An important decision in such a system is where to locate the locker box stations. Hence, we extend the vehicle routing problem with locker boxes to a location routing problem with multiple planning periods. In every period, decisions have to be made about which customers are served at home and which are served at locker boxes as well as how the used delivery locations are routed. On the other hand, the decision of which stations are opened is made only once. The objective function is minimizing total cost, which comprises travel costs, costs for compensating locker box customers, and site costs for realized stations. We provide a mixed integer programming formulation of the problem and propose a metaheuristic solution method. We use self-generated instances to compare the performance of the two approaches and can show that the metaheuristic method yields, on average, very good solutions – in most cases, the optimal solution – in a short computational time. We present and test different strategies for distributing the locker box stations, including based on customer clusters obtained by k-means, which works very well for a variety of geographic customer settings. Supply chain analytics (SCA), the application of big data analytics to supply chain management, can enhance and innovate supply chain processes and services in most companies. To reap such benefits, supply chain managers must overcome various obstacles, including the identification of appropriate methods, data, and application cases. The degree to which the potential value of SCA actually is being harnessed by practitioners remains uncertain. The study aims to synthesize scientific and practical perspectives regarding the SCA dimensions: goal and motivation, method, data, and application area. For this purpose the research applies a multi-vocal literature review (MLR) and a survey approach. The study reviews over 1481 publications and consults 278 respondents to reveal six different goals and seven motivations for SCA. Moreover, descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics and many different data types enabling SCA within different application areas are examined. While manual order picking is a laborious and cost-intensive task in warehousing, it is extensively examined in the logistics and supply chain management literature. However, the operational and individual performance of forklift operators in warehouse picking operations has received little attention yet. We aspire to close this gap by drawing on sociotechnical systems theory and formulate a multilevel approach to evaluate heterogeneity in human behavior towards differences in picking performance. We use batch execution times as the dependent variable and source level of operation, target level of operation, filling level of the palette, the necessity to correct replenishment quantities, as well as travel distance as independent variables on the first level. For the second level, we utilize forklift operators to quantify whether heterogeneity in human behavior is impacting the performance of forklift operators. We find that 15.1% of the variance among batch execution times results from heterogeneity in human behavior. In a further simulation, we show that this method can be used to assess the performance of order pickers through a multi-dimensional parametric production frontier analysis. Research paper also is aimed on distinguishing the further research steps. Research methodology focuses on the problematic of literature review in the conditions of coordination, distribution network central nodes, coordination mechanisms and occurring in the literature the phases connected with logistics coordination. Literature review allows to elaborate the logistics coordination concept in the distribution networks and sowing the further research steps in this area. Logistics coordination is occurred in the literature, but it is understood differently than following paper assumed. Author tried to define the logistics coordination and to distinguish the main elements which have influence on it. Among the most important elements which have influence of logistics coordination were mentioned factors as: actions of contemporary logistics operators, market, social and hierarchic mechanisms of network coordination, the opportunity of reaching by operators the function of demand management and possibility of usage the modern technical achievements connected with data interchange. Established elements of logistics coordination could help logistics operator in the tray of adaptation of this function in distribution networks. Among that function there worth be mentioned benefits like decreasing the stocks level, better resource and stocks allocation, reduction of logistics activity costs, increasing the customer satisfaction level, increasing the activities flexibility by coordination directed to material and information flows management. Additionally, the main distinguishing feature of this conception is the fact of logistics operator don’t have the direct revenues from sales, which could also reduce the possibility of unplanned promotional actions and its influence of whole network. These parcels are often unloaded manually, which is labor-intensive and physically demanding. In previous papers, we presented a novel semi-autonomous container unloading system and an estimation of the performance. In this paper we evaluate the proposed system. Tests are performed in a laboratory testbed with a container and different sized parcels. We use this testbed to record the times for individual tasks of the system as well as the acceleration of the parcels. For comparison, we test the acceleration in the manual and bulk unloading scenario. Following a line-by-line approach, the proposed system’s performance ranges from 261 to 3,014 parcels per hour, between manual and bulk performance. The throughput depends on the parcel’s size and is higher for small parcels. A sample of 32 decision-making units (DMUs), 17 globally operating original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and 15 key suppliers from the automotive industry, is in focus of this analysis in which cost levels and capital requirements are put into relation to sales growth and profit. Cost of goods sold, operating capital, and net fixed assets represent the financial input of a company while sales growth and earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) reflect the financial output. The financial performance of a firm is indicated by its efficiency, calculated by an input-oriented variable returns to scale model. A multiple linear regression analysis reveals which operational performance factors are predictors of financial performance. A longitudinal DEA approach that covers the years from 2003 to 2017 is chosen to reveal performance evolutions over time. In order to analyze the stability of relationships between efficient firms (peers) and inefficient ones (followers) over time, changes in the performance relationship network are assessed in a graph-theoretic approach. In this study, geographical and structural specifics of DMU groups are taken into account.
