This study examines the non-linear dynamic behavior of a rectangular single-layered BP (SLBP) with an attached mass through the utilization of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and a nonlinear orthotropic plate model (NOPM) with a concentrated mass. The results indicate that significant deformation of an SLBP with an attached mass necessitates consideration of geometric nonlinearity, although the attached mass does not affect the deformation. Additionally, this paper discusses the impact of the attachment mass and the amplitude of harmonic force on the non-linear forced vibration of the SLBP. It is observed that as the attachment mass increases, the nonlinear vibration resonance frequency decreases, while the peak amplitude increases. Furthermore, the thermal nonlinear vibration of SLBP with an attached mass has been investigated, revealing that an increase in the attached mass leads to a decrease in the nonlinear vibration frequency but an increase in the amplitude of the nonlinear vibration of SLBP with an attached mass. Overall, comparison with MD simulation results, this investigation suggests that NOPM with a concentrated mass effectively describes the nonlinear vibration behavior of an SLBP with an attached mass, providing theoretical support for designing such devices to detect attached masses.","PeriodicalId":510378,"journal":{"name":"Materials Research Express","volume":"52 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141346880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Concurrently, extensive research has been conducted to assess the behavior of composite materials, focusing on various parameters such as fiber type, lamination order, matrix type, and the inclusion of filler materials. In this study, we investigated the mechanical properties of flax (F)/ramie (R) epoxy hybrid composites, specifically exploring the effects of different lamination sequences. Four distinct lamination sequences were chosen: FFRR, FRFR, FRRF, and RFFR. The composites were fabricated using compression molding techniques, adhering to ASTM standards for the evaluation of mechanical properties including tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength, and interlaminar shear strength. Among the laminate sequences studied, FRFR exhibited the lowest void content at 4.76%, while RFFR composites showed the highest void content at 16.67%. The most favorable results were observed with FRFR composites, boasting a tensile strength of 77.06 MPa, impact strength of 13.36 kJ/m2, and interlaminar shear strength of 8.13 MPa. Notably, the FFRR composite exhibited the highest flexural strength at 118.09 MPa. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was conducted to investigate surface morphology and identify reasons for failure.","PeriodicalId":510378,"journal":{"name":"Materials Research Express","volume":"46 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141345252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two locations along the horizontal deposition direction of the wall structure and two orientations of deposition (horizontal and vertical) of 5356 were investigated for microstructure and mechanical characteristics. Mechanical characteristics were tested at two wall locations using fractography, tensile testing, and microhardness testing. A microstructure analysis reveals a mixture of columnar grain structure and coarser intermetallics in the remelting zone, with finer granular structure in the central region. The horizontal direction of 5356 deposition exhibited a highest elongation and tensile strength of 4.4 % and 249 MPa than the vertical direction. For the horizontal and vertical orientations, the average microhardness values were determined to be 80 HV and 72 HV, respectively. Fracture analysis of the tensile samples showed that the deposited metal had a ductile mode of failure with a predominance of dimples with tearing shape. This research offers significant insights into wall structure fabrication and mechanical feature analysis.","PeriodicalId":510378,"journal":{"name":"Materials Research Express","volume":"42 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141345074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The surface morphology of the titanium substrate and anode after acid etching was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the electrochemical performance of the anode was determined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and tafel plots. SEM observations showed that H2C2O4 had the best etching effect on the titanium substrate, as the scratches were uniform, and the surface cracks of the prepared anode reached 4-6 µm; Analysis of the CV curves revealed that the Ti/RuO2-TiO2 anode prepared by H2C2O4 etching had the highest surface charge capacity (172 mC) compared to the anodes prepared by other acid etchings, while the LSV curves showed that the Ti/RuO2-TiO2 anode after H2C2O4 etching had the lowest polarization potential (1.232 V). Tafel curve analysis revealed that the corrosion potential of the Ti anode prepared by H2C2O4 etching was 0.203 V, and the self-corrosion current density was -5.11 A/cm2, indicating that the corrosion resistance of the Ti anode prepared by H2C2O4 treatment is the weakest. This study aimed to reduce the effects of contaminated soil and wastewater irrigation on rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) plants by using biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) produced by the ginger (Zingiber officinale) plant extract. The AgNPs were characterized using Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR). The experimental design involved three distinct groups of plants: one group was irrigated with regular tap water, another group was rooted in soil contaminated by sewage-wastewater and irrigated with processed wastewater, and the final group consisted of plants grown in wastewater-contaminated soil, irrigated with processed wastewater, and sprayed with 200 mM L-1 AgNPs. The study also examined the impact of different treatments on gene expression and secondary metabolite levels in rosemary plants. According to HPLC investigations, nineteen phenol compounds and flavonoids were identified in a methanolic extract of rosemary that was grown in contaminated soil, irrigated with wastewater, and sprayed with AgNPs. Plants treated with wastewater and nanoparticles produced quantities of secondary compounds, including resvertol, vanillic acid, and gallic acid with 1.11, 0.15, and 0.01 mg g-1 respectively, which are all regarded as significant antioxidants employed in the pharmaceutical industry. Hexokinase synthase (HK), geranyl diphosphate synthase (GPPS), and linalool synthase (LS) coding genes were found to have highly expressed expressions when plants grown in contaminated soil, wastewater-irrigated plants, and nanoparticle-sprayed plants, respectively, at a 23.2- and 5.54-fold level, where the HK gene was 8.7 times more strongly expressed. Conversely, plants grown in contaminated soil and irrigated with treated wastewater showed downregulation of these genes. Conclusively, using silver nanoparticles significantly reduced the influence of wastewater pollution on secondary metabolites in rosemary plants, which was increased by the gene expression results and was completely consistent with HPLC analysis.","PeriodicalId":510378,"journal":{"name":"Materials Research Express","volume":"87 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141352855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The CoCl2 and NiCl2 metallic salt solutions were mixed in volume ratios of 1- 1, 1-2 and 2-1 and reduced with NaBH4 and St. John’s Wort aqueous extract, respectively. The obtained Co-Ni based complex nanoalloys were analyzed by Ultraviolet-visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), X-Ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Dynamic Light Scattering Particle Size Analyzer (DLS). The effect of CoNiNAs was investigated based on the amount used in mortar, flexural and compressive strengths of mortar, setting time retarder property, and carbonation depth measurements of mortars and nanoalloy form based on whether solid(chemical synthesise) or liquid(green synthesise). The results showed that the chemical synthesized CoNiNAs were amorphous metal-metaloxide complex structures with small spherical particles, and low dispersity index, while green synthesized complex were more crystalline structure and smaller sizes. The mortar properties were affected by Co and Ni synthesis ratios and addition amounts. The results indicated that the incorporation of CoNiNAs led to an increase in setting times of mortar. Furthermore, the \"CN\" 2% sample exhibited the highest compression (49.10±1.19 MPa) and flexural (8.19±0.20 MPa) strengths. In addition, the \"CN2\" 1% sample exhibited the lowest carbonation depth (2.95±0.35 mm) compare to other samples. Overall, mortars with CoNi- NAs additives may be used at high temperature environment, and long shipment times due to setting time retarder effect and without losing necessary physical properties.","PeriodicalId":510378,"journal":{"name":"Materials Research Express","volume":"19 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141354351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rubber is often manufactured in wet form and must be dried to remove excess moisture and improve its mechanical properties. There are several methods for drying rubber, including vacuum drying, air drying, freeze drying and microwave drying. Microwave drying is a relatively new and promising method for drying rubber. This technology uses electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range to generate heat in the material, causing the moisture to evaporate. Microwave drying offers several advantages over traditional drying methods, including faster drying times, lower energy consumption and improved product quality. The rubber drying process is a complex process that consists of several factors such as humidity, temperature and drying time. Microwave drying is no exception and requires careful optimization of the process parameters to achieve optimal drying results. Research is currently underway to study the effects of microwave drying on rubber properties, including the physical, mechanical, chemical and thermal properties of the material. In this context, the article aims to provide an overview of the rubber drying process, with a particular focus on microwave drying. The article reviews the literature on the use of microwave drying for rubber and highlights the advantages and limitations of this method. The post also discusses the factors affecting the microwave drying process and their impact on the quality of the dried rubber. Finally, the paper identifies the gaps in our understanding of microwave drying of rubber and suggests potential areas for future research.","PeriodicalId":510378,"journal":{"name":"Materials Research Express","volume":"113 38","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141362855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
