This study assesses the probabilistic human health risk for two receptors groups (residents and workers) of Portovelo mining area through exposure to Mercury (Hg) in the air at two sites: (a) the central urban area; and (b) El Pache sector. A preliminary risk assessment was performed using Hg concentrations from previous studies. The human health risk in the workplace scenario showed unacceptable levels of non-carcinogenic risk in rainy and dry seasons. Hazard Quotient (HQ) showed that 75% of the workers receptors were exposed to harmful effects on the nervous, digestive, respiratory, and immune systems. Regarding the residential scenario, no human health risk is presented. The study provides information on the levels of risk to the health of the inhabitants living in mining communities to improve public management strategies to minimize risks.

With a constant torque of 1.5 Newton per meter. It is carried out by applying the mathematical model, the formulas for commutation times and space vectors in Simulink taking into account the maximum and minimum values of operation by applying the SVPWM method to generate the trigger signal in the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor bridge. (IGBT's), implementing the model in the Lucas Nulle practice module, taking the power data and calculating the efficiency to compare with the mathematical model and validate, resulting that the controller efficiency varies according to the switching speed of the semiconductor block, with the operation of a motor of 0.37kW and 1KW at a speed of 200rpm the efficiency of the controller reaches a value of 72.67% in the physical model that consists of 6 IGBT's of 1 kVA and 69% in the simulated model presenting an error of 5% and a switching speed of the IGBT's of 248.641ms.

Despite the advantages they possess, its use is limited by production costs. In terms of the culture systems used for process improvement, fed batch systems are the most studied, since they allow higher productivity to be obtained. In this study, PHAs production was reviewed with a new feeding model against the reported exponential model and under improved culture conditions. In the results, the predictive feeding strategy allowed to improve the production of PHAs (24.1 ± 1.14 g/L) by controlling the concentration of residual substrate, with respect to the exponential model (18.1 ± 1.33 g/L), achieving a biomass concentration of 40.9 ± 1.12 g/L and a polymer productivity of 1.01 gPHA/L.h, improving the process by 25%.

The application assists the step-by-step calculation of plane stress problems, which is a fundamental topic in teaching the subject of Mechanics of Materials in engineering careers. The application is a computer program developed in Fortran, linked to the free Computer Algebra System MAXIMA to plot Mohr’s circle of stresses. The developed tool is user-friendly and completely solves the plane stress problem, the associated deformations, and the strain energy by drawing Mohr’s circle of plane stresses. A validation case is presented with a typical example of the mechanics of materials. The results show the feasibility of using custom-designed tools to strengthen classroom learning and autonomous work.

Although some microgrid planning strategies allow for scaled-down energy solutions for these areas, a solely electrical approach does not facilitate the integration of a range of energy vectors. Considering the above, this study presents a multi-objective approach to optimally scale multi-energy systems (MES) in NIZ in Colombia to minimize both costs and pollutant emissions. The methodology is based on the MOPSO algorithm, which provides a set of optimized solutions that can be selected according to multiple criteria. The capabilities of the methodology are tested through a comparative study of microgrid planning in the Bahía Málaga area on Colombia’s Pacific coast. The results present solutions with lower costs and lower environmental impact, benefits that can be applied in other NIZ worldwide.

Special interest is focused on buildings, communication towers, or tower cranes, as well as any other kind of framed structures. A pure analytical solution for the lateral deflections and vertical displacements, stresses and bending moments of a framed structure under power-law lateral loads is presented in a non-dimensional form. The internal forces of the structure are stated by the force method which drives to a set of linear equations, which are analytically solved, thus reaching an exact, continuous, and differentiable solution. A parametric analysis is performed on a simplified case to show the influence of the dimensionless parameters on the solution. An explicit solution for deflections and bending moments is included for one and two structural levels. The solution is validated via numerical software, using STR and ABAQUS, upon a population of ten, building-like structures.\u0000Keywords: structure, deflections, force method, tower, building, lateral load, non-dimensional, antisymmetric

To obtain the highest precision, we have used two different classification scenarios, three algorithms, and five metrics. Also, we assume that the results can be improved by extracting the image characteristics using descriptors and using them as input. Then, we used two descriptors: a histogram of oriented gradient and a convolutional neural network ResNet-50. The power distribution between different sources influences the performance of the system, which involves many factors. To distribute the power effectively and enhance the efficiency and fuel economy of a single-stack fuel cell system, this study proposed a hierarchical energy management strategy (EMS) for MFCHS. An MFCHS configuration that included three fuel cell systems and a battery was presented. An MFCHS model that incorporated the effect of altitude was constructed, and an efficiency analysis of the multi-stack fuel cell system (MFCS) was performed. The hierarchical EMS of MFCHS was composed of a bottom control layer and a top management layer. The bottom control layer utilized a coordinated optimal distribution strategy based on the maximum efficiency range of MFCS to realize optimal power allocation between the different fuel cells in MFCS. The top management layer used EMS under multiple operating conditions to realize the effective distribution of the demand power between MFCS and the battery. Results demonstrate that the proposed strategy improves the average efficiency of MFCS by up to 5.2% and 8.9% compared with those of the equal distribution and daisy chain strategies, respectively. The proposed strategy also displays good performance in terms of the hydrogen consumption of MFCS, which saved 1% and 3% hydrogen compared with the equal distribution and daisy chain strategies, respectively. The proposed strategy results in promising improvements in the overall performance of the system. This study provides a good reference for developing EMS for MFCHS.\u0000\u0000Keywords: Fuel cell, Multi-stack fuel cell hybrid power system, Energy management strategy, Coordinated optimal distribution, Maximum efficiency range
