Penelitian ini mencoba mengidentifikasi bagaimana siswa-siswa tersebut mengaplikasikan beberapa aspek kesantunan dalam percakapan mereka Dalam lingkungan sekolah. Penelitian ini berfokus pada enam aspek prinsip kesantunan yang dijabarkan dalam pertanyaan, yaitu: Maksim Kebijaksanaan Kesantunan, Maksim Kedermawanan Kesantunan, Maksim Penghargaan Kesantunan, Maksim Kesederhanaan Kesantunan, Maksim Permufakatan Kesantunan, Maksim Kesimpatian Kesantunan. Dalam penelitian ini, teori yang digunakan adalah teori yang dikemukakan oleh Leech, yang dikombinasikan dengan teori dari sumber lain. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui observasi terhadap keseluruhan tuturan siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Pekanbaru. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Perempuan ialah sosok eksotis yang tidak pernah habis daya pikatnya untuk diperbincangkan, lebih-lebih perempuan dengan label tertentu, misalnya perempuan kupu-kupu malam. Dalam analisis-kajiannya peneliti menggunakan teori feminisme sebagai pisau dedah suara kupu-kupu malam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan novel Kelir Slindet sebagai objek kajian. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan studi pustaka dengan teknik deskriptif analitis sebagai teknik analisis data. Hasil temuan penelitian menunjukkan suara kupu-kupu malam, antara lain: (i) berkeluh-kesah karena menjadi tulang punggung keluarga; (ii) menaruh harapan besar terhadap anaknya; (iii) menginginkan anaknya menikah dengan anak orang terpandang; (iv) bersikeras masa depan anaknya harus bahagia; (v) tidak terima ketika anaknya dipandang sama dengannya; (vi) berpesan agar anaknya menikah dengan laki-laki yang tanggung jawab; dan (vii) senantiasa mengharap dan memohon kebahagiaan anaknya. Dengan hadirnya novel Kelir Slindet penulis ingin membuka mata dan mengubah paradigma masyarakat tentang kupu-kupu malam. Hal ini menunjukkan salah satu fungsi karya sastra sebagai alat pengajaran nilai-nilai moral. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing politeness strategies used by Javanese parents in Kenagarian Sungai Duo when giving orders to their children. Employing a mixed-methods approach with qualitative and descriptive statistics, the research uncovered six politeness principles employed in parents' speech: generosity, humility, sympathy, wisdom, praise, and agreement. Notably, parents prioritize generosity (16.66%) and other strategies to soften their commands, creating a highly polite communication environment (97% compliance). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi, peran keraguan, dan dampak terhadap balas dendam dalam drama Hamlet. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis tekstual untuk menganalisis drama Hamlet karya William Shakespeare. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keraguan Hamlet merupakan faktor utama yang menjadi penghambat untuk membalas dendam atas kematian ayahnya. Peran keraguan Hamlet didasari oleh hambatan internal dan eksternal serta sikap rasional Hamlet terhadap hal mistis yang belum tentu sesuai dengan fakta. Juga dampak balas dendam dalam drama Hamlet karya William Shakespeare memiliki implikasi yang signifikan terhadap akhir cerita dengan terbunuhnya hampir seluruh karakter di dalamnya. Afrizal, Malinda Puspita","doi":"10.24036/jbs.v11i3.126109","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24036/jbs.v11i3.126109","url":null,"abstract":"Despite various efforts to enhance reading comprehension, a preliminary study revealed that tenth-grade students at Pekanbaru's State Islamic Senior High School faced challenges comprehending narrative texts. This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine whether Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) instruction could improve students' narrative text comprehension. A total of 202 students were randomly assigned to two groups: a control group receiving traditional instruction and an experimental group receiving CSR instruction. Pre- and post-tests were administered to both groups to assess their comprehension abilities. Data analysis using SPSS version 20 revealed a significant difference between the two groups, indicating that CSR instruction effectively enhanced narrative text comprehension. The effect size, however, was relatively weak (η² = 0.111). These findings suggest that incorporating CSR into English language instruction can positively impact students' comprehension of narrative texts, even though the effect size is relatively small.
