In social and scientific discourse, we often hear that they are considered one of the significant factors responsible for the observed increase in mental health problems among young people in recent decades. Therefore, understanding the impact of these media on the mental well-being of young individuals has become a priority. For this purpose, a systematic review of research on the relationship between adolescents' use of social media and their mental health was conducted. The systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA standards. Its aim was to identify all studies exploring the association between adolescents' engagement in social media use and the state of their mental health, specifically targeting individuals aged 12-18 years. The EBSCOhost search engine was employed for this purpose, and databases such as Academic Search Ultimate, Education Source Ultimate, Applied Science & Technology Source Ultimate, Medline, Eric, and APA PsycArticle were searched from May to June 2023, aiming to identify studies published between 2013 and 2023. A total of 25 articles were identified from 16,787 records and subjected to evaluation. The results presented in these articles did not provide clear evidence for a linear, strong, and positive association between adolescents' use of social media and the occurrence of mental health problems. The majority of the evaluated research projects had several limitations, therefore it seems justified to conduct further studies with significantly improved measurement procedures, which could yield valuable and clinically relevant data on the relationship between social media use and the mental health of young individuals.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Three-level Model of a Computer Game as Interaction","authors":"Zbigniew Wałaszewski","doi":"10.5604/01.3001.0053.9405","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5604/01.3001.0053.9405","url":null,"abstract":"The article presents an updated model of playing a computer game as the user’s interaction with its system, taking into consideration audiovisuality as the fundamental channel for computer-human communication. Interactivity is an inherent property of computer games, which clearly distinguishes them from other kinds of games: it is therefore a defining feature of computer games. On the other hand, audiovisuality is a necessary characteristic, following from the communication between the computer and its user, taking place mainly in the channel of synchronized image and sound, which is dominant in human perception. The point of departure for the model development is an analysis of human interaction with the machine which runs the game system; in the model, there is a dynamic change from interactivity of a computer game to a human being’s interaction with the computer while playing, which makes it possible to fully account for the complexity of the situation of playing a computer game. The presented model combines the ludic aspect of a computer game (interactive entertainment) with the capacity to convey messages (an audiovisual cultural text), and from a commmunicative perspective, it unambiguously assigns a human being the role of the subject using a computer game.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"239 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The project consisted of two parts. The first one is the examination of children's psychological and pedagogical needs. It was carried out with the use of the Questionnaire of Disorders in the Realization of Social Roles, among 96 students studying in IV – VIII classes of primary schools. This questionnaire serves as a screening test for the research sample. Test results show that the average and high level of disorders in the role of a peer is experienced by 30% of students, while the sense of peer rejection at the same levels is shown by as many as 35% of the respondents. The main study is an examination of the effectiveness of multimedia art therapy program in improving peer relations of Ukrainian students. The aim of this part was to support building peer relationships among studied children and provide them with the necessary emotional support. 57 students participated in a 10 group art workshops using multimedia. The theoretical concept of this project was based on Expressive Therapy (Malchodi & Bochenek, 2014). To determine the effectiveness of art therapy, qualitative methods were used: subjective scales and descriptive scales, as well as observations of the creative process, statements and reflections of students during and after the project. The results underscored a noticeable improvement in the students' self-perceptions, with reported enhancements in feelings of connection, self-worth, and self-approval. Additionally, an increase in communication skills, positive peer interactions, and social acceptance was observed.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the survey was to collect data on the frequency and forms of VR use, as well as the factors determining the choice of virtual reality by young adults. In the course of statistical analyses, the Chi-square test, and Cramer's V interpretation were used. The collected data show that virtual reality presented with VR goggles is more attractive and absorbing than traditional computer games displayed on a monitor screen. The Chi-square test of independence and the study of the strength of the relationship showed among others that: there is a strong relationship between consciously controlling the time spent on VR games and gender (p<0.05; V = 0.514) or age (p<0.05; V = 0.611); cancelling meetings with friends to play VR games and gender (p<0.05; V = 0.673) or education (p<0.05; V = 0.567). Most respondents (50.8 per cent), classified as a group at risk of problematic use of VR games play VR games from 2 to 4 hours a day. Young adults not comply with the rules of digital hygiene, they are also characterized by low awareness of the risks arising from the use of games. Meanwhile, uncontrolled infatuation with VR can lead to addiction, which needs to be discussed and warned against. Special attention and preventive measures should be given to young men.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus is on school intercultural practices. The paper presents the result of qualitative research conducted in 2013-2019, which aimed to show the perspective of a Polish middle school student and her parent who, emigrating to the USA and re-emigrating to Poland, gained a comparative scale of inclusion practices applied in relation to a migrant student as well as awareness of the strategies which contributed to her mastery of the second language and a lasting attitude of favorableness towards the language and its culture. In order to include the sociolinguistic context, which is of particular significance for the problem investigated, the case study was expanded by an observation and partially structured interviews. The case report cited emphasizes the impact of specific inclusion practices which are worth attention (and possibly dissemination) as those that evoke positive emotions in the student, reduce the level of anxiety and stress, and focus on boosting the student’s self-confidence - as a result, they support educational success in achieving (acquired) bilingualism - and a lasting attitude towards the second language and the culture to which it gives access.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the theorists and practitioners in the field of education there appeared both ardent supporters of the use of these technologies, and strong opponents of this idea. Our experimental study proved the efficiency of artificial intelligence technologies in the process of the formation of foreign language communicative competence of students of non-linguistic specialties of higher educational institutions. At the same time, we emphasize that the role of the teacher in the process of organizing the educational process remains fundamental, whereas his/her additional tasks in modern conditions include a careful selection of artificial intelligence technologies, creation of a set of exercises based on their application, which should contribute to the formation of professional competencies of students.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Academy conducts educational activities for children and youth, primarily from rural areas, usingthe STEAM model project method, with the substantive and didactic support of the University of Zielona Góra. The funding for teaching resources and class operations comes entirely from obtained grants, leading to evaluations by financing institutions, mainly local governments. The evaluation results show that the classes received high ratings, even though the concept of STEAM education remains relatively unfamiliar to both the Participants and Observers. Participants have a limited perception of the practical usefulness of interdisciplinary classes. In contrast, Observers highly appreciate the educational value of integrated education, particularly in the fields of technology, computer science, programming, mathematics, and physics. The implementation of the STEAM model is particularly successful in classes related to the construction and operation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) installations. The collaboration between AP&R and the University has spanned over 5 years, providing valuable experience, and enabling the collection of conclusions and recommendations for continuous improvement of educational practices. These insights aim to enhance the effectiveness of the educational projects.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the analyses was to reconstruct the meanings given by teachers to their own activity in the blogosphere, assessing the potential of blogs in creating the image of the teacher as a professional. Internet ethnography (i.e. cyberethnography, netnography) was used to analyse the blogs. The selection of the research sample was a two-stage process. In the first stage, the teacher blogosphere was reviewed: more than 70 blogs by English teachers, 50 by Polish teachers and 10 by history teachers were selected. A selection of these was made, taking into account: the timing of the activity (more than one year), the frequency of content updates, the regularity of the entries, and the hypertextual diversity. The following blogs were subjected to qualitative analysis: Baba od polskiego, Kreatywny Polonista, DoKlasy, BB's Playground, Hummingbirds els. Teacher self-presentation was the main research category. A number of features of diaries have been found in the content of the blogs: the process of shaping one's “I”, the embeddedness in the present, the systematic nature of the entries, and the writing and rhetorical practice aimed at influencing the outside world (Maryl, 2013). The “I” presented by teacher-bloggers is characterised by openness, responsiveness, creativity, authenticity, relationality, reflexivity and professionalism. The image of the teacher presented in the blogosphere “seduces”. The analysis confirms the different motivations for “being” in the blogosphere. They relate to responding to young people's expectations for teachers to undertake such online activity and the possibility of co-creating open educational resources. The blog activity of teachers is characterised by the so-called personal branding, i.e. building a personal brand, an image of oneself, which is to convince potential recipients to cooperate. Presenting “yourself” in the blogosphere - enhances, sometimes even improves, the image of the teaching profession in the offline world.","PeriodicalId":470183,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
