Methods: Description of type 2 distal arthrogryposis affecting hands and feet, a bilateral, congenital hearing loss, alterations such as keloid-like scarring, congenital heart disease, and cryptorchidism with no relevant family history. Results: Corrected visual acuity in the right eye (RE) was 0.5 and in the left eye was 1 and, in addition to that, a bilateral corneal subepithelial fibrosis that was denser in the RE without neovessels and no signs of inflammatory activity. Conclusion: This is the first publication relating arthrogryposis with corneal affectation, probably because of a collagen anomaly characteristic in these patients.","PeriodicalId":502139,"journal":{"name":"Eye & Contact Lens","volume":" ","pages":"e5-8"},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/ICL.0b013e3182a2f881","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"31920781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The difference between SVA in zones I and II was found to be statistically significant (F=6.131, P=0.026), as were the differences between SVA and RGPCLVA (F=8.598, P=0.010). The scar size had no significant influence on RGPCLVA, SVA, or UCVA. Four participants (22.2%) were successfully fit. Dropout characteristics included ocular discomfort, inconvenience, parental apprehension, and low motivation.

Conclusions: Rigid gas permeable contact lens is an ideal method for evaluating visual potential in patients with traumatic corneal astigmatism. Methods: In this study, 39 eyes of 30 patients (11 men and 19 women) who had uneventful cataract surgery with phacoemulsification were evaluated preoperatively, and at 1 month postoperatively with the Galilei. We investigated the measurements including anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA), anterior chamber volume (ACV), central corneal thickness (CCT), and the 3-, 5-, and 7-mm corneal thickness (CT) preoperatively and postoperatively. Results: The differences between ACD (P=0.01), ACA (P=0.07), ACV (P=0.01), and 7-mm CT (P=0.01), and intraocular pressure (P=0.03) were statistically significant after the first month of phacoemulsification. However, the differences between CCT (P=0.60), 3-mm CT (P=0.75), and 5-mm (P=0.17) CT were not statistically significant. The details surrounding the switch from patching to optical penalization with contact lens were recorded along with related changes in compliance and any demonstrable effect suggestive of an improvement in visual ability.

Results: After an average 15-month delay between the end of occlusive patching and the start of optical penalization with high-plus contact lenses, 6 of 10 patients achieved good compliance with high-plus contact lens therapy and most families were able to successfully administer the lenses according to the prescribed regimen. Three patients showed evidence of a fixation switch to the contact-lens-corrected aphakic eye during optical penalization of the sound eye. No safety issues were reported.

Conclusion: Using a high-plus contact lens to optically penalize the sound eye of a unilaterally aphakic child seems to have the potential as an effective alternative to occlusive patching for those with compliance issues. A prospective study is warranted to assess long-term safety, and above all, efficacy in visual outcome.
","PeriodicalId":502139,"journal":{"name":"Eye & Contact Lens","volume":" ","pages":"405-9"},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/ICL.0b013e3182a27798","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40255386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
