The comorbidities that affect their sufferers lead to a reduction in daily activities, a worsening of quality of life and an increase in mortality as a result of illnesses and complications of the disease. Basic health units, together with their health promotion programs and prevention strategies, have been adapting protocols for comprehensive care for patients with diabetes mellitus, guiding them towards a healthier lifestyle. This work showed the benefits of the complementary use of phytotherapy, specifically Cissus sicyoides in patients with diabetes mellitus, demonstrating hypoglycemic effects in 50% of patients subjected to the use of the dry extract. Adjunct to the treatment of diabetes mellitus II there is a need to implement strategies that reinforce the use of herbal therapies and research needs to be carried out to this end.","PeriodicalId":510222,"journal":{"name":"International Seven Journal of Health Research","volume":"103 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140985948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Comorbidities, physical frailty and increased risk of postoperative complications are important aspects to be considered. Methods: Systematic reviews of the literature and analyzes of clinical and experimental studies that addressed the management of anesthesia in elderly patients were carried out. Articles published in English, Spanish and Portuguese were selected. The keywords used were \"anesthesia in the elderly\", \"preoperative assessment\", \"anesthetic techniques\", \"intraoperative monitoring\", \"postoperative pain control\" and \"prevention of complications\". Results: Comprehensive and individualized preoperative assessment was identified as crucial for identifying and treating comorbidities and physical frailty in elderly patients. The choice of the appropriate anesthetic technique depends on the type of surgery and the patient's clinical conditions. Careful monitoring during anesthesia, including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygenation and capnography, is essential to detect and intervene early on hemodynamic and respiratory changes. Postoperative pain control in the elderly requires an individualized approach, with appropriate use of analgesics and regional blocks. Complication prevention strategies, such as optimizing hydration, glycemic control, early mobilization and appropriate use of medications, are essential to reduce the risk of delirium, infection and cognitive dysfunction. Conclusion: Anesthesia management in elderly patients requires an individualized and comprehensive approach, taking into account physiological changes related to aging and associated comorbidities. Careful preoperative assessment, appropriate choice of anesthetic technique, strict intraoperative monitoring, postoperative pain control and prevention of complications are essential to ensure a safe perioperative period and successful recovery in the elderly. Using a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory methodology, the aim was to educate the population of the Vila Salete Basic Health Unit (BHU) in the municipality of Fraiburgo, SC, about the importance of polio vaccination, as well as the consequences of the disease, given that vaccination coverage at the BHU and in the municipality is below the parameters set by the Ministry of Health (MoH). The extension activities to achieve this goal included guidance at the aforementioned UBS, involving family members who accompanied the children to appointments, on Wednesdays during October 2022, and reinforcing the information through an information folder at the 1st MED DAY, in Fraiburgo, on November 5, 2022. The conclusion is that the population is unaware of the seriousness of this disease, and several diseases that used to hit the population very aggressively can now be considered eradicated, such as polio if we achieve good vaccination coverage.","PeriodicalId":510222,"journal":{"name":"International Seven Journal of Health Research","volume":"10 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140083816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
