The seven monofloral bee pollen samples from different locations of Croatia were analysed. A total of 26 fatty acids (from C12 to C24) were identified with a significant difference in their shares in the samples, and nine of them were common to all samples. Assessing bee pollen fatty acids composition through the nutritional quality indicators (high unsaturated fatty acids/saturated fatty acids ratios, high n-3/n-6 and α-linolenic acid/linoleic acid ratios, very low atherogenic and thrombogenic indexes) it is evident that all analysed bee pollen samples are valuable products, which included in the diet can improve the fatty acids balance and could have a positive impact on human health","PeriodicalId":51685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Central European Agriculture","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70973140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Differences were found between varieties and clones in the occurrence of the phenological phases: bud break, véraison, and maturity. In the MPG clones (B41-5, FR 94, MPG 154, MPG 454, and MPG 455), all three phenological phases started earlier, resulting in earlier grape maturity and higher total soluble solids content (TSS) in grapes at harvest compared to the M. giallo clones (R1, VCR100, VCR 102, and VCR 5, BEMK 33). The MPG clones also resulted in higher cluster weight, higher yield per vine, and lower must pH compared to the M. giallo clones. The only exception was the MPG clone R2, which showed more similarities with the M. giallo clones. The wines of the MPG clones showed a tendency toward higher values for alcohol, citronellol, total acids, and total dry matter. In contrast, the wines of the M. giallo clones and the R2 clone of MPG showed higher pH and higher levels of linalool, α-terpineol, geraniol, and nerol. Although R2 is classified as a clone of MPG, our results indicate a strong similarity with the M. giallo clones studied. This study has highlighted the differences in phenological development and grape and wine quality characteristics between MPG and M. giallo clones. Therefore, clone selection can be an important tool for winemakers to develop the desired wine style and adapt to climatic changes.","PeriodicalId":51685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Central European Agriculture","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70974229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The milk industry faces several problems, including a decrease in milk businesses, an increase in milk imports and deepening losses of primary milk producers. Country of origin is considered one of the effective competitive sources of differentiation. The main aim of this study is to identify the role of country of origin in the purchase of milk by consumers from the regions of Central Slovakia using finding preferences of Slovak and foreign brands of milk, knowing brands of purchased milk, and finally examining dependencies between the country of origin and selected demographic variables. The survey results showed a high preference for purchasing Slovak milk brands, and more than half of consumers considered the country of origin an important or very important criterion for purchasing milk. From the point of view of dependencies, age showed to be correlated to the factor of the country of origin, income was found to be statistically significant in determining preferences of Slovak, and foreign brands of milk, and gender, age, education, income and place of living were detected to be good predictors of the demand for individual brands of milk. These findings act as a valuable basis for the creation of value and marketing communication strategies by Slovak milk producers.","PeriodicalId":51685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Central European Agriculture","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135699188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research was conducted in 2020 at three soil types: Terraced soil, Gleysol and Arable soil from Terra Rossa. Soil samples were taken from each location from the arable (0-30 cm) and subarable soil layer (30-50 cm), in 5 replications. The optical density of the alkaline extract of humic substances (E4/E6) was determined spectrophotometrically (VIS). The average content of humic acids (HA) in the arable soil layer decreased as follows: Gleysoil (0.58%) > Arable soil from Terra Rosa (0.53%) > Terraced soil (0.26%). In the subarable soil layer, the highest HA was determined in Gleysoil (0.48%), followed by Arable soil from Terra Rossa (0.40%) and the lowest found in Terraced soil (0.11%). The HA/FA in both soil layers decreased as follows: Arable soil from Terra Rossa (2.28 and 1.49) > Gleysoil (1.11 and 1.09) > Terraced soil (0.39 and 0.34). In the arable soil layer E4/E6 increased from: Arable soil from Terra Rossa (1.28) < Gleysoil (1.31) < Terraced soil (4.69), and in the subarable soil layer: Gleysoil (1.43) < Arable soil from Terra Rossa (1.64) < Terraced soil (4.83). Fulvic acids of aliphatic structure and low molecular mass, which indicate a lower quality of humus, prevailed in Terraced soil with HA/FA < 1 and E4/E6 > 4. In Gleysoil and Arable soil from Terra Rossa, HA/FA > 1 and E4/E6< 4 indicated the prevalence of aromatic, highly polymerized molecular structures, i.e. the quality of humus was better.","PeriodicalId":51685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Central European Agriculture","volume":"278 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135699222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Croatia, pomegranates are grown all along the coast, but with only a few commercial plantations. In 2022, yellowing of leaves, twig blight, tree dieback and fruit rot were observed on cultivars Hicaz and Wonderful in several pomegranate orchards in Neretva Valley. The symptoms resembled those described to be caused by the fungus Coniella granati, a potentially serious pathogen of pomegranate. Samples of twigs, fruits and trunk base fragments were collected from three locations: Metković, Opuzen and Buk Vlaka. The same fungus was regularly isolated from all symptomatic plant parts. Based on cultural, morphological and molecular analyses, the fungus was identified as Coniella granati. Pathogenicity test on pomegranate fruits cv. Wonderful reproduced the same symptoms of fruit rot as seen in the field. To our knowledge, this is the first record of Coniella granati on pomegranate in Croatia.","PeriodicalId":51685,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Central European Agriculture","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135699493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
