The changing demographic structure of the population poses new challenges, which require greater involvement of both the state and the private sector in addressing the issues of the aging society. The main objective of the article was to determine whether seniors’ tourist trips impacted on their final migration. An additional purpose was to establish the senior migrant profile. In order to answer the research question, primary quantitative research was performed, which consisted in collecting information from respondents through a standardized questionnaire. To systematize the reasons for seniors’ migrations, a cluster analysis (Ward’s method) was applied. The seniors moved to places where they found a clean environment of considerable tourist values. The migration improved their living standards and life quality. Almost half of the pensioners had previously visited the place where they moved to permanently.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48763131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the uncertain and experience-oriented nature of tourism often drives mothers to display herding behaviors, heavily relying on others’ opinions, and making decisions similar to each other due to social influence. This study offers rich and in-depth descriptions of mothers’ online herding behaviors in their family travel decision-making. The qualitative methods of netnography and in-depth individual interviews were used to observe mothers’ online herding behaviors within one of the major non-commercial online communities for mothers in South Korea. Based on the results, this study introduces a theoretical framework regarding herding behaviors that includes both antecedents and outcomes. This study also provides implications for tourism practitioners based on a comprehensive understanding of the online herding behaviors displayed by South Korean mothers regarding their family travel decision-making.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46642896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research is aimed to (1) identify and (2) classify/categorise various adjustments in social torism programmes for seniors to determine the unique combination of adjustments that characterise social tourism programmes for seniors. Building on the hierarchical leisure constraints model [Crawford, D. W., Jackson, E. L., & Godbey, G. (1991). A hierarchical model of leisure constraints. Leisure Sciences, 13(4), 309–320. doi:10.1080/01490409109513147] the analysis intersects the three groups of constraints – intrapersonal, interpersonal and structural – with three strands of uncertainty faced by seniors – travel uncertainty, financial uncertainty and mobility uncertainty and corresponding social support adjustments: personal support mechanisms and instrumental support mechanisms. The proposed model shows that travel social support is of central importance for effectively negotiating the travel constraints in social tourism for seniors.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46386313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pilgrims often felt strong emotions at their destinations: mean ratings of how moved they felt on 0-to-10 scales in the informal and online studies were 6.56 and 6.14, respectively. In the online study 26 people made visits to writers’ locations, 47 to musicians’ locations, and 18 to locations of artists of other kinds. We compared these with people who had not made pilgrimages. Higher life stress experienced during the previous five years predicted whether people went on artistic pilgrimages during that time. There was, however, no association between making a pilgrimage with overall well-being, or with fantasy and perspective taking. Some participants who did more reading were disappointed by their visits to places associated with writers. Motives of art pilgrimage include renewal and cultural change, therapy, curiosity, homage, meaningful experience, and enhancement of visited places. Art pilgrims take with them a piece of inner imagination so that it can become more complete in their outer perception of the place they visit. An intense emotion at a destination indicates the importance of the artist to the pilgrim.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43247812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Before the pandemic, Bangsaen tourism experienced issues of beach quality degradation due to overcrowding, competitive vending, and lack of diversification. After the pandemic, the municipality imposed new regulations, reset zones to safeguard the public health, and jump-started the economy. The changing regulations created conflicts with vendors on zoning rearrangements and reduced sales. The author conducted a survey to investigate the beach activities, the local small business operations, and the local authority’s regulation changes. The survey results indicated that Bangsaen needs alternative attractions to complement its beach activities and to help cope with traffic congestion. The results also find out the social disparity in the demography of the vendors, which calls for attention to gender aspects and inclusive facets in the social infrastructure development strategy. This study suggests that vendors collaborate collectively with the local government to challenge the appropriation of beach spaces and to create innovative tactics. In addition, destination management organizations need to strive for better collaboration with small business operators to help them adapt to the change and enter the formal economy.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43251815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to identify critical steps for similar destinations to solve the problem of overtourism by exemplifying which critical factors are associated with the perception of overtourism in Istanbul. A case study design was chosen within the scope of the qualitative method. Data were obtained via semi-structured interviews and subjected to content analysis. Interviews were conducted with representatives of NGOs operating in Istanbul. The findings revealed three main themes regarding the perception of overtourism: indicators of the current situation, indicators of overtourism, and indicators of reaction. While the tourist profile and regional agglomeration stand out as the problems of current tourism, public space, housing, and gentrification, policies without governance are emphasized as overtourism problems. Development in urbanization, urban culture, and urban consciousness are key reactions recommended. Unlike many other destinations, it has been determined that the phenomenon of overtourism in Istanbul is perceived and questioned not by the number of tourists but by the criticism of the policies implemented.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41686481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analysis of tourist-generated content, including destination image (DI) dimensions and frequency, suggests that Chinese tourists prefer human attractions and experiencing neighborhood life, while Western tourists prefer natural scenery and participating in tourist activities. The research also spotlights the phenomenon of the ‘tourist gaze circulatory.’ Tourists’ differentiated pursuits and on-site tourism experiences can influence the projection of DI, and the altered DI will in turn affect subsequent tourists. Based on this notion, suggestions are made for the in-depth development of the Canal’s historic conservation areas, differentiated for the different gazes of Chinese and Western tourists; and for a guide to help Western tourists experience Chinese urban life and enrich their gaze objects, with a view to protecting and enhancing world cultural heritage.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46041479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Memory, freed from the burden of communism, demanded concepts such as identity and heritage is defined again. It was necessary to verify myths and half-told truths, to articulate issues that had so far been silenced, hidden or even erased from the public space and discourse. In this context, the so-called ‘recovered territories’, namely the regions which became part of Poland after the Second World War, seem particularly interesting. The article focuses on both purposeful and accidental, grassroots and institutional actions which illustrate broadly understood processes of ‘restoring remembrance’ in Lower Silesia (Niederschlesien before 1945). The subject of the analysis, however, is not only the process itself but primarily its tourism context. The paper is trying to determine whether and how such actions influence tourist space and phenomena in the region. The methods used were case study, observation, and desk research.","PeriodicalId":46712,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42047831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
