A quantitative experimental study with a pretest-posttest single-group design was conducted, where 143 first-year undergraduate nursing students (n = 143) participated in a simulation program focusing on spiritual care. The response rate was 49.5%, calculated as the number of students who completed the questionnaire (143) divided by the total number of students approached (289). The pretest and posttest were conducted one month apart. The Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale (SSCRS-Sp) was used to assess changes in students' spiritual competencies before and after the simulation. Results indicated significant improvements in students' perceptions of spiritual care, suggesting that simulation is an effective method for enhancing spiritual competencies.</p>","PeriodicalId":48054,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion & Health","volume":" ","pages":"860-881"},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11950070/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143634588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"哲学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our previous study found Muslim psychiatric inpatients encounter significant obstacles that hinder their ability to engage in a formal prayer practice in the hospital. To address this gap, we aimed to develop a spirituality and religious needs inventory specifically for Muslim psychiatric inpatients. Findings from our previous study informed the construction of the inventory items. The developed inventory underwent rigorous validation, including expert appraisal, factor analysis, and reliability testing. The results indicate that our Islamic Spirituality and Religious Needs Inventory possesses robust validity and reliability metrics. We recommend that healthcare professionals employ this inventory as a resource for bedside evaluations and a foundation for future research endeavors within spiritual care for Muslim inpatients.</p>","PeriodicalId":48054,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion & Health","volume":" ","pages":"1569-1585"},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142972805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"哲学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It encompasses dimensions such as quantity, style, purpose, and target. This research aimed to develop reliable measures of duâ for Pakistani Muslim adults using a mixed- method exploratory sequential design across two studies. Study 1 was conducted in three phases. In Phase 1, thematic analysis was conducted using qualitative methods such as focus group discussions, semi-structured interviews, and insights from pertinent theoretical framework. This analysis identified seven themes for duâ, aligning with existing literature on prayer experiences. Based on these themes, an initial set of 70 items for the duâ scale (DS) was developed. Phase 2 focused on translating and cross-validating the Prayer Importance Scale, Tatmainn al-Qulūb Scale, and Brief Trust vs. Mistrust in God Scale. In Phase 3, the content-validated item pool of 67 items was administered to a large sample of Pakistani Muslim adults (N = 461) and analyzed through exploratory factor analysis (EFA). EFA revealed 7-factor structure factor loading (with item loading .49 to .87) of the DS containing 40 items with a cumulative variance of 61.10%. Factors including prayer quantity (3 items); free prayer style (5 items); bounded prayer style (8 items); outward prayer purpose (7 items); inward prayer purpose (5 items); engaged prayer target (7 items) and distant prayer target (5 items). Duâ showed a significant positive correlation with centrality of religiosity, importance of prayer, and trust in God, and a non-significant correlation with mistrust in God, supporting the convergent and discriminant validity of the DS. In the second study (N = 703), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirmed the scale's structure, matching the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with 40 items and 7 subscales. In the final measurement model, all constructs had an average variance extracted (AVE) greater than .50, and maximum shared variance (MSV) values were lower than the AVE. The diagonal values of the square root of the AVE exceeded the intercorrelations, confirming the DS as a reliable and valid measure of duâ. Evidence for the measurement invariance of DS suggested its consistency and comparability across Sunni and Non-Sunni Muslims. Further research is recommended to explore its application across different religious sects and ethnic groups globally.</p>","PeriodicalId":48054,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion & Health","volume":" ","pages":"1521-1568"},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143400289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"哲学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spirituality has received less attention as compared to the vast knowledge of literature shared on psychosocial issues of infertility. This study examined the role of spirituality as a coping strategy in overcoming stressors associated with infertility. A scoping review was conducted using the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, Google Scholar, EBSCOhost, Medline, Pro Quest, and Science Direct. The screening of titles, abstracts, and full text was done using searches such as spirituality, coping strategy, infertility, couple, individual, and women. A systematic review (PRISMA) and qualitative studies (COREQ guidelines) tools were adapted to ensure methodological quality. Finally, retrieved data were extracted: authors, year, country, aim of study, study design and sample characteristics, and major findings. Strong spiritual connection, spiritual support, and forgiveness helped couples and individuals living with infertility cope better despite the enormous psychosocial stressors encountered. The findings of the study revealed that couples and individuals who employed spirituality as a coping strategy had improved quality of life, increased hope, experienced enhanced well-being, reduced emotional stressors, and further increased success rate in treatment.</p>","PeriodicalId":48054,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion & Health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2025-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143755087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"哲学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since their lifestyle, which rests on the strict interpretation of religious sources, sets them as a cultural minority within the dominant secular culture of modern Israeli society, addressing mental health within this group requires tailored approaches that consider the community's values and lifestyle, as well as the distinct social and political dynamics between secular therapists and Haredi clients. However, while Haredi's unique position often becomes a source of tension in Israeli politics and society, it also affects therapeutic encounters between ultra-orthodox clients and secular therapists, as this unique dynamic between religious and secular cultures can lead to ambivalent attitudes toward each other. This study was designed to examine the unique experiences of secular therapists in providing mental health treatment to the ultra-orthodox sector in Israel in the current social-political situation. Twenty-one qualitative semi-structured interviews conducted with secular psychologists and art therapists regarding their experiences with working with ultra-religious clients identified three main themes: (1) a feeling of an outsider, (2) colliding viewpoints, and (3) sameness. While interpretative phenomenological approach was used, the interviews were analysed using thematic analysis based on Colaizzi's approach. These themes highlight the ambivalent experience and illuminate this captivating intersection of therapy, religion, and society. Public workplaces should consider enabling intercultural therapies, acknowledging their benefits and challenges.</p>","PeriodicalId":48054,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion & Health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2025-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143755092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"哲学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This descriptive and correlational study included 480 patients who were admitted to the pulmonology outpatient clinics of a public hospital with a diagnosis of COPD between November 1, 2023, and April 31, 2024. The study data were collected using the Patient Diagnosis Form, Dyspnea Fear Level Assessment Form, Spiritual Care Needs Inventory, and Templer Death Anxiety Scale. It was determined that 60.8% of the patients had high death anxiety and moderate spiritual care needs. A positive correlation (r = 0.327; p < 0.01) was found between the mean scores of the Spiritual Care Needs Inventory and the Templer Death Anxiety Scale. Patients with high death anxiety also had high spiritual care needs (p < 0.01). It was determined that the gender of the patients, fear of dyspnea, and death anxiety predicted 20% of the need for spiritual care (R = 0.457, R2 = 0.209, F = 17.800, p < 0.001). Considering the study findings, it can be stated that death anxiety may decrease as the spiritual needs of the patients are met.
