Human C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant involved in chronic and acute inflammation, which plays an important role in developing many diseases, such as type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study aimed to evaluate the association between CRP 1059G>C Polymorphism and predisposition to T2D in patients from a population of Morocco. We analyzed data from 212 patients with T2D and 158 controls. After the DNA is extracted from the blood samples, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and agarose gel electrophoresis are performed to determine the CRP gene's 1059G>C polymorphism. In the comparison between the control and patient groups, there was a significant difference in both genotype and allele frequencies (P < 0.0001 and P < 0.0001, respectively). The prevalence of GG and GC genotypes in diabetic patients was 96.7% and 3.3%, respectively, while in controls, it was 81.6% and 18.4%, respectively. The heterozygote GC was associated with a higher risk of T2D compared to the GG genotype (OR = 0.15, 95%CI = 0.06–0.35, P < 0.001). Regarding the allele frequencies, in the diabetic group, the G and C alleles were found at 98.3% and 1.7%, respectively, while in controls, they were present at frequencies of 90.8% and 9.2%, respectively. The CRP C allele was associated with a 0.16-fold decreased risk of T2D compared to the G allele (OR = 0.16, 95%CI = 0.07–0.38, P < 0.001). These results indicate a significant association between the CRP 1059G>C polymorphism and T2D in the Moroccan population.","PeriodicalId":505538,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. Visfatin is a peptide that plays a role in endocrine, autocrine, and paracrine functions. Methods : Samples were collected from 90 women aged 16 to 40 years, divided into two groups. The PCOS group comprised 60 samples, with 30 women who had insulin resistance and 30 women who did not. The healthy group included 30 samples. The visfatin levels for all participants and performed genotyping for specific regions of the visfatin (rs1330082) gene using Real-time PCR were measured. The statistical significance is defined as p ≤ 0.05 for all comparisons. Results: The results showed that women with PCOS and insulin resistance had significantly higher levels of serum visfatin compared to other studies (6.640±0.3886, p <0.0001). However, there was no significant difference regarding the frequency of visfatin rs1330082 allele between the study groups. Conclusion: The research indicates that measuring serum visfatin levels could be a helpful tool for predicting insulin resistance in women with PCOS. However, we did not find any significant correlation between visfatin allele frequencies (rs1330082) and susceptibility to PCOS when compared to healthy controls.","PeriodicalId":505538,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. The present study was designed to obtain more clarification of some hormonal changes in women patients with osteoporosis and heart diseases. It find out the role of some hormonal parameters Calcitonin(CT) , Parathyroid (PTH), and Estrogen ( E 2 ) in the serum of women patients with osteoporosis and heart diseases. The result of hormonal parameters include: Calcitonin, Estrogen showed significantly decreased (P≤0.05) in groups of osteoporosis, Heart disease, and osteoporosis with heart disease in comparison with control group. The study was designed to demonstrate the cardiotoxic consequences of anti-COVID-19 drugs and to clarify the protective role and mechanisms of different dietary natural extracts. Methods Forty-eight rats were divided into eight groups; Control, groups II-VI received 30 mg/kg azithromycin, 30 mg/kg dexamethasone and anti-COVID-19 protocol (30 mg /kg azithromycin, 30 mg/kg dexamethasone, 6.7 mg/kg vitamin C and 0.26 mg /kg zinc) orally for fourteen days, groups V-VIII received co-treatment of anti-COVID-19 protocol plus orally administration of 7.5 mg/kg Arabic gum, 4 ml/kg Nigella sativa oil, 83 µmol /kg nano-quercetin, and 500 mg/kg Thymus vulgaris extract, respectively for 14 days. Results anti COVID-19 drugs showed significant elevation in cardiac enzymes, malondialdehyde, nuclear factor-kappa B and interleukin-1 Beta besides a decrease in superoxide dismutase level. In addition, significant upregulation in expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha, caspase-3 genes and alpha-smooth muscle actin in myocardial cells. However Arabic gum, Nigella sativa oil, nano-quercetin, and Thymus vulgaris extract co-treatments significantly improved these alterations and attenuated the expression of caspase-3, TNF-α genes and α-SMA protein. Conclusion: combined treatment with the examined dietary natural extracts especially nano quercetin established ameliorative effects against cardiotoxicity induced by anti-COVID-19 drugs through anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects.","PeriodicalId":505538,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. Samples were collected (60 patients) and 30 healthy women who were considered as a control group in the city of Samarra after confirming that they had hyperthyroidism . The results of the study showed a significant decrease in body mass index (BMI) (P ≤ 0.05), as the affected group suffered from a decrease in weight compared to the control group. The results of the (TG) and (IL-1β) tests also showed the presence of a significant increase at a significant level (P≤0.05) in the values of the hyperthyroidism group when compared with the control group. It is clear from the results of the study that there is an effect of the disease on the body mass index, and that an increase in the levels of both (TG) and (IL-1β) may indicate an immune influence on the progression of the disease.","PeriodicalId":505538,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences.
