A pregnancy-information form, and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale and Prenatal Attachment Inventory were used to collect data from the pregnant women. There was a weak, positive, and significant relationship between prenatal attachment and dyadic adjustment. However, this study showed that pregnant women had a high dyadic adjustment and prenatal attachment. Also, it presented the need for improving dyadic adjustment to enhance prenatal attachment among pregnant women.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45139685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dealing with the psychological impacts of Covid-19, including depression, anxiety, and stress, can negatively impact one’s relational experience, potentially lowering relationship satisfaction. This study aims to understand how distress caused by Covid-19 is related to relationship satisfaction and investigate the mediating role of dyadic coping. Using a sample of 233 individuals residing in Turkey who self-identified as being in a romantic relationship, this study found that the Covid-19 distress was negatively linked with relationship satisfaction, and individual’s perception of dyadic coping mediated such relationship. Theoretical and clinical implications are discussed.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42941197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We explored factors related to the onset of bullying victimization, family factors, intervention, and therapy outcome. Findings are as follows. First, the onset-related factors included hygiene issues and hostile teachers. Second, family factors were prenatal stressors, lack of affection, communication patterns, parenting practices, and transference. Third, interventions included promoting insight and coaching communication styles. Fourth, families showed cognitive and behavioral changes. Fifth, adolescents better adjusted to school. Findings suggest therapists counseling bullying victims explore family factors and help initiate changes in communication and parenting.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47086504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article discusses a specific example of misinformation, i.e., variations of the statement: Parental alienation theory assumes that the favored parent has caused parental alienation in the child simply because the child refuses to have a relationship with the rejected parent, without identifying or proving alienating behaviors by the preferred parent. This is an unusual phenomenon, i.e., the same misinformation was found in journal articles, books, and presentations by critics of parental alienation 40 times between 1994 and 2020. This trail of recurrent misinformation is not trivial; it is a major misrepresentation of basic tenets of parental alienation theory. The article concludes with action items, including the proposal that these false statements should be corrected and/or the journal articles should be withdrawn from publication.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45253465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the dominant social discourse, students encountering school attendance problems are often considered either psychologically dysfunctional or socially deviant, and their parents are viewed as incompetent or irresponsible. With the concrete case example, this paper illustrates how narrative therapy provides a space for students’ voices and critical perspectives. It also helps families resist and renegotiate the oppressive meritocratic ideology promoted in the education system and in society. Integration of the systemic and the narrative approaches in the practice is also discussed.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45151538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twelve women included in the study participated in 3-h psychodrama group therapy sessions once per week for 10 weeks. In-depth interviews were assessed according to Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. Results from the analyses revealed three themes: 1) negative experiences, 2) change, and 3) hope for future. These themes should be taken into account in mental support services for women suffering from infertility. Women experiencing infertility difficulties should direct their attention to social roles other than motherhood.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43751811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Findings showed a significant (p<0.01) negative correlation between interpersonal dependency and emotionality and marital satisfaction. Also, honesty and conscientiousness positively (p ≤ 0.01) correlated with marital satisfaction.
