The word triggers a broad range of emotions and usually requires a long-range commitment to disciplined financial planning. It means different things across different regions of the world. Some people are never able to retire, while others chose not to. For many, retirement opens a window to new opportunities for personal pursuit and achievement of lifetime goals that were delayed due to a lack of free time during the working years. Perhaps the best definition of being retired is reaching a point in life when receiving a monthly paycheck stops. This is the first time that the Annual Meeting has been held outside North America since 2005. Some readers and Society members will recall that in 2000, the Annual Meeting was held in Hong Kong, China, and that the 2005 Annual Meeting was held in Rome, Italy.
