The study was conducted to understand whether the Wh-Questions used in the textbook emphasized high-level thinking and cognitive skills development (HOTS). The research question of this study was: To what extent do the Wh-Questions in the textbook “Just Imagine” emphasize higher order thinking skills? Content Analysis was performed. Wh-Questions were chosen as the unit of analysis for this research. Percentages and frequencies of each cognition level were calculated for each book unit separately. The results showed that 167 out of the 219 questions emphasized cognition levels that develop Low-Order Thinking Skills, while only 52 questions emphasized the three levels that use High-Order Thinking Skills. Findings of this research recommended that the textbook authors should further develop the textbook’s content, and maintain a balance between the lower-order and higher-order questions. Evaluating and choosing a good textbook that fits the goals of the curriculum is also recommended.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"85 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140983187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, university coursework is often viewed as “the theory,” with classroom teaching experiences in PreK-12 settings being considered “the practice.” One Teacher Preparation Program re-designed their program to address this divide and better prepare pre-service teachers (PSTs) for their futures as educators. To do this, the re-designed program included more authentic classroom experiences through the implementation of a year-long residency model and the creation of a residency-specific course. This article details how an English methods course and residency course were designed to support PSTs as they made connections to their residency experiences. In this way, PSTs majoring in secondary English Language Arts (ELA) education were immersed within middle and secondary ELA classrooms as residents, while simultaneously engaging in rigorous university coursework, which sought to promote educational theory and practice. Specific instructional approaches and assignments are shared, along with reflections on what was learned.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"24 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141004292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also considers student perception of online learning compared to face-to-face learning, and whether or not students can learn as much online as in person. Further, students can, in some cases, be more satisfied with online learning. Student success levels and satisfaction are, however, related to the level of engagement they experience and the cultural adaptability of the course work, as it relates to the online teaching methods used and the teacher’s approach to online learning. Thus, the study concludes that distance learning is an appropriate approach for students but more research is needed regarding best practices for collaboration, content delivery, and adaptability.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"25 38","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141004936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interviews with semi-structured questions of intrinsic and extrinsic nature through five-Likert scale were conducted in 140 undergraduate students who have been pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Zhengzhou Normal University in China. Descriptive analysis and factor component analysis (FCA) used for obtaining the results. The intrinsic and extrinsic nature of findings demonstrate that English considerably impacts their academic progress and performance. Furthermore, the findings show that students are eager to accept, support, and encourage their friends to adapt English to generate new knowledge and information. The findings also imply that local English instructors should be paid well and have a strong social position as teaching faculty. The findings suggest that curriculum improvement, content adjustment, and frequent use of English in exploration approaches to instruction, with the ultimate objective of opening up new avenues of knowledge, may significantly improve English effectiveness in student performance and career development.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"6 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141004466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We employ a large sample of aggregated CPA exam passage rate data from 12 Texas public universities across a ten-year sample period to analyze CPA exam passage rates. We then investigate the interactions across sample years, number of examinees, degree types, and exam sections. Our findings provide curriculum developers and schedulers with considerable insights into the delegation of teaching responsibilities owed to examinees and employers who increasingly expect the rewards of prompt CPA certification.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"4 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141004059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 210 faculty members in Taiwan participated in this study. The proposed Faculty Perspectives on Special Education Scale (FPSES), a 32-item scale, includes three subscales: Special Education Knowledge (SEK), Attitudes Towards Students (ATS), and Provision of Services (POS). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, item analysis, correlation analysis, t tests, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results showed that FPSES has satisfactory internal consistency reliability, with Cronbach’s α ranging from .93 to .96 and test-retest reliabilities, with coefficient ranging from .88 to .96. The FPSES also exhibited favorable content validity. Furthermore, the CFA confirmed a good fit between the proposed model and the sample data, thereby ensuring the construct validity. In summary, FPSES is a favorable assessment tool with good psychometric properties, which provides insights into faculty perspectives, attitudes, and practices in the provision of special education services for university students with disabilities.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"20 14","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141005977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the study, teachers’ prior experience instructing online courses, applications’ practicality in course delivery, learner interactions, the quality and timeliness of learner-teacher interactions, consistency of course design across courses, and session duration are all crucial for learners’ satisfaction with online instruction. The convenience, availability of technical support, and flexibility of online courses compared to face-to-face courses a group of students were surveyed after completing online training courses in various specializations to evaluate the quality of the courses, which were selected from reputable and well-known sites in the field of providing online training courses. The results, according to students’ feedback, showed that the courses that attracted students’ interest were those that took into account the student’s needs in terms of interaction with professors and colleagues, course content, and duration, especially if there was a practical aspect. The findings also indicate the need to develop a coherent course structure so that students’ needs and attractions are considered before starting the course.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"10 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141004781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Focused on English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students, 30 participants from Universitas Islam Negeri Intan Lampung engaged in a clustered class setting. Utilizing a Likert-Scale questionnaire and SPSS version 26 for analysis, the research assessed students' perceptions of electronic feedback provided by instructors and peers. Findings indicate that while a majority of students received feedback on grammar, organization, and vocabulary, there's a notable gap in self-feedback, with many feeling uncertain about error identification. While 75% acknowledge the instructor's role in offering electronic feedback, 69% stress the importance of peer feedback. Interestingly, 75% deem self-feedback less impactful, citing uncertainty in error identification. These insights underscore the significance of targeted training to enhance English writing proficiency across diverse socio-cultural backgrounds.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"21 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141005814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research conducted a synthesis of previous scientific studies on the use of the TBL teaching model in Chinese undergraduate education to explore the impact of two main objectives: the TBL teaching model on Chinese undergraduate students’ achievement and sustainability skills and using systematic Evaluation and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method to searched and screened 30 articles using China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and google scholar, which was published from 2013 to 2023. The results of this study show that TBL teaching model is effective in improving Chinese undergraduate students’ achievement, problem-solving skills and teamwork skills. Therefore, TBL teaching model can be implemented in Chinese undergraduate education. Still, the use of TBL teaching model is narrow due to its late start in China. More rigorous methodology and mixed-methods design of the study are needed to improve the transferability of the results.","PeriodicalId":512130,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice","volume":"6 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141005361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
