However, understanding the real influences of cost modelling for accurate project costing and cost performance remains limited. Consequently, this systematic literature review aims to identify the key parameters associated with effective cost modelling in OSC systems. Using literature in the last 10 years (i.e. 2011–2021) and keyword search terms, the review covers OSC aspects such as cost modelling and models, life cycle costing, cost analysis and taking off. Knowledge gaps are identified within literature and practice in cost modelling despite a backdrop of a proliferation of OSC systems and concomitant literature. Emergent findings uncover thematic clusters in analysed literature with the role of design, 88%, costs, 69% and modelling, 74% dominating the literature reviewed. Moreover, key influences to cost modelling in OSC (e.g. abnormal costs, factory-based preliminaries, and contractor’s overheads) do not feature prominently in any published research. This paper provides a cross-sectional snapshot of contemporary developments in the field and highlights the need for new research to support integrated cost modelling to support current OSC practice.","PeriodicalId":48523,"journal":{"name":"Architectural Engineering and Design Management","volume":"7 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134992004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nonetheless, there has been limited research on incorporating modern design and manufacturing technologies into spherical domes, especially those made of bio-based materials. This paper presents a comprehensive study of the design pipeline for spherical domes. In terms of spherical tessellation for dome design, a set of innovative algorithms and programs is made available as open-source resources, comprising both manual and numerical approaches, where the numerical approaches are validated by existing results while also expanding these results, and new manual approaches are proposed and benchmarked as alternatives to conventional methods with similar or better performance, condition-wise. A proof-of-concept prototype is constructed according to the proposed pipeline to demonstrate its feasibility for later experiments. A preliminary loading test was conducted, validating its satisfactory mechanical behavior. In summary, a comprehensive design pipeline for spherical domes is proposed and validated through a prototype project, during which various innovations are made, from spherical tessellation to parametrical design, analysis, and digital twin manufacturing.KEYWORDS: Spherical tessellationbio-based dome structureparametric modelingdigital twinrobotic manufacturingglubam structure AcknowledgmentsWe appreciate the support of UIUC-ZJU Joint Research Center for Infrastructure Resilience in Cities as Livable Environments (UIUC-ZJUI-CIRCLE). To improve BIM data interoperability, Industry Foundation Class (IFC) was proposed. However, the IFC instance data usually exceeds megabytes, and the logical relationship of the data is complex and changeable. Therefore, how to further enhance the usability of IFC instance data will become very important. To this end, this paper proposes a data deconstruction model ‘Topological Induction Model (TIM)’, which deconstructs the IFC instance data into a network structure ‘Topological Induction Network (TIN)’. Through the analysis and operation of TIN, more effective utilization of IFC instance data can be realized. Based on TIN, the skeleton structure, citation structure and corresponding acquisition algorithm of IFC instance data are discussed, and the hierarchical characteristic, internal aggregation characteristic and data similarity of data topology are found. Subsequently, the working performance of TIM (TIN) is evaluated and compared with existing data deconstruction strategies. The results show that the overall performance of TIM (TIN) is better than traditional methods. Finally, we show how TIM (TIN) can be used in a graph database to enhance the usability of IFC instance data.KEYWORDS: Building information model (BIM)civil engineeringindustry foundation classes (IFC)graph databasecomplex network Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Data availability statementSome or all data, models, or code that support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.Additional informationFundingThis research was financially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China [rant No. 52130807], Changjiang Scholar Program of Chinese Ministry of Education, Science Xplore Prize Award. The flow of information between different research teams makes scientific research and its places increasingly social, which is no longer limited to the closed laboratory workbench. Reviewing the literature, we found that the development of scientific research buildings experienced a transition from efficiency to openness. And the new organization of research communities and its demand for space put forward higher requirements for scientific research buildings. To deeply explore the design trends of scientific research buildings at this stage, the sample database is established using space syntax and K-means clustering algorithm software to quantitatively analyze spatial layouts of 42 scientific research buildings worldwide from the perspective of sociology and innovation, clustered into five categories. Each category shows a different tendency in terms of accessibility, visibility, and the proportion of public space, and the different spatial configurations and openness somehow reflect the attitude of the research organization or group towards the use of space.KEYWORDS: Scientific research buildingsspace syntaxspatial configurationclustering algorithm Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).","PeriodicalId":48523,"journal":{"name":"Architectural Engineering and Design Management","volume":"15 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135589917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
