Despite the intense number of breeders, there are still many difficulties related to management and scarce studies in the area. The present work addresses one of the treatments of integrative medicine still little explored in veterinary medicine, the chromotherapy technique. It is a holistic vibrational/energetic color therapy, with the aim of evaluating the effect of using chromotherapy on the behavior and well-being of animals. The study was carried out with the use of two couples from the squad located in the city of Votorantim. The birds were divided into two groups, the control group (CG; n = 2) and the treated group (TG; n = 2). In the control group, the birds were kept in a nursery without environmental enrichment and without the base colors of chromotherapy. In the treated group, the birds were in a vivarium with colored toys (environmental enrichment) and with feeders and drinkers of the main colors of chromotherapy. For behavioral evaluation an ethogram was used. It was observed that there was a lower occurrence of infant deaths (TG = 36%; GC= 71%) and no occurrence of chronic posture (TG = 0; GC = 2). According to the conditions proposed in this work, it is suggested that chromotherapy associated with environmental enrichment positively influences the well-being of the birds, reducing the number of chronic postures and deaths of chicks.","PeriodicalId":507127,"journal":{"name":"Pubvet","volume":"17 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141112479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a set of metabolic disorders resulting from tissues' lack of sensitivity to insulin action and/or its relative or absolute deficiency. The clinical manifestations observed include polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, weight loss, persistent hyperglycemia, and glucosuria. Its classification and etiology in dogs are not yet well defined but may be associated with immunomediated, genetic, infectious, hormonal, metabolic, and some drug factors. According to the AHAA® 2018 guidelines (American Animal Hospital Association) for Diabetes Management in Dogs and Cats, therapeutic strategies in all cases include insulin therapy, dietary management, recognition, elimination/minimization of factors associated with insulin resistance. This report presents the case of an 8-year-old intact a dog, Yorkshire Terrier breed, presenting at the time of DM diagnosis clinical characteristics suggestive of diestrus and mammary nodule. The therapeutic approach was a new dietary management with commercial dry food as an adjunct for diabetics and calories appropriate to their body score condition, divided into equal meals before applying insulin and performing ovarian hysterectomy. After the start of treatment, a reduction in persistent hyperglycemia with improvement in clinical manifestations could be observed even before surgical approaches, as diestrus progressed to anestrus. It is concluded that, although canine DM remission is uncommon, it is possible when appropriate insulin therapy is instituted associated with dietary adjustment and reduction of factors causing insulin resistance.","PeriodicalId":507127,"journal":{"name":"Pubvet","volume":"66 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141114055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, it is necessary to carry out good clinical staging for the best therapeutic and surgical planning. The patient, due to the aggressiveness of his neoplasm, underwent a very extensive surgical procedure. The neoplasm took over practically the entire perineal region, tail, anus and vagina. In this surgery a 10 cm margin of the rectum, a 3 cm lateral margin and the sentinel lymph node (iliac) were removed. After surgical recovery, all adjuvant therapy began, as well as postoperative chemotherapy.","PeriodicalId":507127,"journal":{"name":"Pubvet","volume":"23 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141120878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two hundred and twenty-four adults’ snails were divided into four treatments of 14 snails and four replicates. Treatment T0 received only the experimental diet while three other treatments received diet with different inclusion level of T. vulgaris leaf meal at 0.25%, 0.50%, and 0.75%. Feed and leave were quantified using an electronic weighing scale daily. The results obtained show that, feed intake was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in animals receiving 0.75% T. vulgaris compared to other treatments. Likewise, the values of heart, pedal mass were higher in animals receiving 0.25% inclusions of T. vulgaris in the diet. Low relative weight variations in the internal organs across treatments were observed but significant differences occurred regarding only the shell weight and ovotestis. The proximate analysis of snail flesh results obtains shows that dry matter was significantly (P < 0.05) highest in animals receiving 0.25% T. vulgaris in the diet. Minerals analyzed were also significantly (P < 0.05) affected by the inclusion of T. vulgaris in the diet. In conclusion, incorporation of T. vulgaris leaf powder at 0.25% can be recommended in the diet of snails.","PeriodicalId":507127,"journal":{"name":"Pubvet","volume":"13 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140653185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transmission occurs through the implantation of tumor cells, from one animal carrying the disease, to another, during intercourse or through contact between mucous membranes during the habit of licking the genitalia affected by the tumor. They generally present on the genitalia, and can also occur in extragenital regions, such as the snout, eye, mouth and subcutaneous tissue. The tumor has a multilobulated appearance, resembling a cauliflower, is friable, hemorrhagic and grows irregularly. The diagnosis is made through anamnesis, physical examination, tumor cytology and histopathology for the definitive diagnosis. The treatment of choice is chemotherapy with anvicristine sulfate, applied intravenously, weekly, always preceding a blood count to analyze the patient's general health status. Considering that TVT is not commonly described in the nasopharyngeal region of dogs, this work aims to report the case of a four-year-old Shitzu dog, which presented the tumor, with conformations not characteristic of a TVT in the nasopharyngeal region, diagnosed through tomography and histopathology of the tumor, removed after surgical incision.","PeriodicalId":507127,"journal":{"name":"Pubvet","volume":"73 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140655109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
