While disadvantage and discrimination are often associated with the intersection of culture, gender, disability, and socioeconomic disadvantage, it is only when these factors are explored together that clinicians can really understand what people need to recover and thrive following acquired brain injury. In this article, we challenge speech-language pathologists to examine their own practices, to look beyond Western models of health and constraints of many current institutional models of care and ways of framing research, to acknowledge historical and ongoing colonizing influences, and to engage with community-led solutions. As the U.S. population progressively becomes more ethnoracially diverse and older, growing vulnerable ethnogeriatric groups of older individuals with contrasting ethnic/racial and social histories are estimated to experience age-related cardiovascular complications with resulting chronic disabilities, such as post-stroke aphasia. Grounded in principles of equity and social justice, transformative health care approaches use input from marginalized communities to inform service strategies to minimize health disparities. This article discusses the population scenario, principles, and possible strategies to support the call for stakeholder-informed intervention toward the social reintegration of ethnosocially mixed geriatric populations with aphasia in the United States. Based on the principles from the <i>Life Participation Approach to Aphasia</i> (LPAA) and intersectional narratives, we discuss how client and caregiver stories can inform culturally authentic individualized aphasia intervention for social readaptation. Differences in aphasia outcomes are influenced by the social determinants of health (SDOH). The SDOH are structural, environmental, and personal determinants that influence health outcomes. Intersectionality, or how one's social and political identities interact to influence individual life outcomes and/or advantage in our society, provides a way to examine the varying levels of the SDOH. However, intersectionality is complex, difficult to measure, and has not yet been explored in post-stroke aphasia outcomes. This article reviews the relationship of race and aphasia outcomes and the SDOH and aphasia outcomes. Additionally, we provide a novel current approach to examine the SDOH and aphasia outcomes. Lastly, we discuss the need for evaluation of intersectionality in aphasia and aim to provide a leveled social-ecological framework to examine aphasia-related outcomes. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), however, may sometimes wonder how or whether to address emotional responses. The purpose of this article was to (1) present a framework that clinicians can use to understand individualized emotional responses in aphasia and (2) discuss examples of how the framework informs practical strategies that SLPs can use to provide emotional support to people with aphasia (PWA). Drawing upon a cognitive-motivational-relational theory of emotions perspective combined with emerging research in aphasia, I show that emotion impacts and is impacted by both language processing and social participation, but this impact should be interpreted in light of individual variability. Personal characteristics, environmental conditions, and cognitive appraisal, considered within a specific cultural context, help account for individualized emotional responses. SLPs should consider interactions among emotional response, language processing, and social participation in aphasia while recognizing each person's unique perception of the situation and resources to cope with it. Additionally, the presented framework provides insights about how SLPs could offer emotional support to PWA. However, there is no current method of assessment for evaluating social communication dysfunction in individuals with PD. The aim of this study was to develop a self-report questionnaire for individuals with PD to identify their social communication skills, and further recognize the impact of PD on social communication. Fifty-one individuals with Parkinson's disease answered 28 survey questions. These questions pertained to emotional expression and perception, social communication, sarcasm/humor, and pragmatic skills. Exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted to identify items loading onto the factors and to check the internal consistency of the items. Individuals with PD reported changes in emotional expression and perception, social communication, sarcasm and humor, and pragmatic skill domains post-PD diagnosis. No correlations were found between age or time since diagnosis and emotional expression, social communication, sarcasm, and humor. This study provides self-reported evidence that individuals with PD experience social communication challenges. Twenty-three children with typical development, seven children with developmental language disorder, and eight children with Down syndrome participated in Studies 1, 2, and 3, respectively. They were taught novel, intransitive verbs using syntactic, semantic, and combined cues and then asked to receptively identify and expressively label the novel verbs. Across all conditions, participants learned novel verbs receptively with large effect sizes and participants with typical development and Down syndrome also learned the verbs expressively with large effect sizes. There were no significant differences between conditions. This study extends word-learning research by evaluating not only receptive but also expressive intransitive verb learning to expand one's vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to gain insight into the experiences of students who engaged in laboratory coursework using a virtual dissection (VD) table as part of an undergraduate course in anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing. Undergraduate students enrolled in an anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing course at a single university for the fall 2021 semester consented to participate. Nine students, divided into two focus groups, were encouraged to describe their experiences and perspectives about the VD table and corresponding laboratory assignments. Following verbatim transcription of the data, the authors conducted a thematic analysis. Five themes emerged from the body of data: (1) <i>using the VD table</i>, (2) <i>completing the VD lab assignments</i>, (3) <i>preparation for laboratory sessions</i>, (4) <i>suggested modifications</i>, and (5) <i>enriched learning.</i> Students believed using the VD table aided in a better understanding of course material than traditional methods. The present study aims to trans-adapt the DHI in the Telugu language and assesses its psychometric properties. The present study was conducted in two phases. The first phase includes translating and adapting the DHI tool into Telugu (T-DHI). The second phase includes an analysis of the psychometric properties of the trans-adapted Telugu version of the DHI. The DHI was translated into the Telugu language using the forward-backward translation method. The psychometric analysis was done on 100 participants. All the participants underwent a detailed clinical swallow examination after filling the T-DHI. The overall internal consistency and Guttmann split-half reliability for the Telugu version of the DHI were good. The correlation between the T-DHI subscales and the self-perceived severity of dysphagia was found to be high. The comparison of the T-DHI scores of the control and experimental groups revealed a significant difference.
