The structural and optical properties were investigated. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed the presence of the monoclinic phase in all the samples. The Fourier-transform infrared analysis gave the expected chemical combustion results of the final product with few traces of Ca3Al2O6 impurities at low and very high Potential of Hydrogen (pH). The XRD patterns showed the presence of an impurity phase at low pH. This impurity phase was caused by preferential precipitation in the starting mixture due to a lack of homogeneity in the precursor mixture between the urea and metallic ions hence poor combustion. The diffraction angles of the major peaks shifted to lower 2θ for all the samples except for the sample synthesized at pH = 3.4 which shifted to higher 2θ. The crystallite sizes of the as-prepared samples were determined using the Debye-Scherrer equation. It was noted that there was variation in the crystallite sizes with a change in pH. The effect of pH was also observed in the Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) studies. It was also noted that the band gap increased with an increase in pH from 2.9 to 4.5. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) micrographs showed that all samples were agglomerated and had irregular shapes with pores and cracks. The study provides a simple route to synthesize CaAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors with the optimum synthesis pH producing the most crystalline sample for application in lighting devices.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"36 27","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141800139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Puguntano plants have secondary metabolite compounds that have the potential to act as antioxidants. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of Puguntano in vitro and in vivo. Secondary metabolite examination was carried out using thin-layer chromatography. Antioxidant activity was tested using the ABTS and FRAP methods, and a complete analysis of phenols and flavonoids was also carried out. Examination of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in blood serum was carried out in vivo on male white rats induced by 10 mg/kg BW Doxorubicin using the Elisa Reader Kit. Ethanol extract test samples were carried out with dose groups of 400, 200, 100 and 50 mg/kg BW; Quercetin 50 mg/kg BW was used as a positive control. The results showed that the sample had total phenolics of 20.22 ± 0.96 mg GAE/g and total flavonoids of 1.11 ± 0.06 mg QE/g. The IC50 value with ABTS was 419.73 ± 1.61 μg/mL and FRAP 36.77 ± 0.71 μg/mL. SOD and LDH levels increased and showed significant differences with negative controls (p < 0.05). The 400 and 200 mg/kg BW groups significantly increased SOD levels (1.47 ± 0.03 and 1.46 ± 0.02 U/mL) and LDH (8.02 ± 0.01 and 7.90 ± 0.04 ng/mL). Multiple matrices have been formulated, with the SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+matrix being the most extensively studied due to its superior optical and structural properties. In this work, the objective of synthesizing SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+particles was achieved by using a combustion approach. By optimizing the synthesis process and studying the impact of Dy3+concentrations on the structural and optical features, it has proven feasible to regulate the reaction and attain exceptional optical characteristics. The importance of this investigation is in assessing the practical feasibility of using such a material. This study examines a phosphor composed of strontium aluminate (SrAl2O4) that is activated using various amounts of Dy3+(ranging from 0.1 to 0.8 mol % ). The study’s findings of XRD showed that the SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+samples  had a monoclinic phase of   space group P21. Increase in the dopant concentration, the size of the crystallites in SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ samples decreased, as determined by Scherer's formula and the Williamson-Hall plot. The bandgap energy of doped SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ nanoparticles was estimated using a Tauc plot based on data collected from an ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that the bandgap energy decreased from 6.5 to 5.5 eV as the level Dy3+rose from 0.1 to 0.8 mol % . FT-IR spectroscopy revealed a prominent vibrational stretching at 570 cm-1, which is likely due to the Al-O bond, and another stretching at 1049 cm-1, related to the Sr-O bonds of SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ NPs.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"43 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141805791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to assess the efficacy of aqueous (AE), methanolic (ME), ethanolic (EE), ethyl acetate (EAE), and chloroform (CE) crude extracts derived from green chiretta in controlling Meloidogyne enterolobii and M. incognita under laboratory conditions. The results demonstrated significant inhibitory effects of all crude extracts, except for CE, against both nematode species. Notably, AE (10 and 20 mg/mL), ME (20 mg/mL), and EE (20 mg/mL) treatments exhibited maximum inhibition of hatching, leading to a considerable reduction in nematode hatch rates by 87.5 - 96.8 % for M. enterolobii and 88.5 - 96.5 % for M. incognita, compared with distilled water (DW). In terms of second-stage juveniles (J2s) mortality, AE (10 and 20 mg/mL), ME (20 mg/mL), and EAE (20 mg/mL) demonstrated the highest nematicidal activity, resulting in mortality rates of 94.2 - 100 % for M. enterolobii and 92.2 - 99.2 % for M. incognita. Chemotaxis assays revealed a repellent effect of all extracts on both nematode species, except for the ethyl acetate extract (EAE), which attracted M. incognita J2s without affecting M. enterolobii J2s. The observed efficacy was attributed to the higher concentrations of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, phenolics, and terpenoids, in the extracts compared to CE. Based on these in vitro findings, it is suggested that AE, ME, EE, and EAE of green chiretta exhibit significant nematicidal activity against M. enterolobii and M. incognita. Further evaluation under greenhouse and field conditions is warranted to ascertain the practical applicability and effectiveness of these extracts in a real-world agricultural setting.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"60 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141807559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major molecular sensors for hypoxia at the cellular level are hypoxia inducible factor and heme oxygenase. Hypoxia also acts on the vasculature directly conveying its damaging effects through disruption of the control of vascular tone, particularly in the coronary circulation, enhancement of inflammatory responses and activation of coagulation pathways. These effects could be particularly detrimental under pathological conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea and other breathing disorders. Introduction: The effect of conjugate 2-(3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)-6-{[1-(2’-bromo-3’,4’-dimethoxyphenyl)-6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2(1H )-yl]methyl}-3,5,7-trihydroxychroman-4-one (DHQ-11) on hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation was investigated in rat aortic rings using standard organ bath techniques.  Materials and methods: Hypoxia was stimulated by a superfusion of aortic rings with a glucose-free Krebs solution bubbled with 95 % N2/5 %  CO2. The effect of conjugate DHQ-11 was assessed after a 60- min period of hypoxia on aortic rings precontracted with 50 mm KCl or 1µM phenylephrine (PE). The conjugate DHQ-11 significantly attenuated hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation in the endothelium-intact aortic rings precontracted with KCl or PE in a concentration-dependent manner. Results and discussion: This effect of conjugate DHQ-11 was more potent in aortic rings precontracted with PE than those with KCl where it maximally reduced hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation from 44.7 ± 3.7  to 5.4 ± 3.7  and 33.9 ± 3.4 to 10.8 ± 4.2 %, respectively. The removal of the endothelium attenuated the effect of conjugate DHQ-11 on hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation. Similarly, pretreatment of endothelium-intact aortic rings with L-NAME and methylene blue also attenuated the effect of conjugate DHQ-11 on hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation. Furthermore, the blockade of the ATP-sensitive KATP channel with glibenclamide and the calcium-activated large conductance BKCa channel with TEA also significantly attenuated the effect of conjugate DHQ-11 on hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation. Collectively, these results indicated that conjugate DHQ-11 attenuated the hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation suggesting that it alleviated the oxidative damage of vasculature. Conclusions: This effect of conjugate DHQ-11 possible is mediated through several mechanisms including the blockage of the extracellular Ca2+ entry via the voltage-dependent and receptor-operative Ca2+ channels, as well as inhibition of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ release via the inositol triphosphate pathway. In addition, endothelium and NO/sGC/cGMP/PKG pathway, as well as KATP and BKCa channels most likely participate in protection by conjugate DHQ-11 against hypoxia-induced vasorelaxation.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"39 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141809820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this experiment, sweet potato tubers were processed into flour including purple-SPF, yellow-SPF and orange-SPF and applied in breadsticks. The proximate, physical, phytochemical and antioxidant properties of flour and breadsticks were investigated. The carbohydrate, moisture, ash, fat, protein and fiber contents of SPF ranged from 82.19 - 85.21, 4.12 - 5.78, 1.30 - 2.46, 0.32 - 0.86, 4.07 - 4.74 and 3.58 - 5.65 %, respectively. The water activity (aw) of SPF ranged from 0.2277 - 0.2695. The phytochemical analysis showed that purple-SPF and purple-SPF based breadstick products exhibited the highest total phenolic contents (TPC), total flavonoid contents (TFC) and total anthocyanin contents (TAC), while total carotenoid contents (TCC) was observed in both orange-SPF and breadstick made from orange-SPF. In addition, purple-SPF and breadstick produced from purple-SPF had the highest antioxidant activity against ABTS, FRAP, DPPH and metal chelating activity. The X-ray diffraction patterns of SPF samples showed a C-type crystal structure, with a crystallinity ranging from 19.43 - 31.05 %. The scanning electron micrographs of SPF granules revealed that they were mostly round and spherical, with a size range between 5 - 28 µm. The viscosity characteristics of yellow-SPF had the highest peak viscosity (307.97 ± 9.87 RVU), trough viscosity (200.81 ± 10.07 RVU), breakdown (108.42 ± 3.13 RVU), final viscosity (277.75 ± 8.60 RVU) and setback (76.95 ± 4.03 RVU). The physical quality showed breadstick from yellow-SPF had the highest hardness and fracturability with values of 11,537.67 ± 190.58 g and 11,143.33 ± 161.97 g, respectively. These results indicate that sweet potato flour composite breadstick has high phytochemical and antioxidant potential and may be applied in the food industry.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"60 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141806859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a demand for alternative antibacterial agents, such as herbal alternatives, such as Cannabidiol, that are cost-effective, non-toxic and efficient. This study investigates the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) for planktonic cells and the Minimum Biofilm Eradication Concentration (MBEC) for biofilm formation in multidrug- resistance isolates of E. faecalis isolates, particularly focusing cannabidiol activity. E. faecalis isolates with strong biofilm presence, vancomycin, levofloxacin, and daptomycin displayed high MIC and MBEC values. Cannabidiol exhibited a significantly lower MIC (1 μg/mL) for planktonic cells and a low MBEC (2 μg/mL). Moreover, at low concentrations (2 µg/mL), cannabidiol demonstrated notable reductions in biofilm biovolume, bacterial cell viability and colony-forming unit compared to vancomycin, levofloxacin, and daptomycin. The mice treated with cannabidiol (100 mg/kg) exhibited a significant reduction in E. faecalis bacterial load in internal organs and increased the survival. In conclusion, the findings underscore the promising antibiofilm properties of cannabidiol against E. faecalis, indicating its potential as a novel therapeutic agent.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"43 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141807162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nanosilver is known to have antibacterial, antifungal, antidiabetic, and anticancer properties. The most common and easy way to make nanosilver is using the reducing agent sodium borohydride, but this inorganic compound element has high toxicity to the body. Polysaccharides have long been known as anticancer agents with low toxicity and few side effects. Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.), a flowering plant from the Malvaceae family found in tropical and subtropical areas, and the crude polysaccharide extract from the pods has the highest polysaccharide content. This research aims to determine the effect of raw okra polysaccharide extract (ORPE) as a reducing agent for making nanosilver on its ability as an anti-colon cancer cell line HCT 116. Experiments were carried out by modifying and optimizing the manufacture of AgNPs by reducing NaBH4 with ORPE, 16 concentrations each with repetition 3 times. Characteristic tests were carried out using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, Particle Size Analyzer, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, cell viability testing with MTT assay, and evaluation of potential apoptosis and necrosis using Annexin V-PI flow cytometry. PSA test for average particle size. Two groups 1 (AgNP-NaBH4) and 2 (AgNP-ORPE) each had repeated measurements 3 times in 16 concentrations. The mean PSA test and zeta potential value for group 1 = 232.5 ± 25.47 nm / –42.23 ± 1.45 mV and 2 = 779.66 ± 112.45 nm / –23.15 ± 3.65 mV. TEM showed that the size of Group 1 was 50.85 nm (ꭓ = 113.14 nm) and Group 2 was 121.43 nm (ꭓ = 248.52 nm). SEM showed that the morphology of both groups was round in shape (group 2 with slight agglomeration). The absorbance spectrum is formed at a wavelength of 389 nm (group 1) and 281.5 nm (group 2). The IC50 value obtained by group 1 = 76.68 mmol/L with 60.3 % apoptotic cells, 3.74 % necrosis and group 2 = 92.58 mmol/L with 81.4 % apoptotic cells and 4.95 % necrosis. ORPE as a nanosilver-reducing agent has been proven to have the potential to induce cell death and cause changes in mitochondrial membrane permeability in the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"2 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141809459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By contrast, consumption of Job’s tears in Thailand is still high as a functional food. Thus, it needs to be imported in large quantities from other nations. The objectives of this study were to determine the suitability of the different Job’s varieties of Job’s tears in Sa Kaeo province, East of Thailand and then to select a possible variety to evaluate its chemical properties. Then, the data will be used for the conservation and cultivation of Job’s tears in Thailand. Seven varieties of Job’s tears were collected from markets in Thailand from different sources such as Luang Phra Bang province in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Nong Khai, Loei and Chiang Rai provinces in Thailand. Firstly, 7 varieties of Job’s tears were grown and the plant growth characteristics were collected to evaluate their adaptability in Sa Kaeo province, Thailand. Secondly, the plant growth characteristics of 4 varieties of edible Job’s tears were recorded chemical properties such as their chemical composition, total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid compounds (TFC), DPPH radical scavenging assay, ABTS decolorization scavenging effect and potassium ferricyanide reducing power assay. The statistical data were analyzed by using the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine the difference between varieties. The results showed that there are differences between the varieties in plant morphology and chemical properties. Seven Job’s tears plants were classified into 2 groups, an edible and an ornamental group. The Job’s tears seeds of the ornamental group could not be dehulled into kernels. AL1 to AL4 showed a good adaptability in their growth characteristics. AL4 in kernels had the proper CP at 17.78 % (p < 0.001) for use in a ruminant diet. AL2 had high plant height (157 cm), leaf areas (1,714 cm2) and a tiller number (4 - 6 tillers) which were good characteristics for forage utilization. While AL1 and AL4 had high TPC (46.15 and 24.55 mg GAE/g, respectively, p < 0.001) which showed a positive correlation with EE (p < 0.05). The kernels of AL1 and AL4 can be used as functional food.","PeriodicalId":513497,"journal":{"name":"Trends in Sciences","volume":"104 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141821894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
