Clinical and laboratory findings: Necropsy 28 examination revealed multiple white nodules of about 2 mm in diameter distributed on the visceral 29 lung surface of caudal lobes. Histopathology revealed lymphoplasmacytic interstitial pneumonia with 30 multiple coiled larvae of metastrongyloid nematodes in alveoli and bronchioles. Fecal postmortem 31 sample for Ritchie copromicroscopic technique allowed identification of first-stage Aelurostrongylus 32 abstrusus nematode. Conclusion: This study reports an incidental severe pulmonary parasitism 33 caused by A. abstrusus in a wild free-living tigrillo (L. tigrinus) from Colombia. Objective: To determine the degree of asynchrony in embryo development between cultured and in vivo embryos. Methods: A total of 55 non-lactating multiparous females were used. Embryos were classified as 16-cells or early morulae at 48 hours post-coitum (hpc). Embryos were cultured during 30 or 32 h and embryo development was compared with in vivo embryos of 72 hpc. In vitro and in vivo embryos at 72 hpc were classified as early or compacted morulae. Bayesian statistics was used. Difference between in vivo and in vitro embryos and the actual probability of the difference between the in vivo and in vitro embryo higher than zero (P) was estimated. Results: The percentage of compacted morulae was higher in in vivo embryos than in in vitro embryos with +6 h of asynchrony (73.5 and 32.8%, P=1.00). But the percentage of compacted morulae was similar with +8 h asynchrony. The OF allow an efficient and feasible 40 detection of diseases at lower cost at a herd level, with lower risk of stress for animals. Methods: Active surveillance strategy was 43 conducted in five selected swine farms with past records of respiratory disease. Swine OF were 44 collected for IAV testing. An OF sample was described as a pen-based specimen collected from a 45 group of >20 pigs per pen and/or per barn (if they were stall-housed individually but having close 46 contact between them). IAV infection was investigated in OF by rRT-PCR testing, and confirmed 47 by viral isolation in cell culture. Results: IAV detection was conducted in five purposively selected 48 farms between 2014-2017. We investigated a total of 18 respiratory disease outbreak events. From 49 the total 1444 OF samples tested, we found 107 (7.4%) positives to IAV by rRT-PCR. 50 Additionally, 9 IAV isolates were obtained, and all were further identified as H1 subtype. 51 Conclusions: Results of our study demonstrated how OF can be easily implemented as a novel, 52 user-friendly, welfare-friendly, accurate and cost-effective sampling method for active 53 surveillance and monitoring of IAV infections in swine farms in tropical settings. 54","PeriodicalId":49613,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana De Ciencias Pecuarias","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47857946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Elimination through vaginal secretions is well documented. However, there are no reports of the isolation and identification of C. abortus in the colostrum or milk of infected sheep, so it is important to determine whether or not the bacteria may be present in these secretions, which are the only food of lambs. Objective: Detect the presence of C. abortus in colostrum, milk and vaginal secretions of sheep with a history of reproductive 40 disorders. Methods: In order to isolate and identify C. abortus in these secretions, 41 colostrum, milk and vaginal exudate were collected from 66 sheep. The samples were 42 inoculated in mouse fibroblast cell cultures and the presence of the bacteria determined 43 by direct immunofluorescence. Results: 19 of 66 colostrum samples (28.7%), 14 of 66 44 milk samples (21.2%) and 17 of 66 vaginal swabs (25.7%) being positive. The 50 samples 45 positive for isolation and detected by immunofluorescence, together with 42 negative 46 ones, were subjected to qPCR to amplify a fragment of the omp A gene from C. abortus . 47 Thirty-eight of the 92 samples processed by this technique were positive for C. abortus . 48 Conclusion: The results of the present study demonstrated the presence of C. abortus in 49 a high proportion in colostrum, milk and vaginal secretions of infected sheep.
