However, there is no consensus on the effectiveness of set recommendation versus separate recommendation. This research investigates the interaction effect of product recommendation type and consumer’s focal goal importance on initial product purchase intention and cross-buying intention.Design/methodology/approach: Four studies were used to examine the hypotheses, including three experimental studies with general participants and a field study with student participants.Findings/results: An empirical analysis confirms an interaction relationship between product recommendation style and focal goal importance on enhancing purchase. When focal goal importance is high, set recommendation has a more positive effect on purchase intention. When focal goal importance is low, the separate recommendation has a more positive effect on purchase intention.Practical implications: Research findings provide guidance for sellers on which product recommendation type to use with different customers. Sellers should be flexible in determining different product recommendation types through different consumers’ focal goals.Originality/value: Findings reveal the congruency effect between product recommendation type and consumer’s focal goal importance, which indicates an interaction effect on initial product purchase intention and cross-buying intention. In addition, this research expands the application of regulatory focus theory and analyses the underlying mechanism by exploring the role of perceived incompleteness and cognitive load.","PeriodicalId":45649,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Business Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2024-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141806951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, based on the resource-based view, this article explores the mechanism of effective resource management in the process of achieving dual performance in social entrepreneurship-oriented enterprises.Design/methodology/approach: In this study, 220 enterprises in China were surveyed. A quantitative approach, utilising convenience sampling for survey distribution, was employed, and the proposed model was tested using structural equation modelling (SEM) and Fuzzy-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA).Findings/results: We found that: (1) Social entrepreneurship orientation (SEO) has a significant positive effect on corporate dual performance. (2) Social entrepreneurship orientation positively affects corporate dual performance through resource management, and this mediating role is played through multiple paths – separate mediating roles of resource acquisition, resource integration, and resource utilisation, serial mediating roles of resource acquisition and resource integration, serial mediating roles of resource acquisition and resource utilisation, serial mediating roles of resource integration and resource utilisation, and serial mediating roles of resource acquisition, resource integration, and resource utilisation. (3) The fsQCA analysis shows that there are two ways to realise corporate dual performance, namely, social entrepreneurship orientation-dominated means and resource management-dominated means.Practical implications: Companies in a period of social transformation should pay more attention to the role of social entrepreneurship orientation. In addition, they need to take a close look at resource management to effectively alleviate the pressure they face in fulfilling their social mission and realising economic values.Originality/value: These findings not only reveal the impact of social entrepreneurship orientation on corporate dual performance and its specific mechanism but also enhance the theoretical explanation of analysing the heterogeneity of SEO practice under the resource-based view.","PeriodicalId":45649,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Business Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2024-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141822547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Greenwashing and various corporate scandals have occurred, which have further diminished the relevance of CSR and the reporting thereof. In the South African context, although companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange Top 40 index (Johannesburg Stock Exchange [JSE] T40) report on their CSR considerations, the reporting lacks coherence and is often not underpinned by definite conceptual frameworks, which results in differentiation and inconsistency in CSR reporting. Given the role of these corporates in assisting the government to redress some of the social injustices and environmental issues, it is important to craft a coherent CSR reporting framework for the JSE T40.Design/methodology/approach: The study followed a constructivist qualitative research approach with a generic qualitative research design. Furthermore, the study used content analysis, in-depth interviews, focus group and thematic analysis.Findings/results: The coherent CSR reporting framework for the JSE T40 was crafted with four key themes, namely Pillars of coherent CSR reporting, industry requirements, decolonise CSR, and culminate diverse views.Practical implications: The framework aims to support the JSE T40 to better report on the CSR considerations, enable them to systematically communicate and evaluate the impact of their CSR initiatives.Originality/value: The application of coherent CSR reporting can aid in addressing socio-economic inequalities, global warming, corporate governance scandals, and greenwashing by increasing corporate responsiveness and responsibility. Therefore, the aspirations of the National Development Plan, African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be attained through CSR.","PeriodicalId":45649,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Business Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2024-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141822649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides practical examples of how the theory can be applied and highlights the ethical dilemmas associated with the integration of AI into our socio-economic fabric. The conceptualised insights can help guide business and society in the responsible integration of AI.Originality/value: A new framework for addressing the challenges of integrating AI into our societies and organisations is provided. Practical examples demonstrate how the theory can be applied in organisational contexts, providing value to business leaders and practitioners. Additionally, the insights into the ethical quandaries associated with AI integration can benefit policymakers, academics, and society at large. Overall, the scientific contribution is its proposal of a comprehensive cognitive disposition that can guide responsible and effective AI stewardship.","PeriodicalId":45649,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Business Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2024-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141658743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To overcome these obstacles, a new generation of leaders who are responsible and dedicated to upholding African traditions and values is needed. The Afrocentric perspective upholds self-versus being a community or team or group member within a leadership process; hence, ‘I am because you are’ and ‘one finger cannot pick grain’. This article argues that humanistic, relational and constructionist leadership theories assist in understanding responsible leadership from its Afrocentric perspective. The study aimed to position the Afrocentric perspective of responsible leadership that emphasises spirituality, connectedness, collective wisdom and consciousness.Design/methodology/approach: The study involved 10 executives from the public sector who have led core administration departments and entities for at least 4 years.Findings/results: The Afrocentric perspective on responsible leadership places significant value on interactively considering followers’ viewpoints. This approach emphasises humanism as an integral part of the leadership process, which requires spirituality, collective consciousness, a shared vision, collaborative partnerships and respect for the dignity of others as essential aspects of being a responsible leader.Practical implications: A sense of self is essential to any effort to add value to the community. When one person succeeds, it is a victory for the entire team. Afrocentric responsible leadership emphasises humanism, embedding spirituality, connectedness, collective wisdom and consciousness.Originality/value: The Afrocentric view of leadership sees leaders and followers as a collective, promoting a sense of connectedness using collective wisdom and consciousness.","PeriodicalId":45649,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Business Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141676651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Secondly, the digitalisation level negatively moderates the U-shaped relationship. Thirdly, the effect of ESG performance on brand value is mainly on the sub-items of environment and social responsibility, while the effect of governance is not significant.Practical implications: Firstly, firms should recognise the complex relationship between ESG performance and brand value, and strive to find a balance between economic benefits and sustainable development. Secondly, firms can utilise digital technology and platforms to communicate and interact with consumers, integrating ESG principles into their daily brand activities. Thirdly, investments in environmental and social responsibility are more meaningful for improving brand value.Originality/value: Firstly, our study adds value to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and ESG literature by investigating the non-linear impact of ESG performance on brand value. Secondly, we replenish the mechanistic study about how ESG performance affects brand value. Thirdly, we open the black box of the effect of single indicators (E/S/G) on brand value, including the specific direction and strength.","PeriodicalId":45649,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Business Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2024-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140967119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The non-probability sampling approach was used, and the data were collected via a survey questionnaire. For data analysis, SPSS and SmartPLS Structural equation modeling were used.Findings/results: The results confirmed a direct relationship between privacy, invasiveness and usefulness perception. It also confirmed a direct relationship between perceived usefulness and the intention to accept mobile-marketed banking services. In addition, the results also showed that in addition to the direct impact of perceived usefulness on intention to adopt mobile marketing usage for banking services, it acts as a mediator variable.Practical implications: Academics can pursue a qualitative study to unpack the reasons for sensitivity around banking technology in emerging markets. The study should lead to better understanding of both the investigated market and others like it. Organisations will gain valuable insight for informed investment in such markets.Originality/value: The article is the first empirical investigation into the adoption of mobile-marketed banking services by millennials in a developing economy context. The study adds a valuable component to academic debates by using two independent theories to gain a holistic view of the performance of advanced technology in banking business. The study adds to the literature by also proving the mediation role of perceived technology usefulness in banking.","PeriodicalId":45649,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Business Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141003454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
