Addiction, in the form of substance abuse and behavioral addictions, has become a significant societal challenge with far-reaching consequences. The study aims to analyze the economic implications of addiction in India, taking into account its effect on healthcare costs, productivity, employment, crime rates, and social welfare expenditures. By employing a comprehensive review of existing literature, statistical data, and case studies, the research assesses the direct and indirect costs associated with addiction and provides insights into its macroeconomic ramifications. The findings highlight the alarming economic burden posed by addiction, emphasizing the need for effective prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation strategies. Understanding the economic dimensions of addiction can inform policymakers, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders in devising evidence-based policies and interventions to mitigate the adverse effects of addiction on the Indian economy and promote overall societal well-being. There is a need for more study because the evidence from Internet-based therapies, governmental efforts, and incentives is inconsistent. With the help of standardized intervention and outcome measurements, future research should concentrate on assessing the efficacy of certain intervention components. Adolescent drug addiction outcomes may be improved by a number of delivery methods, including digital platforms and legislative initiatives; however, they need more study.","PeriodicalId":500023,"journal":{"name":"International journal of social science and economic research","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135649127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study focuses on the financial decision-making among urban working women in India and Singapore in their households to understand what factors impact the power women have to make decisions in their households. To conduct this research, a survey was sent out to 37 women from an upper socio-economic background. 18 of these women reside in India, while 19 reside in Singapore. The survey included multiple questions, covering multiple types of potential financial decisions in a household, and included a Likert scale (1-5) to measure, in numerical values, the power each gender held in the decision-making. The results revealed that if education levels were equal in a household, both genders would have an equal say in the financial decisions that are made. Additionally, they explained that women in the workforce have more of a role in financial decision-making in their households, compared to women who are homemakers. The results also showed millennial women tend to give more responsibility to their husbands, compared to other age groups for decision-making, Lastly, it also highlighted that stereotypical gender-based role in financial decision-making in households still exists to date. Although Singapore seems to have more gender equality in financial decision-making in households than in India, there is still a need to enhance women’s agency and role in both countries for this specific context.","PeriodicalId":500023,"journal":{"name":"International journal of social science and economic research","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135649350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AI is a simulation of human intelligence by machines that has emerged as a solution to the technological shortcomings of different sectors of the economy. AI subfields, including machine learning, computer vision, and knowledge-based systems, are essential to improve the performance, capability, efficiency, and reliability of these sectors. In recent months, there has been a significant upsurge in the adoption of AI, particularly due to the availability of AI software like ChatGPT and Bard. While the current developments of AI are already quite profound, significant advancements are yet to come. This research paper proposes that AI will gradually become the dominant force driving human activities, transforming human life into a virtual world. This AI takeover will influence all aspects of life and business, from sources of income to modes of entertainment, transportation, and communication. This research paper aims to provide a comprehensive account of how AI currently affects and may affect the global economy. The surge in market values, with the NASDAQ and S&P increasing by 136% and 103% respectively from March 2020 to December 2021, created opportunities for previously unknown penny stocks to rise dramatically in value. This surge also led to the emergence of \"gurus\" and personalities in the social media market, attracting new and inexperienced investors. While these gurus appeared knowledgeable and successful due to their timely entry into the market and the overall bullish sentiment, their success was largely fueled by the market's euphoria rather than accurate predictions of undervalued stocks. Companies like Open door, Lemonade, Tilray, Peloton, and Tesla experienced significant value declines after the market sentiment shifted to fear, panic, and doubt in the summer of 2021, accompanied by increasing inflation, tightening interest rates, and geopolitical turmoil. The downfall of these influencers revealed the fallacy in their valuation models and predictions, as investors realized that their reasons for stock increases were not based on actual market drivers. However, it is important to note that these influencers were driven by naivete rather than ill-intent or malevolence. Their impact on the investing community was significant, fueling retail participation and bringing about unprecedented moments in the market. The subsequent bear market in 2022 served as a valuable lesson for many investors, emphasizing the importance of self-belief, due diligence, and the influence of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) on rational thinking and valuations.","PeriodicalId":500023,"journal":{"name":"International journal of social science and economic research","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135843424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some who have finished their studies, especially those with Bachelor’s degrees are working as ‘Ecokash’ or ‘Lumicash’ money and airtime transferring.
