Research on runners is most often conducted in the context of sports motivation using the adaptation of the Motivations of Marathoners Scale (MOMS) questionnaire, which, however, does not measure aspects related to tourism, nature or socio-cultural aspects. The aim of the study was to create a Polish adaptation of the Sports Tourism Motivation Scale (STMS) for athletes, especially runners, which, for the first time, enables the examination of socio-cultural and tourism-related aspects among them in Poland. Materials and Method. To conduct the adaptation, the STMS tool was tested among 100 individuals who engage in running: 50 participating in a city-organized running event around cultural monuments (2022 Poznań Marathon) and another 50 individuals running on non-urban routes – in a national park (2022 Łemkowyna Ultra-Trail), exemplified by a nature-surrounded running activity. Results. The conducted studies demonstrated that the STMS proves to be highly valuable in examining motivation among athletes. Confirmation of its structure, successful model fitting, and the ability to identify distinct motivational groups indicate that the scale can provide significant insights into athletes’ motivations. Conclusions. This adaptation will be a crucial tool for researchers, coaches, sports and event managers and sports practitioners to better comprehend the motivations influencing athletes’ behaviours and tailor strategies accordingly to their needs.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141372555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) surveys conducted in 2018 and 2022 allow for a comparison of selected health-related indicators from before the COVID-19 pandemic and from its final phase. The aim of the study is to assess the level of health literacy (HL) among Polish students aged 13–17 years. Materials and Method. The surveys were conducted with nationwide samples of students (N2018=5648 and N2022=4994, respectively). Changes in the overall HLSAC-5 index and its five dimensions were examined. Results. The findings indicate a significant decline in the average HLSAC-5 scores from 15.35±2.40 to 14.84±2.80, alongside an increase in the proportion of students with low HL from 9.85% – 23.67%. Concurrently, the percentage of students rating their health as poor rose from 3.5% to 9.1%. An increasing disparity in HL levels across schools was also observed, with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) escalating from 3.4% to 6.1%. General linear model confirmed a significant influence of gender, age, place of living, family affluence, self-rated health, and eight significant 2-way or 3-way interactions between independent variables. Notably, there were five significant 3-way interactions involving the year of the survey and self-rated health, with the third factor, gender, age, family wealth, presence of a chronic disease, and place of residence, respectively. Conclusions. The study highlights the dynamic nature of HL and its evolving relationship with various socio-demographic and health factors over time. The changes in students’ HL may have been influenced by factors related to living and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140711755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intestinal parasitoses are important causes of morbidity and mortality, especially in immunocompromised individuals. In patients with chronic renal insufficiency (CRI), the accumulation of non-excreted metabolites leads to uraemia, which induces a state of immunodeficiency, increasing the incidence of infections. The aim of the study was molecular screening for enteric protozoa in patients with chronic renal insufficiency. Materials and Method. A total of 53 samples were collected in January 2023 from patients undergoing dialysis at Logman Ltd. Nephrodialysis Centre in Košice, Slovakia. Samples were examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of Cryptosporidium parvum / Cryptosporidium hominis , Giardia intestinalis , Microsporidia spp., and Blastocystis sp. Results. From the 53 samples, the only pathogen identified by PCR was Blastocystis sp., in 13 patients (24.5 %). Sequence analyses confirmed that the most prevalent subtype (ST) among patients was ST 3 (n=9, 69.2%), followed by ST 1 (n=3, 23.1%) and ST 2 (n=1, 7.7%). Conclusions. Molecular methods for the detection of microscopic enteric parasites are not used as a first-line diagnostic method in Slovakia. In immunocompromised patients, diarrhoea can be caused not only by a chronic disease or therapy but can also be a result of an ongoing underdiagnosed infection. Early diagnosis leads to targeted therapy and subsequent partial improvement of the quality of life. This study also shows the first insights into Blastocystis sp. subtype distribution in humans in Slovakia.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140716633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today’s shortage of medical staff is a global healthcare issue. This leads to unfulfilled, growing health needs and rising wage pressure. The aim of the study is to evaluate employment trends among medical professionals in Poland from 2012–2022, paying particular attention to the employment sector, forms of employment, age, gender, and geographic distribution. Materials and Method. A quantitative analysis was carried out using public records and documents to identify trends over a decade, by the desk research method. Sources included: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development databases, Central Statistical Office databases and Ministry of Health Statistical Bulletins. Results. The observed increasing trend of physicians and nurses ratio after 2019, was caused mainly by a change in the methodology of calculating the indicator. There was a notable increase in the number of contracted medical professionals – 303% for nurses and 312% for midwives, and a decrease in the number of employed professionals. The number of contractors and employers in in-patient and long-term care has increased across all professional medical groups, while in outpatient care, the number has decreased. A definite ageing of medical staff was noted, with the percentage of midwives over 65 rising from 5.7% to 19.1%, and nurses over 65 rising from 5.4% to 22.3%. Conclusions. The demand for health services has increased, but the supply of medical staff has not kept pace with this demand. In addition to strategies related to increasing the number of human resources, solutions to better match resources to sectors of healthcare and better regional distribution should be considered. Solutions related to the skill-mix concept and the admission of new professions to the health sector may also be an opportunity for consideration.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140725420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The profession of a physiotherapist is associated with various risks related to manual work, repetitive activities, an uncomfortable prolonged position of joints in some body postures forced by the work, and the standing position, which all impose considerable load on the upper and lower extremities and the spine. The aim of the study was to analyse ailments reported by physiotherapists in relation to their age, gender, seniority, the number of working hours per day, and body position during work. Materials and Method . The study involved 120 physiotherapists working in various types of employment. The research was carried out using an author-design questionnaire based on the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. The occurrence of the ailments was analysed in relation to respondents’ age, gender, seniority, number of working hours per day, and body position during work. An analysis of the relationships between the variables was carried out. The analysis of qualitative variables was performed using the χ2 test. Results. The results showed that the majority of physiotherapists complained of fatigue (78.8%), leg pain (61.9%), spine pain (60.2%), headache (59.3%), and shoulder pain (52.5%). It was shown that such symptoms as fatigue, dizziness, leg pain, finger pain, headache, wrist pain, drowsiness, and numbness, were correlated with age. Conclusions . The pain symptoms reported by the surveyed physiotherapists affected different parts of the body and appeared with different frequency and intensity. The majority of the physiotherapists declared problems with the lower spine, neck, wrists, hands, upper spine, and shoulders. Thigh pain was the most commonly reported symptom, whereas neck pain was reported the least frequently. The lower spine and ankles were indicated as body areas with the most severe and the weakest pain, respectively.","PeriodicalId":50970,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140738434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
