The study was conducted for four years over a seasonal period of spring 2019 (February-March) to fall 2022 (September to October). For the exploration of maximum diversity at both sites, quadrats of 10 × 10 m were placed randomly. Ten soil, twelve anthropogenic, seven environmental and eight seasonal variables were used to assess their relationship with vegetation of both sites during four years of study. For statistical analysis, data was processed in the SPSS for LSD test and R Studio for Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) and heat map preparation. A total of 84 plant species, belonging to 62 genera and 26 families, were identified in the Derawar region. Herbaceous plants comprised the majority, with 42 species, followed by grasses (22 species), shrubs (12 species), trees (7 species), and one sedge species. The protected site exhibited higher species diversity, with 76 species from 23 families, compared to the unprotected site, which had 49 species from 15 families. Species richness, Simpson index, and Shannon index showed significant declines in diversity from the protected to the unprotected site.","PeriodicalId":510399,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"38 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140743486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article is more descriptive in nature than analytical and has the objective of bringing out the interrelationships among urbanization, urban slums, suburban sprawls, and environmental sustainability. It begins by examining the concepts of urbanization, urban slums, suburban sprawl, safe cities, resilient cities, and sustainable cities. It then goes on to look at the causes and consequences of urban slums and suburban sprawl. Findings from the study revealed that slums and suburban sprawls are cogs in the wheel of safe, resilient, and sustainable cities. Therefore, the study recommends efficient urban management, the implementation of urban master plans, development control, and citizen participation in urban planning and management. Above all, for the achievement of safe, resilient, and sustainable cities, this study places more emphasis on the use of modern techniques of environmental monitoring and management.","PeriodicalId":510399,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"19 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140741447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, no study has specifically examined the above effect from the point of view of policy spillover effects among customers and suppliers. Based on this, we introduce the perspective of the supply chain spillover effect and collect annual data from Chinese-listed firms between 2008 and 2020. Using the differences-in-differences (DID) model, we have tested the relationship between the low-carbon city pilot policy in the location of the largest customer and affiliated suppliers’ innovation behavior. Our findings indicate that implementing the low-carbon city pilot policy in the location of the largest customer incentivizes suppliers to invest in innovation. Additionally, our research finds that financing constraints and market monopoly power moderate the supply chain innovation spillover. Interestingly, the impact of the policy is more pronounced among suppliers in high-carbon and low-tech sectors as well as those in the eastern region.","PeriodicalId":510399,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"144 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140750271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, exploring the relationship between digital economy and carbon emissions in the sports industry holds great significance. Based on 2010-2021 panel data covering 30 provinces in China, the digital economy development level (DEL) and carbon emissions of the sports industry (CESI) are measured. Then, a two-way fixed effect model, threshold effect model and spatial Durbin model are used to examine the impact of the digital economy on the carbon emissions of the sports industry. The results show the following: (1) After multiple tests, the development of the digital economy has a significant inhibitory effect on the CESI; in other words, the development of the digital economy can drive the low-carbon development of the sports industry. (2) The influence of the development of the digital economy on the CESI has a nonlinear feature of an increasing marginal effect and a spatial spillover effect. (3) From the perspective of regional heterogeneity, the development dividend of the digital economy in the developed eastern region of China is greater than that in the less developed central and western regions, having a more significant impact on the low-carbon development of the sports industry. Therefore, it is necessary for China to speed up the construction of digital infrastructure, build an integrated layout of digital infrastructure, give full play to the radiating role of the digital economy, and implement differentiated development paths based on regional comparative advantages.","PeriodicalId":510399,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140747921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study aimed at recommending the most suitable probability distribution and efficient method of parameter estimation for each gauging site. Generalized extreme value, generalized logistic, Gumbel, generalized Pareto, and reverse Gumbel probability models are fitted to the annual peak flow/discharge. For each gauging site, the parameters of these distributions are estimated through L-moments, maximum likelihood, least squares, weighted least squares, and relative least squares methods. For each site, the probability models with a particular estimation method are ranked on the basis of goodness-of-tests and accuracy measures, and then the most suitable pair of model and estimation method is identified through a total rank. The results indicate that the generalized Pareto distribution is the best fit for Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad, and Punjnad, while the generalized extreme value distribution is the most suited for the Trimmu gauging site. As far as the estimation method is concerned, least squares and weighted least squares methods are more accurate for most of the gauging sites. Finally, for each gauging site, the best-suited probability model is used to estimate the annual peak flow and to construct associated confidence intervals for different return years.","PeriodicalId":510399,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"194 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140746587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We take Anhui Shengjin Lake National Nature Reserve (SJLNNR) as a case study to examine policy-driven changes in ecosystem services and their trade-offs. We find that (1) policy implementation significantly increased the area of wetlands and forests while decreasing the area of cropland and impervious land. Ideally, the area of wetlands and forests could be increased by ~10200 hm 2 . (2) Habitat quality (HQ) and water conservation (WC) are enhanced, with the highest enhancement of 13.09% and 28.18%, respectively. Carbon storage (CS) and food production (FP) showed opposite trends across scenarios. (3) CS demonstrates trade-offs with other ESs, while the remaining ESs displayed varying degrees of synergistic relationships. Nonetheless, it should be noted that transforming extensive farmland and impervious land into diverse land-use types might not improve the synergies relationship of ESs. Additionally, the full protection scenario (FPS) demonstrated greater advantages in terms of HQ, WC, and CS.","PeriodicalId":510399,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"485 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140749456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was comprised of 3 seed rates; 100 kg h -1 (S1), 130 kg h -1 (S2), 160 kg h -1 (S3), and 3 herbicide dosages (100% recommended dose of Mesosulfuron-methyl + Iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium (H1), 75% of the dose (H2), and 75% dose + adjuvant (H3). The results revealed that average weed density, fresh weight, and dry weight were lower in seed rate 160 kg h -1 by 33.37%, 31.52%, and 28.78% compared to 100 kg h -1 before herbicide application, respectively. After 30 days of herbicide application, weed density, fresh weight, and dry weight were 42.16%, 34.74%, and 40.91% less in treatment with the combination of S3H3 compared with S1H2. Yield and yield parameters were significantly affected by the different seed rates and herbicide dosages. 1000-grain weight, spikelets, and grains/spike were greater in the lower seed rate (100 kg h -1 ) with H3, while the grain yield, biological yield, and harvest index were 26.05%, 21.81%, and 5.39% higher in the treatment S3H3 as compared with S1H2. Assess the impact of community-led initiatives on grid emission factors. In this study, qualitative interviews were conducted with community members residing in regions characterized by substantial carbon emissions or high energy consumption. These interviews delved into their levels of awareness, attitudes, and willingness to engage in local carbon reduction initiatives through the utilization of carbon dioxide. Furthermore, community workshops and focus group discussions were organized to facilitate community participation, foster dialogue about potential carbon utilization projects and enabling the collection of their ideas and concerns. Additionally, in-depth case studies were undertaken by selecting specific communities (Astana and Almaty), allowing for a comprehensive examination of ongoing local initiatives related to carbon utilization. These initiatives encompassed a wide array of community-led projects, collaborations with local industries, and grassroots innovations, providing valuable insights into community-driven solutions for carbon reduction. The survey results revealed that respondents strongly agree that communities face significant challenges in implementing carbon reduction initiatives, with concerns about funding and pessimism about the opportunities for success.
