When the wheel polygonalization appears on the worn-type wheel tread of the high-speed trains, the lateral and longitudinal relative wheel/rail curvature around the contact patch will vary with the change of wheel circumferential position. In such a case, the commonly used Hertzian contact method cannot meet the calculation precision, while even the non-Hertzian method has relatively high precision, but its calculation efficiency cannot meet the demand of engineering application. A non-Hertzian method was introduced to analyze the influence of the wheel polygonalization on the contact patch. By studying the shape and the pressure distribution of the contact patches at different contact positions, it is found that when the wavelength of the wheel polygonalization is larger than 65 mm, the results of the improved semi-Hertzian method can agree well with the non-Hertzian method with reasonable computing time. Railway safety is a broad research field with high research activity. Computer-assisted techniques such as bibliometric analysis could be used to study the thematic evolution and intellectual structure of such high-activity research fields. This study aims to identify recent advances in railway safety research and suggest future research directions. We first set out to identify the themes that define railway safety research through science mapping. Using citation count and PageRank of articles, the most prestigious articles published within the last decade were identified for content analysis. Studies on artificial intelligence applications to railway safety, particularly in hazard identification, infrastructure and equipment control, and condition monitoring, have gained traction in recent years. The security and safety of proposed cyber-physical systems for railway applications have been widely studied. Studies on next-level train control systems such as ETCS-3 and CTCS-4 have focused on satellite-based train localization and 5G technology (and beyond) for railway communication systems. Research on human reliability in railway operations and management has also received considerable attention from researchers. However, little consideration is given to addressing issues related to the reliability of expert judgments–a key instrument in practical railway safety assessment. Understanding their bonding behavior, mechanism, and characterization is imperative for enhancing pavement performance, durability, and sustainability. Despite the widespread use of bituminous materials, challenges persist in optimizing their physical, rheological, and mechanical properties, addressing aging effects, and developing eco-friendly alternatives. The modification can be made by incorporating modifiers or additives, such as anti-stripping agents, surfactants, and bonding promoters, at their optimal dosages. Technically, the cohesion and adhesion bonds could be reinforced by adding a designated percentage of additives to the asphalt binder and within the asphalt-aggregate interfaces in asphalt mixtures. Prior to improving the pavement materials for road construction, adhesion and wetting properties also need to be given crucial attention. The inter-surface characteristics and their morphological behavior significantly influence the adhesion and cohesion bonding within binder-aggregate matrices, as indicated by the good correlations in both dry and wet conditions between failure pattern and bond strength. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in bituminous material research, emphasizing innovative approaches to enhance performance, durability, and environmental compatibility, providing insights for future advancements in asphalt pavement engineering. To evaluate the fatigue life of asphalt binders, two tests have been developed: the time sweep (TS) and the linear amplitude sweep (LAS), both conducted using the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR). Similar to asphalt mixtures, predicting the fatigue life of asphalt binders necessitates the predefinition of fatigue failure criterion and/or fatigue failure definition (failure point). Phenomenological and dissipated energy-based failure criteria are commonly employed to analyze TS test results, while the viscoelastic continuum damage (VECD) model is primarily used to predict fatigue life through the LAS test. Given that the fatigue test temperature significantly impacts the fatigue life of asphalt binders, various methods have been proposed in the literature for selecting the fatigue test temperature.</div><div>This paper provides a comprehensive review of the fatigue life evaluation of asphalt binders using both TS and LAS tests. It summarizes the different fatigue failure criteria and fatigue failure definitions employed and discusses the selection of fatigue test temperatures. Furthermore, the paper examines the influence of fatigue test conditions, binder chemical composition and/or penetration grade, and bitumen modification on the fatigue life of asphalt binders. Based on the current review, it is recommended to utilize the LAS test on PAV-aged bitumen under strain-controlled conditions to evaluate the fatigue life of asphalt binders. The most relevant failure definition is the peak in stored pseudo-strain energy based on the simplified viscoelastic continuum damage model (S-VECD). Accurate sensor signals, particularly voltage, current, and temperature sensor signals, are essential for a BMS to perform functions such as state estimation, balance control, and fault diagnosis. The smooth operation of a BMS depends primarily on sensor signals, which provide current, voltage, and temperature information to maintain the battery pack in a safe running state. However, sensor failures and inaccurate measurement data can easily occur because of external interference and complex operating conditions. Therefore, an investigation into the fault diagnosis of battery sensors and fault-tolerant control (FTC) is necessary to ensure the normal operation of a BMS. This paper analyzes the modes of sensor faults, fault diagnosis methods, and fault-tolerant control techniques. First, the different modes of sensor faults are analyzed, and mathematical expressions for these faults are provided. Second, diagnostic methods for sensor faults based on models, signal processing, and data-driven methods are analyzed in detail. Finally, FTC techniques are introduced to ensure stable sensor operation. By exploring the generation and variation patterns of driving fatigue and clarifying the application status of its detection and warning technology, traffic safety can be improved. In order to understand the research progress of driving fatigue, based on the Web of Science core database, this paper obtained 2127 English literature published from 1998 to 2023 (as of May 12, 2023), covering a total of 5963 authors and 6019 keywords, and the bibliometric tool VOSviewer and R-Bibliometrix are used to analyze the literatures. Firstly, the literature statistical analysis is carried out from annual distribution, country distribution, source journals, and core authors. Secondly, the research hotspots and trends are analyzed from keywords co-occurrence, high-impact literature, theme evolution, and development trends. Finally, the development trend of driving fatigue research is discussed. The result shows that the hotspots in the field of driving fatigue include driving fatigue detection, fatigue driving risk and fatigue research of professional drivers, driver alertness and coping strategies for driver fatigue, and driver fatigue under automatic driving. And the improvement of the accuracy and reliability of driving fatigue detection will be the difficult point to break through in the future. It is necessary to build a multi-disciplinary and meticulously quantified driving fatigue and its risk assessment system, and strengthen the control of fatigue risks. Research on intervention measures and education training for professional drivers needs to be deepened, while exploring the acceptance and compliance of intervention measures. The reduction of traffic carbon emissions is urgently needed. With advancements in technology, significant progress has been made in reducing traffic carbon emissions. Despite numerous studies of technology's impact on traffic carbon reduction, significant challenges remain in quantitative evaluation of mitigation effects. This study conducts a systematic literature review from the perspective of carbon emission reduction in transportation and summarized the primary applications, fundamental concepts, technological maturity, and effectiveness in carbon emission reduction of four types of technologies: artificial intelligence technology, transportation energy integration, vehicle technology, and other technologies. The results indicated that the application of the reviewed technologies is expected to make significant contributions to carbon emission reduction in transportation in the near future. Additionally, this review selected 177 papers published between 2013 and 2023 and conducted general analyses such as publication time, citation frequency, and the region and countries of the study. One significant source of these particles are non-exhaust emissions, which refer to pollutants that come from sources, like brake, tire, and road wear other than a vehicle's exhaust system. This review focuses on the presence of non-exhaust particles on pavement, encompassing their classification, composition, evaluation, and mitigation. Based on extensive literature, it can be concluded that the quantity of non-exhaust emissions is affected by a combination of complex factors, such as vehicle speed, tire type, and pavement material. Non-exhaust particles can be classified into organic, inorganic, and metal matter, each requiring a distinct analysis and detection method. The effective approaches to managing non-exhaust emissions include water cleaning, utilizing functional pavement materials, and applying chemical reagents to alleviate emission capacity. Crash data revealed that the number of deaths caused by PTWs is significantly higher than any other road users. Literature reports that one of the major causes of high PTW crashes is the riding behavior of the users. Therefore, the present paper reviews existing literature related to factors affecting riding behavior. Several factors with different levels of influence on PTW riding behavior are explored in the paper. Further, safety strategies to improve PTW safety have been reported in the study by categorizing it based on risk factors, i.e., riding behavior, vehicle technology, and road infrastructure. The paper concludes with some of the major findings, i) riding behavior plays an essential role in improving PTW safety, ii) numerous research stated that riding behavior can be improved by enforcement and providing feedback about their riding behavior by profiling them into different categories, and iii) segregation of PTW traffic from other road users is reported to be an effective solution for increasing PTW safety in some developing countries. While a considerable amount of research related to riding behavior and PTW safety has been done, studies related to the impact of riding feedback on PTW riding behavior are scant. PU is a kind of \"wear-resistant rubber\" with high strength and good wear resistance obtained by pre-polymerization of isocyanate and polyol. In this review, the design and preparation of PU and aggregates, i.e., PU mixture, were summarized, followed by the discussion of the strength, stiffness and durability of PU mixture. Numerous creative concepts of structure and mixture design of PU pavements were summarized, and PU dosage, the curing time, temperature, and compaction times were clarified in detail. Particularly, some successful applications including poroelastic road surface (PERS), PU porous mixture (PPM), PU rubber particle mixture (PRPM), and permeable PU stabilized recycled aggregate (PPSRA) were discussed. Special attention was given to the economic and environmental benefits of PU pavement. Overall, the PU pavement can achieve the much-needed functions of modern urban roads or highways, and prolong the service life of the pavement. However, more researches are needed to explore the design methods of PU mixture and improved its road performance.
