Two research questions guided the study; descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 23000 academic staff of the public universities in South-East Nigeria. The sample comprised of 400 academic staff of the universities. The sample was composed using the simple random method. Data collected were analyzed using mean. Findings of the study showed that Nigeria university education contributes to capacity building through global practice on education con for all, provision of quality teaching infrastructure, access for students to ICT education, improved teaching methods, well equipped lecturers, proper management of universities, well-funded university research, properly motivated faculty; Nigeria university education contributes to social stability through skill and knowledge to navigate tensions, knowledge to avoid violence, help students build mental strength and resilience, help reduce child labor and early marriage, prevention of school-drop outs, help students navigate emotional and psychological trauma, help students navigate physical trauma, and help student make and become members of a peaceful society. The study concludes that Nigeria university education is contributing very little to human capacity building and development and as well social stability, this is linked to some intervening issues that has to do with peculiar issues with developing nations that could reduce the extent of social stability and human capacity development. The study therefore recommends that Nigeria government through the yearly budget address the insufficiency in Nigeria education system such as high rate of unemployment, illiteracy, ignorance, poor staff remuneration, poor infrastructure, poor education funding, strike actions that cripple education, political instability, poverty among others as a means to circumvent the issue of social stability and improve human capacity.","PeriodicalId":492165,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Contemporary Education and E-Learning","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141848557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A descriptive survey was the method employed for the research. The subjects of this study consisted of approximately 100 Ordinary level Mathematics teachers and ten Mathematics Head of Departments selected from 72 public high schools in Gutu district of Masvingo province in Zimbabwe. Purposive sampling was used for selecting ten participating Mathematics Head of Departments for qualitative data. Random sampling was used for selecting samples of teachers for quantitative research. Quantitative data analysis was done using two statistical metrics namely the mean and the standard deviation while qualitative data was analysed by thematic analysis. The empirical findings of the study indicated that challenges such as class size, planning, attitudes, heterogeneity, lack of confidence, and lack of proficiency among challenges that have a significant but negative influence on the application of dialogue and argumentation in the teaching of Ordinary level mathematics. The main study limitation was that the results may not be transferable nationally since the study was limited to schools in the Gutu district of Masvingo province in Zimbabwe. These results have implications on the need for mathematics teachers to receive training on how to plan and implement the dialogue and argumentation teaching approach in the mathematics classrooms.","PeriodicalId":492165,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Contemporary Education and E-Learning","volume":"13 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141853530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study adopted a pre-test, posttest and control design. Four research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The undergraduate Creative Thinking Questionnaire (UNCTQ) was employed in data collection. The instrument was developed by the researchers and it had two items bordering on creativity and critical thinking. It has a ceiling point of 100%. Undergraduates who scores less than 50% were selected through randomization for the study. The objective of selecting them was to teach them creative thinking skills. The UNCTQ was used at pre-test before the training exercise. UNCTQ-1 which was reshuffled after the six weeks training on creative thinking was the second instrument which served as a post-test instrument. The instrument was validated by specialists and was determined to have reliability coefficients of 0.71 and 0.80. Data collected was analyzed in two domains: Descriptive statistics was employed in answering the research questions whereas analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA) was employed in testing the hypotheses formulated. The study found that participants in convergent treatment group had improved achievement mean score at posttest assessment; those in divergent thinking treatment group improved and higher achievement mean score at posttest and that those in inspirational thinking skill group obtained a higher achievement mean score at posttest. The study therefore recommends as follows: that training in creative thinking be encouraged in all tiers of education in Nigeria, using the techniques of convergent, divergent and inspirational thinking skills etc.","PeriodicalId":492165,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Contemporary Education and E-Learning","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141853356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted at Dar es Salaam Region. Purposive and convenient sampling strategies were used to sample the respondents. The study involved a total of 49 respondents including 7 principals and 42 tutors. The data were collected through interview, focus group discussion, observation and documentary review. The major findings revealed that principals perceived the appraisal as potential since helped them to monitor tutors, conversely, tutors perceived the appraisal as useless since they are practiced in a bias basis. Also, many tutors indicated unawareness about strategies used to appraise them. It was further found that the principals and tutors have never attended any training concerning performance appraisal.  From the findings, the study recommended that the government through the ministry of education has to formulate a specific policy to govern and enforce the colleges’ directors and principals on appropriate proceedings to appraise tutors’ work performance in private teachers’ colleges.","PeriodicalId":492165,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Contemporary Education and E-Learning","volume":"26 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141041455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prompted by concerns with the frequency of plagiarism, this investigation examined undergraduate students' perceptions of academic misconduct, forms of plagiarism, and the underlying causes of plagiarism among first- and second-year biology and chemistry majors at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen campus in 2018. The paper also presents students’ recommendations on how to best address the issue in the program. Although the findings of this study cannot be generalised, it was found that more than 90% of students who participated were acquainted with the interpretation of the terms academic misconduct and plagiarism but still plagiarized. Interestingly, the most prevalent form of plagiarism was found to be substituting the author's words with synonyms while maintaining the overall organization and meaning of the original work, and the most common cause of plagiarism was determined to be heavy assessment workload. According to this survey, students favoured penalties over grade loss when it came to avoiding plagiarism. Ultimately, the results reveal how conscious students are of academic integrity and strategies that could lower the quantity of plagiarism cases at the institution.","PeriodicalId":492165,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Contemporary Education and E-Learning","volume":"54 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141036689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ensuring children have a solid foundation in basic number skills before delving into more advanced mathematical concepts is crucial for their academic development. This study focused on evaluating the readiness of Grade 1 students at St. Paul University Surigao in terms of their number knowledge. This involved 24 Grade 1 students and utilized a pretest-post-test design, using a School Readiness Test (SRT) to assess their number knowledge readiness. Data analysis included frequency count and percentage distributions, and paired t-test. The results indicated a significant improvement in the students' number knowledge readiness following the teaching and learning activities, suggesting that these interventions were effective. Furthermore, the study found that factors such as sex and previous school attended did not influence the students' readiness in number knowledge. It is recommended that the school continues implementing activities that enhance students' performance in this area.","PeriodicalId":492165,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Contemporary Education and E-Learning","volume":"12 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141042644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researcher utilized a quantitative design using a descriptive-correlational approach to examine factors like compatibility, simplicity, trialability, observability, relative advantage, cost, and behavioral intention in relation to blended learning adoption.  A simple random sampling technique was utilized to gather 180 respondents. The study reveals a high level of adoption of innovation, the blended learning rotation model with the three main factors: compatibility, observability, and relative advantage. Users who are to adopt this innovation align well with the existing values and needs if they can see the benefits of using it and perceive it as superior to alternatives. On the other hand, factors such as simplicity and trialability do not seem to have a significant relationship with the adoption of blended learning using the rotation model. Addressing concerns related to cost is paramount to ensure widespread adoption. The findings highlight the relevance of considering these key factors when presenting innovations in educational settings. It proposed that efforts should be focused on ensuring that the innovation adopted is compatible with users’ needs, its benefits are visible, and it is perceived as advantageous compared to other options. This could involve training and support to help students and teachers understand the benefits and how to use the innovation effectively.","PeriodicalId":492165,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Contemporary Education and E-Learning","volume":"26 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141023995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
