CiteSpace visualized knowledge maps of this field of research. The research findings show that in the field of Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) in language education, The Modern Language Journal is found to be the most highly cited journal within the past twenty-seven years; the top three highly cited authors are Michael Byram, Claire Kramsch, and Robert O’Dowd; Ethical Issues in Teaching for Intercultural Citizenship in World/Foreign Language Education is the most highly cited article; transcultural skill, intercultural communicative competence, technology-assisted L2 research, and pragmatics instruction are found to be top four leading research streams. These findings provide considerable insights into the highly cited journals, authors, articles and leading streams concerning ICC in language education from the diachronic perspective. The visualization of ICC in language education literature by formulating a bibliometric approach might be beneficial for researchers and scholars to track the development of this field.","PeriodicalId":470762,"journal":{"name":"International journal of languages, literature and linguistics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135761370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Chinese culture context, this paper discusses the pragmatic analysis mode of chatting discourse in the Chinese New Year and the factors that affect the choice of response modes under the constraints of Chinese seniority from the perspective of interpersonal pragmatics. Through the analysis of questionnaires in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), this paper found that the family conversation during the Spring Festival caused widespread discussion and became a social phenomenon worthy of attention. The younger generation had a negative emotional tendency towards it, and the expression of the questioner was the key influencing factor. Different questioning methods had significant differences.","PeriodicalId":470762,"journal":{"name":"International journal of languages, literature and linguistics","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135761363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ecolinguistics emerged jointly with the “ecological turn” [1] among numerous disciplines. The present research conducts a contrastive Ecological Discourse Analysis under the framework of Thematic Theory of Halliday, aiming to examine the thematic choices made in the environmental speeches from the US and UK and shed light on the implications of their respective ecological ideologies. Findings suggest that, a major part of the US’s theme selections is animated (46.4%), express a philosophy of “America first”, and therefore indicate the notion of “anthropocentrism.” More inanimate theme selections were made in the UK than in America (39.4% vs. 28.4%), showing that the British public are more considerate of their surroundings. They face the shackles of the new and old land. From Willa Cather’s O Pioneers! in the early 20th century to Peacock Cries at the Three Gorges by Hong Ying in the late 20th century, they depict segregated migrant geographical landscapes based on diverse forms of land and rivers respectively, giving rise to different forms of “migration lines”: the “dividing line” in Nebraska and the “water line” in the Three Gorges Dam area of the Yangtze River. Both double lines conceal the authors’ immigrant experience and their special anti-isolation, and finally complete social gender and identity confirmation. Through the counterpoint writing of geographical landscapes and the shaping of dual emotions, multicultural forms are continuously activated by immigrant communities. In this context, wishing to provide a novel perspective and interpretation path for immigrant literature, it will bridge the intersectional commonality between Chinese and foreign immigrants, and compose the immigrant song of the times.","PeriodicalId":470762,"journal":{"name":"International journal of languages, literature and linguistics","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135761372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If social background beyond the text is considered, the implicit repression exerted by the dominant middle-class discourse and the resulting female predicament continue throughout the play. Richard gave up his zeal for changing the world, swallowed up by utilitarianism and instrumental rationality. Lily struggled between the call of independent consciousness and the drag of her faint expectation of family, yet finally chose to be docile and compromised with the family. Another tragic layer deviates from the comic nostalgic motif; O’Neill’s feminist concern deviates from the seemingly male-centered surface text, hence the narrative progression of the play text. Beyond the text, the stage set of the play visualizes the process of middle-class utilitarianism devouring individuals, and the directors’ tendency in the adaptations and the actors’ interpretation of their roles prove the hidden sense of repression existent. When the evidence from the stage is applied to the text interpretation, extending covert progression to drama analysis bursts with new vitality.","PeriodicalId":470762,"journal":{"name":"International journal of languages, literature and linguistics","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135761357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By constructing analysis framework, this paper not only analyzes text mode from the perspective of Halliday’s three meta-language functions, but also studies collaborative discourse propaganda effect of visual mode, auditory mode, and text mode from the perspective of semantic coherence and intertextuality at the level of discourse practice. This paper also expounds the performance of ideology and discourse power in propaganda film of Shanxi Province. The study has drawn the conclusion that regional propaganda films are mostly characterized by material and relational processes, third-person, and unmarked theme structure. Communication effect of multimodal synergy maximizes propaganda effect during text production and consumption. And regional propaganda films reflect the historical, cultural and political will and China’s determination to open up to the outside world at the same time.","PeriodicalId":470762,"journal":{"name":"International journal of languages, literature and linguistics","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135761576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Scholars at home and abroad have done a lot of research on them, but most of them focus only on directional verbs or only on individual words in Chinese-Uyghur directional verbs. There is little systematic and comprehensive research on the corresponding expressions of Chinese-Uyghur directional verbs. Based on previous studies and the theoretical foundation of comparative linguistics, this paper discusses the corresponding expression rules of directional verbs in Uyghur from four aspects: the grammatical meaning of simple directional verbs, compound directional verbs and directional verbs, and the difference between directional verbs and object positions. Through comparative analysis, the structural patterns and rules of different languages will be found, which will provide a certain scientific basis for the learning of Chinese-Uyghur languages and also play a certain auxiliary role in second language teaching.","PeriodicalId":470762,"journal":{"name":"International journal of languages, literature and linguistics","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136072090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
