The study revealed a wide range of training delivery techniques, with on-the-job training, e-learning courses, workshops and seminars, and traditional classroom training being the most common. While the majority of respondents saw favorable effects on industry performance from various training approaches, mixed feedback highlights the need for additional research and optimization. Initiatives promoting community involvement are widely seen as having a significant impact on economic and social outcomes. The study also found a strong positive relationship between thorough training needs assessments and job-related performance, underscoring their significance. The combination of community involvement, effective training needs assessments, and a variety of training modalities is seen to have a good impact on the tourism industry's competitiveness and sustainability. These findings highlight the importance of adaptability and community engagement in fostering industry growth and success.","PeriodicalId":505851,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":" 86","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140991595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It explored the concept of sin in Ifá Corpus of African Indigenous Religion. This was done with a view to eliciting an intercultural understanding of the concept of sin in Yorùbá and biblical cultures. The selected texts of the Bible were interpreted using “Theological Interpretation of Scripture” (TIS) method, while the data collected from both Yorùbá and biblical cultures were analysed using the ‘Intercultural Hermeneutics Principles.’ The result shows that Sin è̩s̩è̩ in Ifá corpus is conceived as às̩ìs̩è (a mistaken deed, a deed that is wide of the mark), àìtọ́ (that which is not straight forward), àìyẹ (unbefitting, unbecoming), àìgbọràn (disobedience), ìrúfin (breaking of the law), àìs̩ótítọ́ (untruthfulness), àìs̩òdodo (unrighteousness) and iniquity (àìs̩edéédé). Also, Sin is conceived as Èèwò̩ (things forbidden, taboo) or A kìí s̩e é (it is not done). All these cognate with the Hebrew words for Sin in Old Testament: Pesha (breaching of morals, passing a reasonable boundary, or breaking a just rule), Chatha (to miss the mark), Awon (iniquity, guilt or punishment) and the Greek words for Sin in the New Testament: Parabaino (to transgress, break or deviate from the way), Parabasis (wrong doing), Paraptoma (trespass, offense, fall, sin, or fault), hamartia and hamartano (a missing of the mark), adikia (unrighteousness), anomia (breaking of the law), apeitheo (disobedience) and apistos (unbelief). The study concluded that there is an intercultural understanding of the concept of sin in both Yorùbá and biblical cultures, as the two cultures regarded sin as a negative value.","PeriodicalId":505851,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":" 47","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140993092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In most cases, women are discriminated against for major pertinent issues. Ekegusii proverbs are used to give a true picture of the values and norms of the community. The study applied Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) by Fairclaugh (1989) which addresses unfairness, injustice and inequalities. A descriptive qualitative design was used to make the research more effective. The researcher adopted purposive sampling to select gender-related proverbs to make this research relevant. This is despite language choices in Ekegusii proverbs being loaded with culturally stereotypical language choices about gender. This study investigated how power discourses are employed in Ekegusii proverbs. The study applied Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) by Fairclough (1989, 1993 and 2001) and Van Dijk (2001). This research adopted a descriptive qualitative research design. The target population was eighty (80) ekegusii proverbs. Purposive sampling procedures were used to select eighty power-related proverbs. The study adopted the three-dimensional discourse framework as a method of data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that power relations are embedded in Ekegusii proverbs. The lexicalization and level of meaning of proverbs showed that these proverbs obtain their sexist and obscene connotations, which are construed as being laden with an impertinent reference that derogates womanhood. The study further revealed that linguistic features such as metaphors, negative syntactic structures, and vocabulary are used to enact power between genders. The study recommends that gendered proverbs be consciously improved to portray gender neutrality, equality and contemporariness.","PeriodicalId":505851,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":" 27","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140992773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was inspired by the urgent need to bridge the gap in knowledge regarding Friends African Mission's influence on education in Western Kenya. The study sought to achieve the following objective: to trace the historical development of Lugulu and Chwele Girls’ High School under the Friends African Mission. The study was carried out within the context of modernization theory. The target population of participants drawn from Chwele girls' secondary school and the neighborhood, included former and current school administrators, teachers, students, local community leaders, and education officials. The sample size of 43 participants was employed with the purposive sampling technique utilized to identify the key informants. The study used historical methods of research as its research design. The main sources of data in the study were primary and secondary. Primary sources included historical documents found in Kenya National Archives, such as official school records, official and private correspondence, and minutes of annual church meetings. Written sources and oral testimonies were also used as primary evidence for the study. Different categories of informants were identified using the snowball technique and subsequently interviewed. Their testimonies were critical in either reporting or corroborating evidence from archival sources. After the details had been checked and confirmed, it was acknowledged as empirical proof for the analysis. This proof was then qualitatively examined. This coincided with creating a coding scheme in which those topics covered by the said proof were described. The study unearthed several findings when considered in light of its objective and theoretical framework. The Friends African Mission played an important role in the Historical development of Chwele Girls’ High School in Bungoma County. The study has revealed that the school has transformed the lives of girls and women in the community and in Kenya at large. In conclusion, the study recommended that the government should provide scholarships to needy girls and allow those who become pregnant to go back to school after delivery to ensure their safety and security. The alumni of Chwele Girls' High School should take an active role in the management of the school to improve its performance. The old girls should go out of their way to support and nurture young girls at these institutions.","PeriodicalId":505851,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":" 91","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140993364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, it has also forced online education system practices among Moroccan higher education institutions. With the spread of COVID-19 all over, the Moroccan education system circumstances did not allow face-to-face education, nor did it allow online education as a solution. As a matter of fact, hybrid learning remains the best-proposed alternative, as suggested in the literature. The present paper's main objectives were to investigate higher education English learners' attitudes towards hybrid education and examine the efficacy of hybrid education among higher education learners. After using a qualitative method, a questionnaire of 24 Likert Scale items delivered on Google Forum, and an interview of 18 learners, the findings suggested that Moroccan higher education learners showed that hybrid education does not support the majority of participants' learning process. However, hybrid learning was, to an extent, a successful experience for a number of other participants. The unsatisfying quality of the internet remains an issue to be sorted out in the future, and laziness in attending online morning classes was also evidence of why hybrid learning remained challenging. Learners favoured face-to-face classroom-based instructions over blended learning regardless of the advantages of the latter. A great portion of the population favoured face-to-face rather than online learning. The learners also got confused using the hybrid model. Last, it was evidence that the learners preferred the face-to-face model as their best model to use in many cases.","PeriodicalId":505851,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"32 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140396690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Festivals and funerals are social events that are held in public to express, reflect and strengthen community social relationships, as well as celebrate the lives of significant relations who have died. They are two of the experiential rites of passage in the Ghanaian culture and are observed through the use of special forms of language, dance and music. These art forms have important roles to play in Ghanaian traditional events, their main function being that they engender unity and cohesion and discourage deviant and irresponsible behavior within the society. Kpashimo is usually celebrated as the climax of the Teshie homowo festivities. Fontomfrom, in addition to being the name of an Akan drum, is also the name given to an important Akan ceremonial dance. This paper examines the socio-cultural significance and relevance of the kpaashimo and fontomfrom dances and their utility in the Teshie and Adukrom social contexts, respectively. The study was done using the functionalist approach, utilizing dance as a medium to stimulate social control, cohesion, and unity in two geographically different cultures. Despite the disparate cultures, dance was used successfully to achieve the required goals and, in essence, validate the claims about the universality of dance in the Ghanaian context. It was a qualitative research employing essentially observation and interviews. Photos and videos were also used for efficient illustration and accurate recall.","PeriodicalId":505851,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"1 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140397055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Politics of State Survival and the Dilemma of Nation-Building in Post-Independence Nigeria 独立后尼日利亚的国家生存政治和国家建设困境

The above is usually associated with a typically hugely populated and ethno-culturally heterogeneous society, and it renders the country fatigued with the burden of nation-building. Thus, the twin-challenges of state-survival and nation-building have occupied and dominated the political and socio-economic affairs of post-independence Nigeria. The notion of state survival is a realist paradigm which compels nation-states to use all the instruments at their disposal to seek the retention of their national identity within the precarious and predatory international system. Nation building, on the other hand, entails the process of forging a common identity and a sense of national empathy, shared values, and cultures constituting a state. This paper contends that while the pursuit of state survival is propelled by the external environment in which Nigeria emerged and intricately subsists, the structural challenges inherited at independence, no doubt raised the task of nation-building. As complimentary as the two challenges featured and influenced the nation's policy commitments towards the local and international environments, a cursory examination of Nigeria's socio-economic and political trajectories since independence reveal that state survival has often been aggressively pursued at the expense of nation-building resulting into structural volatility which inadvertently threatened the nation's survival prospects. The position of this paper is that efforts should be made to balance these two ultimate challenges in the quest to reposition Nigeria towards the path of greatness.","PeriodicalId":505851,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"28 37","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140396894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
