Our study employed a qualitative research methodology based on interviews with RMG owners, workers, non-government organizations (NGOs) and IT experts. The interview data suggested MbIS has the potential to empower RMG owners/workers. MbIS-enabled empowerment suggests access to information, competency, impact; self-determination and meaning are empowerment components for RMG workers. Improved communication, the opportunity to access employee regulations, access to health and safety information, increased confidence with regard to ability and professional development opportunities are potential empowerment outcomes of using MbIS. This is one of the few papers examining MbIS comprehensively for worker empowerment, as most literature approaches the matter from the consumer standpoint, not in an organizational setting. The study contributes by providing practical knowledge to the RMG, government, and development organizationsin empowerment processes, components and empowerment outcomes using MbIS for RMG owners/employees. Other garment-producing developing countries may also gain insight into how to empower RMG workers using MbIS.","PeriodicalId":45982,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Information Technology Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77722488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the unbanked population is in developing countries. In South Sudan, for instance, only 9% of the adults had a bank account. Similarly, about 70% of the population in Latin America is unbanked or underbanked (Rojas-Torres, Kshetri, Hanafi, & Kouki, 2021). However, closure of such subsidiaries has received limited limelight than the success stories. The paper examines the less explored event of international subsidiary closure using a representative sample of Indian software services multinationals and the associated subsidiaries closed during 2007–2017. Cox proportional hazard function is estimated using host-country, parent-firm and subsidiary-specific factors. Results show that the three levels of factors have significant impact on subsidiary closure. While economic growth in host country reduced probability of closure, the smaller subsidiaries and less profitable ones had higher probability of closure. Business group affiliation was found to have direct and independent impact on reducing probability of subsidiary closure. However, the liability of inter-regional foreignness due to higher geographical breadth of internationalization was not supported in the case of Indian software multinationals.","PeriodicalId":45982,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Information Technology Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78902840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We examine the issue using data from 49 countries in sub–Saharan Africa for the period 2004–2018 divided into: (i) 42 countries for the period 2004–2014; and (ii) 49 countries for the period 2008-2018. Given the overwhelming evidence of negative net effects in the first sample, an extended analysis is used to establish thresholds of ICT penetration that nullify the established net negative effects. We found that in order to enhance female labor force participation, the following ICT thresholds are worthwhile for the secondary education channel: 165 mobile phone penetration per 100 people, 21.471 internet penetration per 100 people and 3.475 fixed broadband subscriptions per 100 people. For the same outcome of inducing a positive effect on female labor force participation, a 31.966 internet penetration per 100 people threshold, is required for the mechanism of tertiary school education. These computed thresholds have economic meaning and policy relevance because they are within the established ICT policy ranges. In the second sample, a mobile phone penetration threshold of 122.20 per 100 people is needed for the tertiary education channel to positively affect female labor force participation.","PeriodicalId":45982,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Information Technology Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86377105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research on tourism destination online platforms has proclaimed Destination Management Systems (DMSs) as their most advanced version, mostly by giving visitors the ability to accomplish most of their travel arrangements through a reliable official platform integrating several destination components. However, most of the academic research on DMSs is conceptual and/or lacks a holistic perspective of the functionalities that characterize such systems and does not provide an overview of the functionalities that differentiate these systems from more traditional DMOs’ web platforms. The present paper intends to contribute to fill these gaps, namely to identify the functionalities that differentiate these systems by confronting previous research that focuses on potential DMS functionalities with the results of an empirical study encompassing a content analysis of 23 DMS and interviews with both DMS’s developers and DMO officials. The findings suggest a considerable mismatch between the functionalities conveyed by existing DMSs and previous research either theoretical or empirical that rely on the analysis of few DMSs. The paper ends with conclusions and suggestions regarding the development of DMSs.","PeriodicalId":45982,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Information Technology Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82508583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our objective was to identify means by which these firms can enhance service value, with particular focus on value constellations. We used a qualitative approach to investigate four case studies of firms in Taiwan. We found that value-constellation innovation combines multiple types of value creation (i.e., value chains, value shops, and value networks) through application of information-and-communication technology. Analysis from the perspective of service-dominant logic promotes understanding of the development of network relationships among firms in the relevant value constellations and government agencies which are investing in information-and-communication technology. We also highlight three areas that deserve further attention: reconfiguring value systems, leveraging technology, and redefining government roles in value constellations.","PeriodicalId":45982,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Information Technology Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84889423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study is based on a sample of 797 scholars who published their papers in the Financial Times Top 45 management journals in the years 2013–2015. Data were collected through observations conducted mainly on SM and university sites and analyzed by using negative binomial regression. It was found that the international collaboration of the research team is positively associated with the presence of the first author on Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNSs) as ResearchGate and Academia.edu. Despite the fact that juniors are more likely to be present in SM platforms, the senior position of the first author was positively associated with the international collaboration, which can be explained by the fact that senior academics have accumulated more extensive bridging social capital. The identified relationship indicates that professional SM serves as a tool to establish a digital footprint not only in business but also in academia. As well as the need for further investigation of the role and potential of ASNSs to foster newer and more efficient forms of international research collaboration.","PeriodicalId":45982,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Information Technology Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83609017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
