Using a secondary data analysis approach, data was obtained from BAZNAS annual reports, government publications, scientific articles and other sources. Qualitative research methods with descriptive analysis were used to evaluate the effectiveness of ZIS fund distribution based on the ACR (Allocation to Collection Ratio) ratio in the Zakat Core Principle model. The research results show that ZIS fund collection experienced fluctuations during this period, with fund distribution always reaching 100% of the funds collected each year. The ACR ratio which consistently reaches 100% shows that BAZNAS West Kalimantan is very effective in distributing ZIS funds. The ZIS fund distribution program has a positive impact on community welfare, especially in access to education and health, although the long-term impact on economic empowerment still requires improvement. The success of the program is influenced by the quality of BAZNAS management, community participation, government support, and collaboration with various institutions. Recommendations for increasing effectiveness include strengthening economic empowerment, increasing transparency and accountability, improving program management, collaborating with external parties, and regularly evaluating program impacts. This research provides recommendations for improving the ZIS fund distribution program, with the hope that ZIS fund management can be more optimal and precise the target is to improve the welfare of the beneficiary communities in West Kalimantan.","PeriodicalId":502721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Economics, Management and Trade","volume":"57 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141665025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through a literature review, it investigates the influence of natural disasters on international trade, focusing on challenges encountered by developing economies like Ghana. The study emphasizes the interconnectedness of global trade networks and the need for proactive risk management. Existing qualitative literature from previous studies was synthesized and analyzed for the study which revealed that over the last three years, Ghana's exports to the United Arab Emirates have grown significantly, from $117 million in 2021 to $1.71 billion in 2023. This suggests that the market for Ghanaian goods in the United Arab Emirates is growing, maybe as a result of enhanced market access, diversified product offerings, or rising demand. Although Ghana's exports to the United Arab Emirates have been increasing, the UAE's imports into Ghana have varied over time. Ghana has a trade deficit as a result of the steady tendency of imports to exceed exports, notwithstanding fluctuations. Findings suggest potential disruptions to Ghana's trade activities and economic growth due to Dubai's flooding, highlighting the importance of resilience-building measures and diversification of trade partners and markets. Recommendations include investing in resilient infrastructure, promoting digital trade, enhancing institutional capacity, and fostering regional cooperation. By offering insights for policymakers, businesses, and stakeholders, this study contributes to understanding the resilience of developing economies to natural disasters and provides practical guidance for Ghana to navigate the challenges posed by Dubai's flooding and achieve sustainable growth.","PeriodicalId":502721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Economics, Management and Trade","volume":"60 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140970852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study investigated empirical validity of the conditional higher order moment Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) in the context of the Indian stock market, specifically the Bombay Stock Exchange utilizing the data from sectoral indices for the period from April 2011 to March 2021. To test the four moment CAPM empirically, the specification derived from Bollerslev et al. (1988) has been used in the study. The study's findings reveals that the higher moment i.e. conditional coskewness and cokurtosis hold significant pricing implications and do have an impact on returns in the Indian stock market. The explanatory power of the model showed an increase as compared to the unconditional CAPM as the R-square value obtained was greater than the latter model. The results of the study were found to be mixed and inconclusive. Hence, the conditional higher moment CAPM cannot be validated in the Indian context.","PeriodicalId":502721,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Economics, Management and Trade","volume":"77 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140376109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adopting correlation research design, the target population was all the listed DMBs in Nigeria as at 31st December, 2022 and were nineteen (19) in number. Out of the 19 banks, 16 were purposively selected as sample based on the criteria that, the bank must have been listed before 31st December 2017 and also have complete annual report and account over the period of five years from 2018-2022. The study used descriptive statistics and panel regression analysis to analyze the data collected, and the results of the analyses revealed that, credit risk management, market risk management and capital adequacy risk management have positive and significant effect on the financial performance of the listed DMBs in Nigeria over the period of the study. However, liquidity risk management was found to have negative but insignificant effect on the financial performance of the banks. Hence, the study concluded that; effective risk management have positive and significant effect on the financial performance of listed DMBs in Nigeria. Based on these findings, this study recommends that; the management of listed DMBs in Nigeria should improve and strengthen their liquidity management strategies, while keeping adequate watch on credit risk, market risk, and capital adequacy risk to further improve their financial performance. Therefore, further studies could look into the effect of effective risk management process (risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and controlling process) on the financial performance of DMBs.
