Amongst these, root fractures are relatively uncommon but comprises about 0.5 to 7% of all injuries affecting permanent dentition. Most commonly, root fracture occurs from a horizontal impact mostly in oblique direction. The incidence is more common at the mid-third of the root rather at the apical and cervical thirds. Such hideous injury must be restored to normal as early as possible to retain the dental health and appearance. This report records the case of horizontal root fracture of upper anterior tooth, treated with Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) and fractured root fragments were unified with the aid of a stainless steel reamer after an endodontic treatment. Alloplastic bone graft and GTR membrane were used for osseous bone defect. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has several impending & forthcomin clinical applications owing to its grander sealing property and biocompatibility. A 12 months follow-up revealed a well stabilized assembly of the root fragments and periodontal healing.","PeriodicalId":495898,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of periodontology and implantology","volume":"300 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138996730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be attributed to the deficits in the health care system, especially in educating the public about periodontal diseases, and oral hygiene practices. This issue is more severe among people living in remote and rural areas where accessibility to dental health care education is difficult. This study aims to assess the oral hygiene practices, knowledge of periodontal diseases, and self-reported periodontal problems among adults visiting the tertiary dental care centre in Trivandrum, Kerala: This cross-sectional study employed a pretested and validated questionnaire to assess the three main constructs of periodontal knowledge, practices, and self-reported periodontal health issues among adults aged more than 18 years. All the patients who visited the outpatient department of periodontology at Government Dental College, who gave informed consent were administered the questionnaire.: Two hundred and twenty-nine study participants responded with a slight female gender predilection. 89.1% reported periodontal health problems. Good knowledge of periodontal diseases and oral hygiene practices was seen among 48.5% and 44.1% of the study respondents. Rural residents were found to be at a higher risk of poor periodontal knowledge and oral hygiene practices, and more self-reported periodontal health issues. The level of education also showed a significant association with periodontal knowledge and practices.: The findings of the study shed light on the need for devising effective educational interventions to improve the periodontal knowledge and practices of adults. Incorporating health promotional interventions into the clinical treatment regime, designing a hospital setting-based intervention with the help of house surgeons and post-graduates, and reinforcement of health education at regular intervals were a few recommendations to enhance the knowledge, practices and the oral health care seeking nature of general population.","PeriodicalId":495898,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of periodontology and implantology","volume":"6 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139000289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High prevalence of periodontal disease has an adverse effect on systemic health, mastication, and esthetics. There are many local and systemic factors that contribute to clinical manifestations of periodontal disease. The diagnosis is still based on conventional clinical examinations despite the high prevalence and greater understanding of the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. The term ‘metabolome’ was first coined by Steven Oliver and colleagues in the late 1990s which are active participants in metabolic reactions that are essential for normal physiological functions. GCF and saliva have been used for metabolomics based periodontal diagnosis: Mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy are the two main methods used to collect data on metabolomics. In a way that genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics could not fully utilize, metabolomics offers a special chance to affect discovery-driven science. The field of salivary research is one that is emerging, and it is hoped that the analysis of numerous protein metabolites will enlighten the mechanisms of periodontal disease development and focus attention on the functional relationships between metabolites whose expression varies over time in relation to diseases, medications, or other protein metabolites.","PeriodicalId":495898,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of periodontology and implantology","volume":"97 S10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138999376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the clinical features of this condition are easily recognizable, the precise etiology remains obscure. The disorder manifests in three forms, of which minor RAS are the commonest and heal within 10-14 days. Major RAS presents as larger, painful chronic ulcerations and heals with scarring in 6-8 weeks. A comprehensive medical history and a thorough systemic examination can aid the physician in determining whether the condition is idiopathic or linked to a underlying systemic disorder. The management of oral aphthous ulcers poses a significant challenge and there is no established and defined therapeutic regimen available for RAS. We present a case of major RAS in a 37-year-old patient who was unresponsive to topical and systemic steroid therapy. 5% Amlexenox paste and rebamipide tablets were used in the present case. The patient showed favourable healing within a week therapy with no recurrences during the 6-month follow up.","PeriodicalId":495898,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of periodontology and implantology","volume":"13 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139001056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditionally, many techniques and agents were used. The therapeutic outcome in treatment of intra bony defects can be augmented with the use of growth factors alongside bone grafts. The present clinical trial was designed to assess the efficacy of an alloplastic composite graft and the combination of autologous platelet rich fibrin with the graft in the management of intra bony defects. A total of 45 systemically healthy patients with intra bony defects indicated for flap surgery were selected from the outpatient department of periodontics. The patients were divided into three groups with the help of a computer generated random number table. Age, sex, and periodontal parameters (probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, gingival marginal level, plaque index, modified sulcus bleeding index) and presence of intra bony defects were recorded. The defects in group I patients were treated with autologous PRF along with the graft, group II with graft, and group III with open flap debridement alone. All the patients were recalled at 3, 6, 9 months after surgery, and the periodontal parameters were recorded in each recall. The baseline parameters were compared with 9 month post op periodontal parameters by non parametric test for ANOVA (Kruskal Wallis). Maximum pocket depth reduction (5.86±1.03) maximum gain in attachment (4.64± 1.08), reduction in modified sulcus bleeding index were seen in group I, which is statistically significant between the groups. Though change in gingival marginal level is minimum for group I (1.21± 0.42), it was not statistically significant. Group I showed the maximum percentage of sites with bone fill (92.9%) which was also statistically significant when analyzed by the chi-square test. The Combination of autologous PRF with the hydroxy apatite bioglass graft in the management of intra bony defects showed improved clinical and radiographic outcome.","PeriodicalId":495898,"journal":{"name":"IP international journal of periodontology and implantology","volume":"46 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138997431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An association between cardiovascular disease and periodontitis has been observed based on the current literature. The present case shows a rare finding of chronic periodontitis in a male patient as a result of an inflammatory disease of the blood vessel called Takayasu arteritis, which itself is a rare finding in a 31-year-old male patient.
