Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu 6 siswa di salah satu SMPN Kabupaten Garut. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan tes tertulis, lembar wawancara, dan observasi lapangan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan tahap reduksi data, tahap penyajian data, dan tahap penarikan kesimpulan. Adapun hasil analisis kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa pada materi relasi dan fungsi, antara lain: a) Sebanyak 4 siswa mampu memenuhi indikator mengajukan dugaan, melakukan manipulasi matematis, menyusun bukti, memberikan alasan atau bukti terhadap kebenaran solusi, menarik kesimpulan, serta memeriksa kesahihan suatu argumen; b) Semua siswa mampu menemukan pola atau sifat dari gejala matematis, namun terdapat dua siswa yang belum mampu untuk membuat generalisasi. Kemampuan pemahaman matematis sebagai aspek sangat penting dalam pembelajaran matematika. Keberhasilan belajar matematika, tidak hanya ditentukan oleh kemampuan pemahaman matematis peserta didik, perhatian dan minat dalam pembelajaran, sikap ulet dan percaya diri dalam dalam memecahkan masalah matematika. Pengembangan aspek sikap dalam matematika ini, pada dasarnya adalah untuk menumbuhkembangkan disposisi matematika. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan sistematika literature review. Sebanyak 30 jurnal direview, dari empat database dicari untuk pembelajaran matematika di sekolah menengah pertama, kemampuan pemahaman matematis, disposisi matematis dan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning.
