We study products of quadratic residues modulo odd primes and prove some identities involving quadratic residues. For instance, let p be an odd prime. We prove that if p ≡ 5 (mod 8) , then where (cid:0) · p (cid:1) is the Legendre symbol and r is the number of 4 th power residues modulo p in the interval (0 , p/ 2) . We study real Hopf hypersurfaces with Einstein–Weyl structures in the complex two-plane Grassmannian G 2 ( C m +2 ) , m ≥ 3 . First we prove that a real Hopf hypersurface with a closed Einstein–Weyl structure W = ( g, θ ) is of type (B) if ∇ ξ θ = 0 , where ξ denotes the Reeb vector field of the hypersurface. Next, for a Hopf hypersurface with non-vanishing geodesic Reeb flow, we prove that there does not exist an Einstein– Weyl structure W = ( g, kη ) , where k is a non-zero constant and η is a one-form dual to ξ . We study dynamical systems given by the action T : G × X → X of a finitely generated semigroup G with identity 1 on a compact metric space X by continuous selfmaps and with T (1 , − ) = id X . For any finite generating set G 1 of G containing 1 , the receptive topological entropy of G 1 (in the sense of Ghys et al. (1988) and Hofmann and Stoyanov (1995)) is shown to coincide with the limit of upper capacities of dynamically defined Carathéodory structures on X depending on G 1 , and a similar result holds true for the classical topological entropy when G is amenable. Moreover, the receptive topological entropy and the topological entropy of G 1 are lower bounded by respective generalizations of Katok’s δ -measure entropy, for δ ∈ (0 , 1) .
