Do Members Retire From IEEE? [From the Editor’s Desk]

Abstract

Retired. The word triggers a broad range of emotions and usually requires a long-range commitment to disciplined financial planning. It means different things across different regions of the world. Some people are never able to retire, while others chose not to. For many, retirement opens a window to new opportunities for personal pursuit and achievement of lifetime goals that were delayed due to a lack of free time during the working years. Perhaps the best definition of being retired is reaching a point in life when receiving a monthly paycheck stops. From this point forward, every individual is responsible to have saved enough resources that, combined with available retirement benefits, they will sustain themselves and their loved ones, typically members of their immediate family.
