It is known for the famous Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Kalamata olive oil produced mainly from the Koroneiki olive variety. The PDO Kalamata olive oil, established by Council regulation (EC) No 510/2006, owes its quality and special characteristics to the geographical environment, olive tree variety, and human factor. The PDO Kalamata olive oil is produced exclusively in the regional unit of Messenia, being the main profit of local farmers. However, soil chemical composition, microclimates, and agronomic factors are changed within the Messenia spatial area leading to differentiation of PDO Kalamata olive oil characteristic. In this paper, we use statistical machine learning algorithms to determine the geographical origin of Kalamata olive oil at PDO level based on synchronous excitation−emission fluorescence spectroscopy of olive oils. Evaluations of the statistical models are promising for differentiating the origin of PDO Kalamata olive oil with high values of prediction accuracy thus enabling companies that process and bottle kalamata olive oil to choose olive oil from a specific region of Messenia that fulfills certain characteristics. Concretely, the current research effort focuses on a specific olive oil variety within a limited geographic region. Intuitively, future research should also focus on validation of the proposed methodology to other olive oil varieties and production areas.","PeriodicalId":510669,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT","volume":"11 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140982035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also causes bad effects on the environment, such as the carbon footprint associated with cement production and the waste management of emission waste like fly ash in thermal power plants. Counteracting and stabilizing the adverse environmental consequences, this study adopts an experimental approach to utilize thermal power plant waste Class C Fly ash (pozzolanic), locally available red soil, and stone dust, along with geopolymer precursors, to manufacture bricks, which are the most demanding material for infill masonry work. The mechanical, durability, and microstructural characterization of the bricks were studied for various mix proportions, along with various concentrations of geopolymer precursors, cured at elevated temperatures and ambient curing. An optimum methodology was obtained to develop a red soil-based geopolymer brick.","PeriodicalId":510669,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT","volume":"37 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141021754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims to show the political communication of regional heads in North Sumatra Province in preparing the Draft Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget in collaboration with the Regional House of Representatives. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method combined with a literature study approach. Data were collected from literature studies through journals, online media, and document reports to identify cases and problems. Data were analyzed to reduce, present, and conclude. The research findings show that executive and legislative political communication in North Sumatra Province has led to the possibility of conflict in the preparation of regional revenue and expenditure budgets. This condition is motivated by differences in perceptions caused by the need for more confidence and trust in the transparency of all work plans and programs. Actors in the Legislature and Executive tend to adhere to widely held interpretations of the public interest. It is crucial to eliminate sectoral egos and be mutually helpful to each actor to build a political communication network between the Executive and Legislature that does not perceive hierarchical networks. Moreover, prioritizing work awareness is essential in developing a shared commitment to regional development.","PeriodicalId":510669,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT","volume":"77 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140239699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To identify the most important financing risks faced by these farmers when searching for financial resources, a study was conducted to analyze the financing risks related to their activity. The study used descriptive analysis and multiple regression analysis techniques to determine the main factors influencing the financing risks of these farmers. The study found that farmers perceived low profits, excessive debt, and high-interest rates as critical financing risks. However, the multifactorial analysis revealed that low earnings were statistically insignificant, while excessive debt and high interest rates were statistically significant. Regression analysis showed a strong correlation between financial risk, excessive debt, and high interest rates at 86%. The main objective of the study was to make farmers aware of the importance of financial risks.","PeriodicalId":510669,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT","volume":"19 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140240649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advances in the building industry indicate a shift towards energy efficiency with minimal consumption. The authors aim to find a sustainable solution for implementation in the Republic of Moldova. To achieve this, they perform energy efficiency calculations for the envelope of a residential building that utilizes locally available limestone blocks, sourced from 44 quarries across the territory. Technical abbreviations will be defined upon their first use. For thermal insulation, the authors suggest using two layers of masonry enclosing 6 cm thick polyurethane foam. The purpose of this study is to highlight the importance of sustainability in the construction of new residential buildings in the Republic of Moldova. This is particularly relevant in the absence of a comprehensive regulatory framework on energy efficiency for residential buildings.","PeriodicalId":510669,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT","volume":"103 38","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139614414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The government is unable to handle around 36% of waste problems. These problems demand serious public attention. The concrete form of the public’s serious concern is the emergence of ethical environmental behavior in waste management. This research aims to explore the impact of religious observance activities on waste management and its comparison with the behavior of the public. This research used a sociological descriptive qualitative approach with an ethnographic method. This research compared the waste management behaviors of two respondent groups. The first group consists of women who have received mentoring and training in waste management with economic value. The comparison group is women who are members of the Jamaah Ummahat Islamic organization of Qur’an recitation in a mosque. The results show that there is consistency and continuity in forming an understanding of environmental ethics in their teachings that is capable of changing environmentally ethical behavior in waste management. The religious sermon material is delivered with effective communication that is easily understood by the Jamaah Ummahat members.","PeriodicalId":510669,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT","volume":" 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139621496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result of the recent energy crisis, the operational expenditures associated with these demands have markedly risen. In line with EU Energy Policies, one of the future goals is the transition towards energy-wise self-sufficient buildings powered by renewable energy sources (RES). Nowadays, a combination of contemporary energy management systems, electricity storage and RES are proposed to achieve nearly zero emission-producing energy consumption in buildings. This paper examines the energy consumption patterns of a hotel situated on the Mediterranean, in order to investigate the potential of RES-induced independence and forecast future expansion prospects. An algorithm has been introduced to both optimize and enhance the self-sufficiency of the hotel under consideration. The proposed algorithm successfully enhances the hotel's energy self-sufficiency, achieving a remarkable 99% rate through the dimensions of PV power and corresponding battery capacity for all years under examination, yielding the corresponding financial and environmental conclusions.","PeriodicalId":510669,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT","volume":"27 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139529290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
