Apparent stress concentration and large deformation are observed in pipe cross-section and are closely related to the magnitude and location of surface load. The increment of surface load and offset displacement have opposite effects on the mechanical behavior of pipes. Additionally, the location of the maximum stress appears to shift from the top or bottom to the left and right sides of the pipe cross-section with the increment of surface load, and the region of peak hoop stress will show a decreasing trend of counterclockwise rotation. Then, based on stress failure criterion, the relationship between the ultimate bearing capacity of the pipe and the offset displacement was determined, which decided by the angle between the ground and the line connecting load center and cross-section center of pipe. Finally, an offset of 0.6m is a value of interest. When the offset between the load position and the pipe exceeds 0.6m, the ultimate bearing capacity of the pipe will increase significantly with the increase of the offset. The results of the above research could provide the reference for the safety evaluation and maintenance strategy of gas polyethylene pipe under the surface load.","PeriodicalId":513862,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology","volume":"20 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141655413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a method is proposed to improve the blast resistance of the ECV by placing it in the water medium. The shock response caused by the underwater explosion in a spherical ECV is studied. The single-layer thin-walled spherical vessel shell submerged in an infinite domain water medium is deduced and simplified as a single-degree-of-freedom elastic vibration system with viscous damping. The underwater explosion shock wave is simplified to an exponential shock loading, and the analytical solutions of the radial shock vibration of the spherical shell are obtained using Duhamel's integrals. Compared with the numerical simulation results, the accuracy of the theoretical model is verified. The study results show that the water medium radiates out vibration energy and plays an important role in eliminating vibration through damping. It's found that the vibration damping ratio can be controlled by adjusting the vessel radius and thickness. So that the vibration of the shell can be controlled within three periods and the impact fatigue can be reduced. In addition, the radiation damping of the water medium greatly reduces the maximum radial displacement of the spherical shell, which significantly improves the blast resistance of the spherical shell.","PeriodicalId":513862,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology","volume":" 14","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141679464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, questions have been raised as to whether the failure mechanisms are the same in miniature and large specimens, something that must be ensured when transferring fracture results obtained in mini-C(T) specimens to larger components. This work, performed within the FRACTESUS project, presents toughness measurements and detailed fractography on both a homogeneously brittle base metal and a relatively ductile, inhomogeneous weld to assess the transferability of fracture data. The fractography shows that brittle fracture initiates within the part of specimen experiencing small scale yielding, so long as the toughness measurement is valid. Similarly, although the precrack front asymmetry appears more marked in smaller specimens, as long as the deviation from planarity is within the ASTM E1921 limits, the asymmetry does not affect the location of the initiation site. For materials showing a variety of fracture modes, the fracture modes observed at the initiation sites are consistent with those observed in larger specimens. Where data are available, the stress and strain conditions at the initiation sites are also found to be consistent in mini-C(T) and larger specimens. These observations support the thesis that toughness measurements made on mini-C(T) specimens reflect the same material characteristics and failure mechanisms as those made on larger specimens.","PeriodicalId":513862,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141712625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study a forward design process considering the sensitivity of the structural parameters of the bellows to the bending stiffness and strength is provided. The sensitivity analysis of structure design parameters, such as convolution height, convolution pitch, ply thickness, and convolution number, on radial compensation capability of U-shaped bellows under internal pressure is conducted. The influences of the geometric parameters on the strength performance of U-shaped bellows under internal pressure and radial displacement loads are also investigated. In order to improve the radial displacement compensation ability and to obtain better pressure resistance performance, a mathematical model is established to describe the performance of bellows and multi-object optimization of bellows is conducted. The results show that the ply thickness has the greatest impact on bending stiffness and strength, and the optimized model has lower stiffness and higher strength compared to the initial model.","PeriodicalId":513862,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology","volume":"21 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141702356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One effective method of transporting hydrogen gas is by injecting it into existing natural gas pipelines. In this research, we focus on the Jingbian compressor station. This station is used for hydrogenation, blending hydrogen with the natural gas flowing through the pipelines. We propose a suitable process for hydrogen blending and design a mixing device to facilitate this process. To evaluate the mixing effect of the blended gas, we conducted numerical simulations to analyze the velocity and concentration distribution along the continuous section of the hydrogen blending pipeline. The results indicated that achieving a hydrogen branch length of 1/2 the diameter of the natural gas main pipe and a hydrogen flow rate of 10% resulted in a nonuniformity of hydrogen concentration at L = 30D of less than 0.05. Furthermore, when the hydrogen concentration was set at 3%, 10%, and 30%, the hydrogen concentration in the cross-section of the pipe gradually approached the expected concentration as the mixed gas flowed. It is worth noting that during transportation of hydrogen-containing natural gas to the outlet, the velocity distribution on the cross-section remained asymmetric, potentially leading to measurement errors. However, the use of a flow conditioner resulted in a reduction in hydrogen nonuniformity and minimized velocity fluctuations, resulting in a small and uniformly distributed flow, which is advantageous for accurate measurement and transportation purposes.","PeriodicalId":513862,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology","volume":"8 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141114448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to further realize the lightweight of the spiral wound heat exchanger, This paper analyzes the influence of the thickness of the heat exchanger tube sheet on its strength based on the ANSYS Workbench software, and proposes the optimization design method of the tube sheet based on the strength safety factor F. which solves the problem that the software cannot take the stress linearization result as the state variable in the optimization calculation. The optimization results show that: The thickness of the tube sheet is reduced by 40%. At this time, the stress strength at the connection between the tube sheet and the head and the center of the tube sheet first exceeds the design bearing capacity, indicating that the strength conditions of the two places are the controlling factor of the thickness. The results are important for the lightweight design of heat exchanger tube plate and material saving.","PeriodicalId":513862,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology","volume":"35 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141117492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uni-axial fatigue tests were conducted under stress and strain-controlled conditions at room temperature. The fatigue life and fatigue limit were reduced by applying the mean stress for the same stress amplitude. The fatigue life exhibited a better correlation with the strain range than the stress amplitude did. Increase in strain range caused by applying the mean stress correlated well with the decrease in the fatigue life. It was assumed that the mean stress effect on the fatigue life was brought about by the change in crack growth rate caused by applying the mean stress. The mean stress enhanced crack mouth opening and accelerated the crack growth. The reduction in the fatigue limit was also brought about by the same effect. It was shown that the effective strain range gave good prediction of fatigue life and fatigue limit with and without the mean stress.","PeriodicalId":513862,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology","volume":"118 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141115719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The C-tube frequency in the pool boiling condition is 0-0.660 Hz. There is no resonance with the first natural frequency of 8.98 Hz. The IRWST temperature field can be divided into slow-heating period, fast-heating period, boiling period. Steam vapor exists in three periods, condensation and collapse of vapor concentrate on horizontal tube. The fast-heating period exists the subcooling degree ΔTsub for the most intense vapor excitation, ΔTsub is in the range of 13~16 °C. In term of thermal flow excitation vibration, the existence of the cross flow with C-plane direction is in the transition period from the slow-heating period to the fast-heating period, which excites the maximum RMS amplitude 0.039 mm and 0.034 mm at the midpoint of upper horizontal tube and vertical tube.
