Method: This scoping review covering a total of 44 articles examined the characteristics of publications, the purposes for the use of simulations, the simulated roles, the targets of simulations, the theories referred to and key findings/assertions. Results: The scoping review found a heavy North American concentration. Live actor simulations were mostly used for the teaching of practice competencies covering a range of practice skills and settings, with a notable focus on clinical skills and minimal engagement with theory. Discussion: It is argued that the use of simulation-based learning should be informed by a range of practical, theoretical, and philosophical considerations, including the purpose of social work and social work education.","PeriodicalId":47993,"journal":{"name":"Research on Social Work Practice","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143757732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: An online survey was used to collect data from a sample of 481 licensed Spanish social workers from different intervention areas. Results: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses support the validity of the CDHTS-25, with adequate fit indexes and reliability. The validation of the CDHTS-8 exhibited internal consistency, good test–retest reliability, and the scale was significantly related to measures of social justice and human values. Discussion: The CDHTS-25 and the CDHTS-8 have direct applicability to social work practice and allows to measure the level of engagement with human rights in social workers.","PeriodicalId":47993,"journal":{"name":"Research on Social Work Practice","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143757736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given the growing concern of firearm violence, standardized assessment tools addressing firearm risks could improve social workers’ assessments. Method: This rapid review identifies and evaluates available clinical assessment tools that include items related to firearms. Result: After searching five electronic databases, 15 assessment measures were identified and categorized into five domains: aggressive and violent behaviors, delinquent behaviors, familial attitudes and beliefs, dating or partner violence, and suicide. Discussion: The review highlights the limitations of current tools and underscores the importance of standardized assessments in providing social workers with validated frameworks to inform clinical decision making, while also calling for the development of more comprehensive, culturally informed measures. The review concludes with recommendations and suggestions for incorporating antiracist practices and cultural humility into clinical practice to address firearm-related risks and enhance safety.","PeriodicalId":47993,"journal":{"name":"Research on Social Work Practice","volume":"66 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2025-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143734065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: It reviews the empirical literature of ten regulated professions, discussing individual, institutional, and community-level determinants of exam outcomes. Results: All 10 reviewed professions report significant racial disparities in exam outcomes. The groups more likely to pass licensing exams include examinees who (a) are younger, maintain high GPAs, excel on admission tests, promptly take exams, and dedicate ample study time; (b) attend institutions with selective admissions, strong faculty, and well-resourced programs; and (c) reside in socioeconomically integrated communities. Although historically marginalized groups face greater adverse impacts from individual, institutional, and community factors, the net effect of race on exam passage diminishes when these adverse effects are controlled for. Conclusions: The social work profession needs similar evidence on its licensing exam disparities to inform effective interventions.","PeriodicalId":47993,"journal":{"name":"Research on Social Work Practice","volume":"215 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2025-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143702747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This systematic review examines how AI is applied in social work case management. Method: A comprehensive search was conducted across databases for studies published after 2000. Empirical studies on AI-assisted social work case management were included in the review. Results : From 11,022 identified studies, eight met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed. The results indicated that the most commonly used AI techniques were machine learning and natural language processing. They were utilized in decision-making procedures, client identification, intervention classification, risk prevention, and service monitoring. Seven studies demonstrated effective outcomes. Discussion : Though AI applications in social work case management remain in the early development stages, this review reveals growing interest and promising potential benefits. These findings contribute to advancing AI-assisted social work case management on a global scale.","PeriodicalId":47993,"journal":{"name":"Research on Social Work Practice","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2025-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143672510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Freshmen were randomly assigned to SCBC, CBT or a PC group. Interventions included a 90-min session and a 7-day self-guided task. Assessments occurred at five time points: Preintervention (T1), postclass (T2), postintervention (T3), and at one-month (T4) and three-month (T5) follow-ups. Results: Both SCBC and CBT improved mental health. SCBC showed significantly greater self-efficacy gains at T4, while CBT demonstrated greater adjustability improvement at T2. Other differences were nonsignificant. Conclusion: SCBC and CBT positively impacted freshmen's mental health. The observed differences may stem from the distinct characteristics of SCBC and CBT. These findings can inform social workers in designing targeted mental health programs for college students.","PeriodicalId":47993,"journal":{"name":"Research on Social Work Practice","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2025-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143640151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
