This descriptive study was carried out within special education and rehabilitation centers between the dates of October, 2017 and July, 2018. The sample of the study consisted of 518 parents. Data regarding the study were collected using the \"Family Burden Assessment Scale\" and \"WHOQOL-BREF-TR Scale\". A negative moderate and significant relationship has been detected between the physical domain and FBAS scores of the parents subjected while a negative strong and significant relationship was detected in the spiritual, social and environmental domains. It has been concluded that the quality of life has decreased as the family burden of the parents increased. The mechanisms of self-disclosure, self-concealment, and attitudes about therapy are analyzed as mediators through path modeling analysis. Results indicated significant indirect effects through self-disclosure and attitudes about therapy for seeking both online and face-to-face therapy. There was a significant indirect effect through self-concealment for intending to seek face-to-face therapy, but not for online therapy. Clinicians should find ways to normalize seeking therapy for relationship issues and be cognizant of how private stigma may impact their work with couples.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/01926187.2021.1942315","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45330079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taking into consideration the growing number of adoptions in the United States (UN DESA), there is a prevalent need for a systemic approach to working with these families. This article addresses the societal need by offering Restoration Therapy as a framework for effectively assisting adoptive families in adjusting to their newly formed unit. The authors provide a brief overview of Restoration Therapy, the justification for using it with adoptive families, and a case vignette to exemplify the model.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/01926187.2021.1930606","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48785456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample comprised of 161 Turkish married heterosexual couples. The Common Fate Model (CFM) analysis revealed that four of the five components of love language had a mediating role. Differentiation of self positively predicted marital satisfaction and indirectly affected marital satisfaction through physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, and receiving gifts. The findings were discussed for family therapists and cross-cultural researchers aiming to promote better marital satisfaction based on differentiation of self and love language.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/01926187.2021.1930607","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44814282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generalized ordinary logistic regression is applied to the 2015 National Multicultural Family Survey. The results reveal that loneliness and family conflicts have negative effects on psychological adaptation while social supports result in positive effects. Participation in gatherings with Koreans and Korean language proficiency work positively for psychological adaptation, while residence period and cultural differences have negative effects. Discrimination is also negatively associated with psychological adaptation.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/01926187.2021.1934752","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48352243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper displays how The Tadros Theory of Change can be utilized to work with incarcerated individuals and their families. The Tadros Theory is an integrative family therapy theory comprised of a structural conceptualization of rules, roles, boundaries, and structure with narrative methods of empowerment, solution-focused goal-orientation, cultural humility, and a strengths-based approach. The Tadros Theory empowers and aids in identifying clients’ positive strengths and resiliency factors. This paper adds to the literature on this theory by introducing the consideration of trauma and substance use which are both extremely prevalent when working with this population. A case application showcases that this theory can be used with an incarcerated father and his non-incarcerated partner. Barriers, clinical implications, and future directions are discussed.","PeriodicalId":47263,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Family Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/01926187.2021.1929560","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49573590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
