Weeds are another threat to yield of rice irrespective of different establishment methods. Until checked, it can decline rice yield and quality up to more than 70%. SRI and aerobic rice have different densities of weeds and integrated weed management can be applied to suppress the weeds. Considering the current scenario, research was conducted to investigate growth, yield and bioenergetics of rice under different establishment methods and weed management. Methods: The experiment entitled “Effect of crop establishment methods and weed management practices on productivity and bioenergetics of rice” was carried out in split plot design with main plots, viz., M1- aerobic rice (AR) and M2- system of rice intensification (SRI) and five subplots W1- pre-emergence (pendimethalin @1 kg a.i ha-1) fb post-emergence (bispyribac-sodium @20g a.i ha-1) (PE+POE), W2- pre-emergence (pendimethalin @1 kg a.i ha-1) fb cono weeding at 15, 30, and 45 DAT/ DAS (PE+CW), W3- weed free (WF), W4- weedy check (WC), W5- stale seedbed followed by post-emergence herbicide (bispyribac-sodium 10% SC 20 g a.i ha-1) (SSB+POE) in split plot design with three replications taking the variety ‘Pusa Basmati-1121’ as a test crop. Result: Among the establishment methods, SRI recorded significantly higher growth attributes like plant height and dry matter production and yield attributes like number of panicles per hill, panicle length, number of grains per panicle, test weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield, and harvest index. Among the weed management treatments, WF recorded significantly higher growth attributes like plant height, number of tillers per hill, dry matter production and yield attributes like number of panicles per hill, panicle length, number of grains per panicle, test weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield, and harvest index that was followed by treatment PE+CW. Maximum net return and B:C ratio was observed in the treatment combinations M2W2- SRI + (PE+CW). The maximum total energy input was found in the treatment combination M1W1- AR+ (PE+POE) and the maximum total energy output was found in the treatment combination M2W3- SRI + WF. The energy intensiveness was observed to be maximum in the treatment combination M1W4- AR + WC and the maximum energy efficiency index was observed in the treatment combination M2W3- SRI+WF.\u0000","PeriodicalId":503872,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Science Digest - A Research Journal","volume":"84 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141268292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Integrated farming systems are being developed for location specific because enormous problems are being aroused in the agriculture and allied sectors such as declined factor productivity, profitability, unscientific management of farm resources, decreases in crops and livestock productivity due to climate change, changes in food habits of the people, deprived soil health, low inputs use efficiencies, declined in crop diversification and biodiversity, increased cost of production, utilization of high energy inputs, produces low energy outputs and other problems are also coexisted in current farming system. The integrated farming system includes different components like crops, livestock, poultry, beekeeping, fisheries, mushroom, kitchen garden, boundary plantation and others to cultivate in an integrated way for efficient utilization of limited farm resources. Moreover, imperative need to resolve these ablaze issues with the help of development of location-specific integrated farming system modules/models. IFS is a tool of sustainable strategies for the meeting of assorted agrarian anxieties along with ensured food and nutritional security and conserved ecosystem services. The standardized and upscale IFS models increased the productivity and profitability of the farmers more than mono-cropping and single-farm enterprises. The conducted studies emphases about enhance soil quality indicators, recycling and saving plant nutrients by around 55.6% through proper management of farm-based waste and byproducts. A total of 265.18 kg nitrogen, 48.91 kg phosphorus and 269.48 kg potassium can be saved through recycled farm-based waste or byproducts of a 1.5 ha model which comprises nine components. In conclusion, IFS modules/models are emission-negative or low GHG emitters, paving the way for promoting of climate-friendly farming in India. IFS emerges as a holistic approach to increase climate-resilient, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced, it is a potential for sustainable agriculture development requiring continued research, policy support and innovative strategies for widespread adoption. As regards to livelihood security, the IFS approach has adapted to meet the home-grown family needs of cereals, pulses, oils, fruits, milk, meat, eggs, and vegetables. The future direction for research includes vertical farming, climate-smart farming systems, and improving the quality and sustainability of the farming systems, especially for underprivileged farm householders.\u0000","PeriodicalId":503872,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Science Digest - A Research Journal","volume":"67 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141268502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, probiotics are isolated and selected In vitro from several sources. Despite this, only a few studies focused on isolating probiotics from cereals, which are the main natural food source for poultry. This study aimed to evaluate and identify an autochthonous Lactobacillus spp. isolated from Algerian fermented wheat “Hamoum” as potential probiotics for use in broiler feed. Methods: This research was conducted over the period between 2019-2022. Five bacterial isolates of the genus Lactobacillus were tested for their hemolysis activity, exopolysaccharides production, the ability to withstand the simulated hostile conditions of the chicken’s gut and their capacity to acidify the concentrate feed beverage. Finally, molecular identification was performed using the REP-PCR technique. Result: These isolates were found to produce exopolysaccharides and have no hemolytic activity. Also, could tolerate simulated gastric acidity. However, only three isolates were able to survive in the presence of bile salts and were found to have a high capacity for acidifying medium in a relatively short time. These isolates were identified as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus plantarum subsp plantarum. Those strains can be considered safe candidate probiotics for use in broiler feeds feed. Farmers in Berekum have little information on the specific rate of nutrient, especially nitrogen application for hybrid and open pollinated maize varieties. Methods: A field experiment was carried out in Berekum Municipality of Ghana to determine the effects of different doses of N fertilizer (0, 90, 120 and 150 kg N ha-1) on growth and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of Pannar 12 (hybrid) and Omankwa (open-pollinated) maize varieties. The experiment was conducted in a factorial randomized block design and replicated thrice. Result: Experimental results revealed that incremental doses of nitrogen significantly impacted vegetative growth and NUE of maize. The studies indicated that the growth response in terms of plant height, number of leaves per plant and stem diameter of Omankwa was better than that of Pannar 12. It was found that in the main cropping period of 2019, the maximum NUE of 14.58 kg/kg was gained when Pannar 12 was grown with 150 kg N ha-1, while the highest NUE (15.91 kg/kg) was recorded when Omankwa was grown with 90 kg N ha-1. In the minor season of 2019, NUE was highest (13.54 kg/kg) when Pannar 12 was grown with 150 kg N ha-1, while application of 120 kg N ha-1 to Omankwa resulted in the highest NUE (10.85 kg/kg). The studies indicated that application of nitrogen at 90, 120 and 150 kg N ha-1 improved NUE in maize. This work has the objective to in vivo biocontrol on bayoud disease incidence on three date palm varieties (Deglet-Nour, Feggous and H-mira), using two antagonistic microorganisms, one fungus (Trichoderma harzianum) and one bacterium (Bacillus subtilus). Methods: Foa strains obtained from isolation of the spines carrying the typical symptoms of Bayoud disease. Two strains used T. harzianum and B. subtilus, are isolated from rhizosphere soils of the date palm. Using the greenhouse screening test, the in vivo biocontrol test is carried out on 3-4 month-old date palm seedlings at the rate of 5 ml of inoculum suspension. Result: A significant (P less than 0.01), difference of date palm seedlings reactions against Foa isolate and antagonistic microorganisms was observed. All three date palm varieties present a high susceptibility against Foa until the total mortality of date palm seedlings. The biocontrol test showed that two antagonists showed different reaction, with the complete resistance of three varieties treated by T. harzianum, while, the antagonist B. subtilus protect just two varieties (Deglet-Nour and H-mira) and can’t protect Feggous variety when showed the susceptibility reaction by presentation of typical symptoms of bayoud disease. Result: The results revealed that that vitavax treated soybean seeds stored in Super grain bags with desiccants viz., CaCl2 or drying beads exhibited the highest seed germination, seedling length, seedling dry weight, vigour index-I and II than cloth bags after nine months of storage. The loss in seed vigour during storage was only 12 per cent in Super grain bags as compared to 83 per cent in cloth bags indicated that Super grain bag has the potential to effectively contain the influence of environment on seeds stored in it. Hence, it is suggested that the vigour and viability of soybean seeds could be very well prolonged by storing fungicide treated seeds in Super grain bag instead of cloth bags under coastal environment.\u0000","PeriodicalId":503872,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Science Digest - A Research Journal","volume":"64 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140964890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
