Between 1977 and 1992, when the study of the history of Colombian architecture reached great growth, architecture exhibitions and their accompanying publications were decisive actors in shaping Colombian architectural culture. In addition to documenting these ephemeral events, the publications fostered criticism, academic research, and heritage conservation. Although the enduring nature of books has ensured their significance, the history of architecture exhibitions has been forgotten. Through archival research and interviews, this article recovers the history of two architecture exhibitions from 1980 and 1985, a history that reveals the entanglement of the exhibition of architecture and its editorial dissemination.","PeriodicalId":509608,"journal":{"name":"H-ART. The album shows the various uses of antique architecture and sculpture in Italy, from antiquity to the Baroque. But the last folio of the album contains a print of El Escorial published in Rome that is a copy of the famous print of the same subject by Pedro Perret, made for Juan de Herrera's Estampas published in Madrid. The article analyzes the collection of prints in the Italian album from the point of view of this final plate, proposing that the sequence of images establishes El Escorial as an antiquity that is both Spanish and Christian in a way that Italian audiences would easily understand.","PeriodicalId":509608,"journal":{"name":"H-ART. First, I will discuss the audience of the Risāle both according to its author Caʿfer, a member of the learned class, and his benefactor Mehmed Agha who supported its writing. Second, I will explore how Caʿfer tried to underline the social and ethical role of the architect and architecture in his book for his scholarly audience. Following, the article will look at the perception of architecture as a means for wisdom and knowledge, which justified its higher status within the hierarchy of sciences eventually facilitating a scholar to write a book on this specific topic. Finally, I will argue how an architectural book was not only offered as a book of pleasure for the readers, but also became a part of the Ottoman gift culture, evoking the perception of architecture as a gift to the society.","PeriodicalId":509608,"journal":{"name":"H-ART. I frame the Laurentian Library and its Medici manuscript collection as apparatuses that legitimized perceptions of the Medici’s nobility and overbearing political identity. To get to the library as an instrument of power, I trace the route of the Medici manuscripts –that instigated the design and construction of the Laurentian Library– and conclude by reflecting on the vestibule’s rhetorical devices with a focus on Michelangelo’s \"brackets.\" Following the books from Florence to Rome and back to Florence, the study also points to the relations between the San Marco and San Lorenzo monasteries, the Florentine government, and the Medici, who sought to position and vindicate their sovereignty over Florence via God.","PeriodicalId":509608,"journal":{"name":"H-ART.
