In agriculture, the hands were the most affected parts of the body which sustained injury. Successful suturing of a finger initially disqualified from replantation is rare. The case is presented of a 55-year-old patient who had a non-work-related finger amputation. In a surgical centre not belonging to the reference ones in plastic surgery in Poland, a doctor with six months of surgical experience performed the replantation without vascular reconstruction (the amputated distal part of the finger served as a biological dressing). Despite the lack of vascular reconstruction and unfavourable prognosis, the amputated fragment of the finger maintained a partial blood supply. Subsequent flap surgery in the plastic surgery department, and rehabilitation of the patient due to finger contracture, led to functional recovery of the finger.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":"51 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139169423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Escherichia coli is one of the most common bacteria isolated from urine samples collected from dogs and cats with urinary tract infection (UTI). Uncomplicated UTIs in dogs and cats can be treated with short courses of first-line antimicrobial drugs, e.g. amoxicillin, amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, or trimethoprim/sulfonamide. Recurrent or complicated UTIs often require long-term treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics. However, the choice of drug should be based on antimicrobial susceptibility. Materials and method. Between March – September 2022, E. coli isolates cultured from the urine of 66 dogs and 41 cats with UTI symptoms were tested for antimicrobial resistance by using Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Antimicrobial susceptibility was tested for ampicillin, ampicillin/sulbactam, cefazolin, cefuroxime, aztreonam, gentamycin, amikacin, colistin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, chloramphenicol and tetracycline. Results. The highest prevalence of resistance was documented for ampicillin (68% in dogs, 100% in cats) and ampicillin with sulbactam (59% in dogs, 54% in cats). The most common antimicrobial resistance patterns of E. coli were ampicillin alone (12 isolates, 29.3% in cats) and beta-lactams, including aztreonam (14 isolates, 21.2% in dogs). Conclusions. High resistance to aztreonam (61% and 32% of isolates from dogs and cats, respectively), other beta-lactams, and fluoroquinolones should cause be alarm due to zoonotic potential and cross-transmission of antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms between animals and humans.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":"23 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138954833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The occurrence of bacteria of the genus Legionella sp. in hot water supply systems in buildings is a real threat to human health, especially for patients in hospitals and residents of nursing homes. The aim of the study was determination of the degree of colonization of hot water systems in hospitals and nursing homes in the Świętokrzyskie Province in south-east Poland. Materials and method. Between 2014 – 2018, samples were collected from hot water systems in 30 hospitals and 32 nursing homes in order to determine the degree of contamination. 631 samples collected of the bacteria Legionella sp were analyzed. Results . Excessive contamination (≥ 100CFU/100 ml) with the bacteria Legionella sp. was detected in 12.12% (n=71) of samples. Contamination was significantly more frequently detected in samples from hot water systems in nursing homes, compared to hospitals (16.48% vs. 10.37%). Above-standard contamination of hot water systems with Legionella sp. bacteria occurred in 34.43% of the facilities, and was more frequent in hospitals (41.38%) than in the nursing homes (28.13%). In 21.3% of the facilities, contamination was detected many times during the study period. Conclusions. Excessive contamination of hot water systems with Legionella sp. bacteria in the examined facilities was a common phenomenon. The presence of the pathogen in the installations of these facilities may constitute a considerable health hazard for patients and residents.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":" 18","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138963585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern mobile devices have become tools used for educational, research, business or recreational purposes. Incorrect position during excessive use of a smartphone can lead to biomechanical changes, the most visible of which is the position of the head in protraction, characterized by the protrusion of the head and neck forward in relation to the shoulder girdle and trunk. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between disability, neck pain (NP), use of phones before bedtime, and hours of using smartphones. Materials and method. The study involved 146 physiotherapy students aged 18–26. Students were asked to complete pain surveys (VAS pain scale), and Neck Disability Index (NDI). Participants were also asked if their pain lasted longer than 3 months, how long they used their smartphone during the day, and whether they used it before bedtime. Results . Statistically significant differences were found between groups with and without neck pain regarding NDI score (p<0.001). Participants who suffered from neck pain longer than 3 months had greater NDI scores (p=0.03), greater intensity of symptoms (p=0.04), greater problems with reading (p<0.01) and driving (p=0.04) than participants who experienced pain for less than 3 months. Using phones before bedtime was related to problems with focusing (p<0.01). There were statistically significant correlations between the time of phone use and disability in terms of reading (p=0.04), focusing (p<0.001), work (p<0.001) and sleeping (p=0.02). Conclusions . Dysfunctions associated with pain in the cervical section may affect the learning abilities of students and thus the acquisition of professional competencies. Not using a smartphone before bedtime is recommended, as it causes poorer concentration. The longer the time spent using the phone, the more significant the disability.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":"40 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138595171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
