However, its role in intestinal motility remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) at Shangjuxu (ST37) on CaSR in colonic dysplasia mice, and to explore\u0000 the possible mechanism of EA regulating colonic movement. The mice were injected with nicardipine or hexamethonium bromide to induce colonic dysplasia. Intestinal transit function was assessed by twelve hours fecal granules and fecal water content percentage, while colonic slow wave was assessed\u0000 by multi-channel physiological signal acquisition system, immunofluorescence and laser confocal microscopy were used to examine CaSR expression in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of the mice. We found that the number of fecal particles, the frequency and amplitude of colonic slow wave were\u0000 disrupted after nicardipine or hexamethonium bromide injection. In addition, CaSR expression in control group was mainly distributed in intestinal epithelial cells, and the morphological structure of mucosal layer was regular. Compared with control group, the structure of mucosal layer in\u0000 nicardipine group and hexamethonium bromide group were all disorderly, the expression and fluorescence intensity of CaSR in nicardipine group were visible, but in hexamethonium bromide group were weakened. After EA intervention, these disorders were ameliorated, which suggested that EA at\u0000 ST37 could therefore regulate colonic motility disorders via the involvement of CaSR.

This double-blind, randomized controlled trial aimed to compare the result of three sessions of dry needling (DN) versus sham DN on the affected upper limbs in post-stroke survivors. We recruited 24 patients (age 57.0 ±\u0000 9.6 years; male 71%). Patients were randomly allocated to two groups: a DN group and a sham DN group. The primary outcome measures were the Modified Modified Ashworth Scale (MMAS) and the Box and Block Test (BBT). Secondary outcome measures included active and passive wrist range of motion\u0000 (AROM and PROM). All assessments were measured at baseline, immediately after the last session of the intervention, and one month later. Patients in the DN group had improved upper limb spasticity and passive wrist range of motion compared to control group (P < 0.05). There were\u0000 no between-group differences in other outcome measures (P > 0.05). However, the antihypertensive effect of acupuncture is still under debate. In the present study, the blood pressure induced by handgrip\u0000 stress were evaluated using power spectral frequency analysis and hormone examination. This study, which recruited 6 normotensive participants, was designed as a randomized crossover trial of two interventions; electroacupuncture and sham-electroacupuncture. Intervention was delivered as 5\u0000 sessions over 2 consecutive weeks. The first electroacupuncture immediately before handgrip exercise did not affect the rates of increase in blood pressure and heart rate. Also, neither increase in LF/HF ratio, as sympathetic nerve activity, nor decrease in HF value, as parasympathetic nerve\u0000 activity, by handgrip stress was significantly inhibited by a single intervention of electroacupuncture. In addition, 5 repeated electroacupuncture sessions did not attenuate the elevation of blood pressure after handgrip stress, and did not suppress the increase in LF/HF ratio and decrease\u0000 in HF value. Also, electroacupuncture did not influence the changes in plasma concentrations of renin, aldosterone, norepinephrine, and epinephrine after handgrip stress. No difference was observed in the rate of change in each parameter after handgrip stress between the electroacupuncture\u0000 treatment group and the sham-electroacupuncture group. The present study did not show any suppressive effect on stress-induced response of blood pressure as well as sympathetic nerve activity. The obtained findings showed no beneficial effects of acupuncture on hypertension as a standalone\u0000 therapy, consistent with suggestions by previous systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Research with larger sample sizes or higher-quality randomized controlled trials are expected, and a conclusion on the utility of acupuncture treatment for hypertension should be carefully made.

EAU was established in Lewis rats by the injection of IRBP1177–1191 peptide. The rats were randomly divided into control and CIA groups. Phenotypic and histological assessments were performed days 9, 13, 18, 23 post-immunization. The percentage of Th1 and Th17 lymphocytes isolated from lymph nodes were determined by flow cytometry. The expression of IL-17 and IFN-γ was detected by real-time quantitative PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In the CIA group, delayed mild inflammation was observed. Pathological investigation found alleviated infiltration of lymphocytes and ocular damage. Flow cytometry showed significantly decreased Th17 lymphocytes at day 9, 13, and 18 post-immunization (P<0.05) and no significant changes at day 23 post-immunization (P=0.868) after CIA. The Th1 lymphocytes were significantly decreased at day 13 and 18 post-immunization (P<0.05) and comparable at day 9 (P=0.111) and 23 (P=0.551) post-immunization in the CIA group. IL-17 and IFN-γ mRNA levels were notably decreased at day 9, 13 and 18 post-immunization (P<0.05) and showed a downward trend at day 23 post-immunization, although with no significance (P=0.080 and P=0.137, respectively) after CIA. Serum IL-17 and IFN-γ levels in the CIA group were significantly decreased at day 9, 13 and 18 post-immunization (P<0.05) and were comparable at day 23 post-immunization (P=0.078 and P=0.979, respectively). Ocular inflammation was markedly inhibited after catgut implantation at Pishu (BL20) and Shenshu (BL23) acupoints in an EAU rat model. Moreover, CIA reduced Th1 and Th17 lymphocytes and the expression IFN-γ and IL-17.
