The microscopic features, physical-mechanical behavior and the microstructure of the prepared mortars were evaluated before and after artificial ageing (by humidity/drying cycles and salt weathering). However, a significant mechanical enhancement was reported for the studied mixes, but the silica fume mix showed a notable failure after salt ageing. The fly ash mix revealed the highest bulk density ratio (1.172 g/cm3) compared to the lime and silica fume mixes. The silica fume mix recorded the lowest percentage of water absorption (35.56%) and apparent porosity (28.11%). Further, the silica fume mix yielded the highest dry compressive strength value (22.19 kg/cm2), with an increase reached 31% when compared to the standard lime mix. The results demonstrated that the fly ash mortar is more compatible for sustainable restoration procedures of historic lime-based structures in respect of the physical-mechanical properties.","PeriodicalId":512221,"journal":{"name":"Periodica Polytechnica Civil Engineering","volume":"163 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140443548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current research and development project, in cooperation with Budapest University of Technology and Economics and KÉSZ Group, bim.GROUP Ltd., Hungary, aims to design a novel demountable steel-concrete composite slab and frame system for buildings. The key component of this construction is the demountable shear connector. In the current research, novel bolted shear connectors with embedded bolts and threaded rods are developed and studied that can fit the applied technology of the industrial partner. One of the leading aspects of this connection is the consideration of bolt hole clearance, since it occurs initial slip and stiffness reduction of the composite beam. In the first phase of the research program, demountable and economical structural details were developed, which can reduce the stiffness reduction with the proper resistance and ductility features. To study the behavior of these shear connections, a push-out experimental program was designed and completed in March and April 2023. It is observed that novel shear connectors have a proper behavior with sufficient resistance and ductility, which is applicable according to the Eurocode 4 standard and fits the objectives of the research and development project. In the paper, the developed structural details and the push-out experimental program are presented with general results and statements besides a detailed evaluation of a specified specimen type.","PeriodicalId":512221,"journal":{"name":"Periodica Polytechnica Civil Engineering","volume":"6 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140445639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among various graphene-based nanomaterials, graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) are cost-effective nanoparticles that possess graphene's key properties. Since limited information is available regarding their influence on the fresh, mechanical, non-destructive, and self-healing behavior of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC), this research focuses on GNP inclusion on these properties of ECC in a comprehensive way. In this research, the changes in material properties of ECC were monitored with several mechanical and nondestructive test methods. According to the results, GNP inclusion significantly enhanced flexural behavior and also promoted self-healing of ECC, with preloaded specimens exhibiting substantial or complete crack closure and similar performance to virgin specimens. Non-destructive tests and microstructural analyses also confirmed the promoting effects of GNP. A noticeable increase was observed in compressive strength when GNP was included. In conclusion, this study provides compelling evidence about the positive impact of GNP inclusion on improving the properties of ECC. The findings demonstrate the potential of GNPs to enhance the performance of cementitious materials and offer valuable insights for future research and practical applications.","PeriodicalId":512221,"journal":{"name":"Periodica Polytechnica Civil Engineering","volume":"576 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140446843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
