By analysing all available versions of the proposal, the article examines two primary sets of textual discrepancies and their potential implications for interpreting the motives of the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The analysis emphasises the importance of taking into account the translation process and the translators’ contributions to creating these disparities.","PeriodicalId":46099,"journal":{"name":"Cold War History","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46259268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Cold War regime competition for economic prosperity, the communist regime turned to the City of London to raise capital for economic development. Despite the diplomatic efforts of South Korea against its rival, the judges were international banks. The failure to manage its indebtedness resulted in the retreat of the North in the Western financial market. Lost creditworthiness was hard to restore. The divergence in the access to foreign capital resulted in the different paths of economic growth of the two Koreas.","PeriodicalId":46099,"journal":{"name":"Cold War History","volume":"23 1","pages":"411 - 429"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48055237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Contrasting the public’s views with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s hostile approach towards German unity, it demonstrates that the British public were largely supportive of the principle of German reunification. Nevertheless, there was uncertainty about reunification’s consequences. Furthermore, significant generational differences existed, with Britons who experienced life during periods of war in the first half of the twentieth century expressing greater concern about the prospect of a united Germany.","PeriodicalId":46099,"journal":{"name":"Cold War History","volume":"23 1","pages":"431 - 451"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47437975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moyn’s revisionist account centred on the thesis that human rights only emerged as the dominant aspirational framework in the 1970s.
