The choice of reproductive strategies is influenced by two polar trends: the increasing importance of innovative methods of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and medically-associated reproduction (MAR), on the one hand, and the growing popularity of traditional methods of pregnancy and childbirth management based on folk healing, yoga, oriental medicine and health improving practices, homeopathy, popular psychology and so on., on the other. Thus, two sides of procreative behavior manifest themselves: both the patterns reflecting a biomedical approach based on scientific innovations and the social behavioral models related to public perceptions of health, well-being and gender roles in the society. The article presents the results of a pilot survey of women of reproductive age (n=54) conducted in April 2022 via an electronic questionnaire. The study focused on two topics: ART (awareness and attitude to various ART programs) and pregnancy and childbirth (perception of different forms of preparation for childbirth, the preferred form of childbirth, attitude to medical interventions in the birth process). Data analysis showed that women's reproductive intentions remain medicalized and take into account the possibilities of ART. Also, the results of the survey confirm the growing demand for humanization of maternity care, which is reflected in the desire of women to carefully approach organization of their own childbirth and team of assistants, to attend courses for expectant parents, be more informed and comprehensively prepared.","PeriodicalId":47095,"journal":{"name":"Population","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2022-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47743706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tonkikh","doi":"10.19181/population.2022.25.4.4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.19181/population.2022.25.4.4","url":null,"abstract":"The article presents the results of a qualitative sociological study using the author's technology in order to conceptualize the phenomenon of parental well-being. The methodology of the study is based on the generalization of the theoretical provisions of parenthood and family well-being. It is concluded that parental well-being as a factor of demographic processes has not been studied enough, the concept of parental well-being has vague contours, there is no detailed formulation of its content and basic elements. In May — July 2022, on the results of an online survey there were collected and processed empirical data based on the responses of women (N = 335) to the open question \"What do you associate with the concept of \"parental well-being\"? Write one or two phrases/sentences.\" The respondents' responses were processed using semantic content analysis. The word \"happiness\" was used in 18.8% of the responses received. Thematic coding was applied, individual and collective trajectories of meanings were identified. There are 10 collective trajectories combined in the author's system of markers of parental well-being. The frequency of markers mentioning in women's responses was calculated, that made it possible to identify key, basic markers: relationships with children (32.5%); well-being and success of children (29.6%); health (28.4%); security: income, work, housing (19.1%); emotional state of parents (10.4%); time (8.4%). Childless women were 3 times less likely to mention the topic \"Well-being and success of children\", but they are much more likely to associate parental well-being with finances and the ability to provide everything necessary for children. It makes sense to take these results into account when forming programs to popularize parenthood among young people. The author has formulated a \"working\" definition of the concept of parental well-being, substantiated the need for further research to clarify it on the basis of surveys of men using a similar technology. The practical value of the system of basic markers of parental well-being lies in the possibilities of its application for further development of the sample survey program \"Digitalization of employment, fertility and parental well-being\".","PeriodicalId":47095,"journal":{"name":"Population","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2022-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43613689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presented results are based on a series of specially held in-depth interviews. The lifestyle was considered in terms of such components as: communication practices, consumer practices, leisure and recreation, vacation. In addition, general assessments of the period since the beginning of the pandemic spread were identified in terms of changes in attitudes towards health, plans for the future, and the government's influence on preventing development of crisis processes. The conducted interviews allow us to draw preliminary conclusions that the introduced regime of self-isolation and social distancing had a rather serious impact on such components of lifestyle as the forms of communication practices in everyday life; leisure and recreation; vacation planning; health-preserving behavior. The numerous problems that the respondents faced as the result of the introduction of anti-epidemiological measures, inevitably caused the growth of negative moods, the intensification of existential fears because of the uncertainty of the situation development in the future. At the same time, the crisis contributed to emergence of new opportunities associated with active development of information technologies, which are among the most important factors in the transformation of the old way of life. If respondents, who are employees at some companies, are more likely to take wait-and-see attitude to the pandemic-related changes, but those respondents, who are entrepreneurs or self-employed, have shown a more active reaction to the changes by improving their business models and diversification of their activities.","PeriodicalId":47095,"journal":{"name":"Population","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2022-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49314959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the work is to identify the factors of socio-economic development of Russian regions that have the greatest impact on the level of population reproduction and to analyze the sensitivity of this characteristic to changes in the state of socio-economic situation in Russian regions. To achieve this goal, the key characteristics of the population reproduction potential were analyzed the marginal rate of population reproduction and standardized birth rates for five-year age groups of mothers for the period from 1990 to 2020.The results presented in the article were obtained in the course of studying the dynamics of population reproduction and interdependencies with the main socio-economic indicators of the regions, assessed by the methods of correlation analysis and machine learning, on the results of testing of which the most informative factors were identified that have a significant impact on the process of reproduction of the country and its regions with the account of the age structure of mothers. In particular, it was found that with an increase in the age of mother, the influence of factors characterizing economic well-being increases when deciding to have a child, while in younger age groups the indicators of social well-being become more important. On the basis of these models, estimates of the sensitivity of indicators of population reproduction and birth rates in each of the studied age groups of mothers were obtained in case of changes in the socio-economic factors. Based on the analysis, there were drawn conclusions about the impact of the socio-economic situation in the country and regions on the birth rates in different age groups of mothers, as well as on the reproductive potential in general.","PeriodicalId":47095,"journal":{"name":"Population","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2022-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43253274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
