In addition, the study examines the notion of consumer minimalism, the mediating role of environmental consciousness and the moderating role of consumer scepticism to explain consumer rental consumption intention.Design/methodology/approachThe research used a survey questionnaire to collect data from Indian consumers (N = 259). Data analysis involved using structural equation modelling with AMOS v25 and PROCESS macro. Structural equation modelling was employed to test the models involving mediation, moderation and moderated mediation.FindingsThe findings link consumer minimalism and the intention to rent products. This research contributed to the existing body of knowledge by incorporating the concepts of consumer minimalism and consumer scepticism into consumers' decisions regarding renting products. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that environmental consciousness enhances consumers' inclination to rent products, shedding light on the factors influencing this preference.Originality/valueThis research extends the existing literature on consumer purchase intentions for rented products by investigating how consumer minimalism, mediated by environmental consciousness and moderated by consumer scepticism, influences these intentions. The results offer valuable insights for both theoretical understanding and practical applications, guiding marketing developers and brands that cater to minimalist consumers interested in renting products. Additionally, it suggests future research avenues in this domain.","PeriodicalId":502853,"journal":{"name":"Benchmarking: An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139838861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of granting stock options to managers is to align their interests with stockholders by tying a portion of their compensation to the company’s stock performance. However, unexercised stock options may have unintended consequences by providing managers with a vested interest in artificially boosting stock prices via stock buybacks. The primary objective of this research is to study the main factors that influence firms' buyback decisions amongst hospitality firms at a time when these firms were clamoring for taxpayer bailouts. Results from logistic regression seem to suggest that outstanding executive stock options are a major contributory factor in a firm’s buyback decision. Estimates also indicate that larger, more profitable firms will likely engage in stock buybacks. These findings survive a battery of tests.Design/methodology/approach The authors use logistic regression to predict the probability of a firm’s buyback decision based on a given set of exogenous explanatory variables.Findings The paper supports the hypothesis that buyback decisions are guided by the motive to prop support stock prices in the presence of outstanding restricted stock options/warrants granted to firms' executives.Research limitations/implications The paper focuses on the buyback decision of U.S. hospitality firms. The results, therefore, might not be generalizable to firms in other industries or countries.Practical implications U.S. share repurchase corporate policy and government regulation needs to be revisited given the economic imperative for firms to invest in activities to restore employment and put them in a position for economic recovery.Social implications Public criticism of the size, structure and form (i.e. loan vs grant) of COVID-19 bailouts warrants an examination of whether the factors that drive hospitality and tourism firms to repurchase shares support economic recovery.Originality/value Consistent with agency theory, the authors find a significant positive association between outstanding restricted stocks and a firm’s decision to support the stock prices by buying back shares.","PeriodicalId":502853,"journal":{"name":"Benchmarking: An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139792419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Later findings revealed that the prime influencer of unorganized workers’ contribution is employment contracts followed by average earnings, delivery of quality services, eligibility and accessibility.Practical implicationsThe research findings are feasible as the basic propositions are based on real-world scenario. The identification and ranking of factors have the potential to be used as a checklist for policymakers when designing pension and social insurance for unorganized workers. If it is not possible to consider all, the criteria and sub-criteria assigned upper rank can be given priority to extend pension coverage for a large group of working poor.Social implicationsThe key factors driving social insurance contributions have been highlighted by studying the stakeholders’ perceptions at a micro level. By comprehending the challenges, there is a possibility of covering a large section of the working poor into social insurance coverage.Originality/valueThis paper is believed to be one of its kinds to acknowledge a combination of factors that determine the contribution of unorganized workers to social insurance. Now India is aspiring to be a global manufacturing hub, and I5.0 offers enormous potential to position India as a forerunner in intelligent and collaborative manufacturing systems. Therefore, this research article aims to understand the relationship between I5.0 and sustainable manufacturing (SM) thoroughly; pinpoint its impact and implementation challenges; analyze its impact on Triple-Bottom-Line (TBL) sustainability; and present an inclusive framework for I5.0 implementation for Indian manufacturing enterprises.Design/methodology/approachThe coexistence of two industrial revolutions raises questions, which necessitates debates and explanations. Thus, the systematic literature review (SLR) approach is used to address this issue and this study used Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct and Google Scholar databases. Following a critical SLR, 82 research papers have been cited in this article, and the majority of cited articles were published from 2010 to 2022, to ensure a focused analysis of pertinent and recent scholarly contributions.FindingsI4.0 is considered to be technology-driven, however, I5.0 is perceived to be value-driven. I5.0 is not a replacement or a chronological continuation of the I4.0 paradigm. The notion of I5.0 offers a distinct perspective and emphasizes the necessity of research on SM within the TBL sustainability boundaries. I5.0 introduces a new TBL: resilience in value creation, human well-being and sustainable society. Indeed, I5.0 seems to be economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable while manufacturing products with high productivity.Practical implicationsTheoretical implications pertain to restructuring business models and workforce transformation, whereas practical implications underscore the significance for manufacturing enterprises to embrace I5.0 for their sustainable development. By understanding the nuanced relationship between I5.0 and SM, enterprises can navigate implementation challenges, maximize TBL sustainability and embrace an inclusive I5.0 framework for high productivity and resilience.Originality/valueThe existing literature presents the general notion of I5.0 but lacks in-depth TBL sustainability analysis. This research used a systematic and rigorous SLR approach that evaluates the existing literature, enables an in-depth understanding, identifies research gaps and provides evidence-based recommendations for the decision-making process. Furthermore, this research aims to stand on an unbiased assessment, exploring theoretical and practical implications of I5.0 implementation for manufacturing enterprises and suggesting future research avenues.","PeriodicalId":502853,"journal":{"name":"Benchmarking: An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139683122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
