The present report of the 2 clinical cases in the posterior maxilla is the first to describe clinical application of a customized 3D-printed polycaprolactone mesh for alveolar ridge augmentation. Two patients needing extensive ridge augmentation procedures for dental implant therapy were selected. Polycaprolactone meshes were virtually designed, 3D printed, and applied in combination with a xenogeneic bone substitute. Cone-beam computerized tomography was taken preoperatively, immediately after the surgery, and 1.5-2 years after the delivery of implant prostheses. The serial cone-beam computerized tomography images were superimposed to measure the augmented height and width at 1-mm increments from the implant platform to 3 mm apically. After 2 years, the mean [maximum, minimum] bone gain was 6.05 [8.64, 2.85] mm vertically and 7.77 [10.03, 6.18] mm horizontally at 1 mm below the implant platform. From immediately postoperative to 2 years, there was 14% reduction of augmented ridged height and 24% reduction of augmented width at 1 mm below the platform. All implants placed in augmented sites were successfully maintained until 2 years. The customized polycaprolactone mesh might be a viable material for ridge augmentation in the atrophic posterior maxilla. The pilot drill-guided group was determined to be the study group and included 12 implant applications. In this group, the pilot hole was drilled with navigation guidance, and the procedure was completed freehandedly. In the control group, all drilling and implant placement steps were performed using the navigation system, and a total of 12 implants were placed. The pre- and postoperative images were compared to calculate the magnitude of implant deviation. The quantitative data of the 2 groups were compared using the independent-samples t test and Mann-Whitney U test. The analyses revealed that the length of the procedure differed significantly between the 2 groups (P < .001). The procedure duration was significantly shorter in the study group. The entry deviation values of the 2 groups were not significantly different (P = .079). The analysis revealed the apex deviation to be higher in the study group than in the control group (P = .003). However, the 2-dimensional vertical apex deviation values of the implants were not significantly different between groups (P = .068). Angular deviation was determined to be significantly higher in the study group (P < .001). In the present study, all implants were successfully placed in the models using a dynamic navigation system. While it is a critical intervention in specific medical scenarios, its impact on neonatal gut microbiota (GM) has raised concerns. Infants born via CS bypass exposure to maternal vaginal and intestinal microbes, resulting in a distinct and often less diverse microbial composition compared to vaginally delivered infants. This disruption, exacerbated by prophylactic antibiotic use, has been linked to long-term health consequences, including an increased risk of immune-mediated disorders such as allergies and asthma, as well as metabolic conditions like obesity and type 2 diabetes. Breastfeeding, probiotics, and synbiotics have emerged as key interventions to mitigate microbial dysbiosis in CS-born infants. Breastfeeding supports GM by delivering human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) that promote beneficial bacteria, while probiotics and synbiotics restore microbial balance and diversity. Alternative strategies, such as vaginal seeding and targeted dietary modifications, have shown potential but require further research to confirm their efficacy and safety. This narrative review underscores the complex interplay between CS delivery, microbiota, and health, highlighting the need for evidence-based interventions. Through this analysis, this study aimed to compare the biomechanical behaviors of different designs and configurations of titanium (tapered or cylindric) and zirconia dental implants in the edentulous anterior maxilla. Three-dimensional models of the edentulous maxilla, dental implants, and prosthetic structures were modeled, and different loading conditions were applied to simulate realistic conditions. A total of 6 different models were evaluated: the model (M1) in which tapered implants were located bilaterally in the central canine, the model (M2) in which tapered implants were located bilaterally in the lateral canine, the model (M3) in which cylindric implants were located bilaterally in the central canine, the model (M4) in which cylindric implants were located bilaterally in the lateral canine, the model (M5) in which zirconia implants were located bilaterally in the central canine, and the model (M6) in which zirconia implants were located bilaterally in the lateral canine. Maximum tensile and compressive stress values were recorded at M4 under vertical loading and at M6 under oblique loading, whereas minimum stress values were recorded at M1 under all loading conditions. Maximum von Mises stress values under vertical and oblique loading conditions were observed at M3 and M4, while the minimum stress was observed at M1 and M2. Patients referred to the Center on Education and Research on Dental Implants from May 2017 to July 2018 with the indication for dental implant therapy, aged >18 years, without periodontal disease, recent evidence of inflammatory activity or other oral disorders, current pregnancy, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or heavy smoking habit were included in this study. After 12 weeks of healing since the implants were placed in the mandible and after 16 weeks following implants placed in the maxilla, patients returned to the Center for prosthetic rehabilitation. After implant therapy, all patients underwent periodical, clinical, and prosthetic examinations every 6 months. Prosthetic restorations involved 109 fixed reconstructions in function. Few prosthetic complications were reported (6.55%). Twenty implants were rehabilitated with cemented prostheses; from those, 1 crown suffered a loss in retention/decementation. Of the 148 implants rehabilitated with screwed-retained prostheses, 6.76% suffered prosthetic screw loosening. The cumulative implant survival rate was 98.2%. When peri-implant tissue health was evaluated, the keratinized mucosa band appeared related to peri-implant tissue stability.
