New products allow us to focus on taking a competitive position. Also, the first and most important reason for any new product development is to provide new value to the customer. In this sense, the Requirements Engineering (RE) approach plays a vital role within the New Product Development Process (NDP) lifecycle, once the product performance and its acceptability on the market depend on how RE is integrated into the product development. In this way, this paper aims to identify the proposed solutions and trends regarding RE, through a literature review based on studies produced in the last five years. Hence, the existing gaps in the literature about this theme are presented and analyzed. {"title":"Measuring Perceived Service Innovation Typologies in Retail Industry","authors":"S. Manohar, Geeta Kapur","doi":"10.1142/S2424862218500197","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1142/S2424862218500197","url":null,"abstract":"Purpose: The study is undertaken with two objectives, first to develop a scale that can measure service innovation from customer perspective in retail industry, and second to find out how the developed service innovation measurement scale has an effect on predicting customer’s Word-of-Mouth (WOM), followed by testing the mediation effect of corporate reputation between service innovation and WOM. Methodology: The study followed the Integrated Design Approach that included qualitative studies and quantitative studies in exploring and validating the measurement items for service innovation typologies. The codes that represent the typologies of service innovation were elicited through group discussions with selected customers and validated through in-depth interviews with decision maker/managers of retail industry in different parts of South India. The approved codes were validated through two expert opinion surveys and further authenticated through quantitative approaches such as: Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis with two different sets of samples. Finally, the nomological validity of the developed scale was tested on estimating its effect on Corporate Reputation and WOM. Findings: The developed service innovation scale can be adopted by both researchers and managers in measuring service innovation in retail industry. The path analysis results concluded that service innovation has positive impact on corporate reputation and WOM, where the decision makers/managers can note that if service innovations are brought in frequently, it would make the firm reputed in the market and ultimately results in positive WOM from the customers. The mediation analysis result also gives an insight that even if the service innovation is by a non-reputed retailer, it still gets positive WOM. Originality/Value: The study contributes by providing a unique scale to measure service innovation from customer perspective in retail industry, overcoming the existing Goods-Dominant logic. Yet, this is often associated with industrial systems, whose main objectives are to increase productive capacity and reduce costs. This scenario identifies the need for changes in strategy establishment in the organization’s operation mode focusing on sustainable development. Industrial ecosystems, through the symbiotic relationship of industries, aim to achieve sustainability goals. Material flow mapping is essential for the construction of these industrial ecosystems. Hence, the present paper carries out a structured literature review process in order to identify the state of the art and the research opportunities on material flow mapping and industrial ecosystems. For the accomplishment of this research, the methodological procedure called Knowledge Development Process — Constructivist (ProKnow-C) was adopted. The bibliographic portfolio is represented by 35 articles of the research theme. Throughout the bibliometric analysis, a statistical analysis of the articles that compose the portfolio is presented. In the systemic analysis, the main research problems, the means of solving them and the detected opportunities about this research theme are identified. However, some research efforts have been made to apply automatic bibliometric approaches, such as cluster analysis and probabilistic models, to find topics in academic articles in other research areas. The purpose of this study is thus to investigate research topic trends in Engineering Management from 1998 through 2017 using an LDA analysis model. By investigating topics in EM journals, we provide partial but meaningful trends in EM research topics. This paper provides a holistic picture of cybersecurity issues, for instance, fundamental theories, impressive research methods, and influencing factors. More importantly, for the first time an integrative framework was developed by R Project, which potentially text-mines end-users’ behaviors and decision-making processes toward cybersecurity under the circumstance of security breach. A large number of countries listed in-house R&D for science-based innovations as their core development strategy in the next decade. This paper conducts multi-case analysis on four science-based innovations in China as a reference for how a new science-based venture superseded in global market and developed indigenous capability to generate much business value as well as scientific value. The four cases detailed are container inspection system, hot redundant JX-100 DCS, high-performance Dawning supercomputers and Chinese-character laser phototypesetting system. We concluded that the successful commercialization of a nationwide and grand scientific project requires the following: (1) visionary scientists’ solid authority, direct participation, business acumen and a strong sense of patriotism, without intermediaries, are the core for successful science-based innovation and commercialization during knowledge transformation; and (2) the powerful and direct support from the policymakers. Forms of support may vary from financial incentives, policy enforcement and endorsement.
