This form of CNM relationship is increasingly visible in societies where monogamy is a prevalent norm. Research in the field of polyamory has yielded many findings regarding the multiple relational benefits of polyamory. However, there is a limited number of studies in the literature focusing specifically on why some people find polyamory more appealing than an exclusive, dyadic partner relationship. Therefore, framed within the historical context in which polyamory emerged and the associated stigmatization, this study presents a model of the psychological motivations for considering/engaging in/remaining in a polyamorous relationship in an era when monogamy and the binary nature of intimate and sexual relationships is being deconstructed. The study is based on a secondary theoretical analysis of recent psychological studies on polyamory, discussed in light of the relevant psychological theories of motivation. The result is an 8-component model of diverse potential polyamory motivations, individually or in aggregate. The motivations were organized into eight domains: fulfilment of needs not met in a monogamous relationship; personal growth and autonomy; identity development and polyamory; expression of political values; exploring minority identities (sexual fluidity and bisexuality); need to belong to a community; desire for sexual diversity; and psychodynamic reasons. This study also shows there may be diversified need of psychotherapeutic approaches for polyamorous individuals.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":45416,"journal":{"name":"Sexologies","volume":"31 3","pages":"Pages 184-194"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S115813602200024X/pdfft?md5=74d87538ff54cd9e2b91c377fd0db74d&pid=1-s2.0-S115813602200024X-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"137387888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pornography consumers were categorized into three groups. The first group consumed both hentai and human pornography (hentai consumers), the second consumed human pornography but not hentai (non-hentai), and the third did not consume hentai or human pornography (non-porn). Two hundred and eight participants completed an online study that involved self-report surveys and an image rating task. The results revealed that hentai consumers did not differ from non-hentai or non-porn consumers on avoidant attachment. However, among females, hentai consumers were higher on anxious attachment compared to non-porn consumers. For the image rating task, hentai consumers rated anime characters more attractive than non-hentai and non-porn consumers. However, there were no group differences for the image ratings of real people. Hentai consumers indicated stronger romantic desire towards anime characters compared to non-hentai and non-porn consumers; there were no group differences in romantic desire for humans. Unfortunately, this developmental process can be disrupted by many traumatic events. Of these, childhood abuse may be the most damaging: it has been shown to disrupt the natural development of sexuality, one of the manifestations being increased tendencies towards sexual paraphilias, especially sexual masochism and sadism, which can be particularly harmful in their more extreme forms. The current study sought to investigate links between three types of childhood abuse: psychological, physical, and sexual–and the genesis of adult sadomasochistic sexual tendencies, and how the relationship between child abuse and sadomasochism differs by gender.</p></div><div><h3>Method</h3><p>An online survey was conducted on a sample of 1219 participants who were queried regarding childhood psychological, sexual, and physical abuse. Based on the results of life history items, the participants were separated into the categories “abused” and “non-abused”. Both groups were then given a Masochism and Sadism survey with items adapted from Fisher et al. (2011). For analysis, sadistic and masochistic orientations were partitioned into severity levels of light and heavy masochism, and light, heavy, and passive sadism.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>The results confirmed that childhood abuse, especially sexual, increases sadomasochistic tendencies. These increases varied by gender such that abused males exhibited more sadistic preferences and females more masochistic. Levels of sadism and masochism varied with history of abuse and gender. The analyses also resulted in triple interactions for both masochism and sadism, as well as in several simple effects. There were no gender differences for heavy masochism and passive sadism, however, light masochism was more prominent in females, and heavy and light sadism was found more commonly in males. Additionally, the presence of any form of abuse was connected with significantly higher heavy, light and passive masochism and sadism.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>Differing types of childhood abuse, as well as gender, affect sadomasochistic preferences in adulthood, and the magnitude of these preferences.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":45416,"journal":{"name":"Sexologies","volume":"31 3","pages":"Pages 240-259"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1158136021000888/pdfft?md5=236aadfc245bc110c7acc9738f8dff03&pid=1-s2.0-S1158136021000888-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91621093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chaque année, des dizaines de cas de ces grossesses sont enregistrés dans les établissements scolaires au Togo. Le présent article s’intéresse à l’environnement familial des élèves dans l’explication du phénomène de grossesses précoces en questionnant l’effectivité des discussions parents-enfants sur la sexualité ainsi que leurs effets sur la persistance des grossesses adolescentes en milieu scolaire. Il se fonde en outre sur les données de l’enquête <em>Les approches multisectorielles pour prévenir les grossesses précoces dans les collèges au Togo</em> réalisée par l’Unité de Recherche Démographique de l’Université de Lomé en 2018. Les résultats révèlent que, - étant socialisés dans un contexte où la sexualité est un sujet tabou -, les parents discutent peu des sujets relatifs à la sexualité avec leurs adolescent.e.s. Ce silence qui, selon les parents, vise à préserver le plus possible les adolescent.e.s de la pratique de sexualité comporte cependant un revers pour ceux-ci, car au lieu d’être informés au sein de l’unité familiale avec toutes les explications possibles, ils/elles la découvrent plutôt via des canaux incontrôlés (médias, réseaux sociaux) ou des tiers qui ne sont pas nécessairement les meilleurs canaux d’apprentissage sur la vie sexuelle, d’où (en partie) la recrudescence des grossesses adolescentes en milieu scolaire au Togo.</p></div><div><p>The issue of school pregnancies remains a hot topic in many developing countries. Every year, dozens of cases of teenage pregnancy are recorded in schools in Togo. This paper focuses on the family environment of students in the explanation of the phenomenon of early pregnancies by questioning the effectiveness of parent-child discussions on sexuality as well as their effects on the teenage pregnancies persistence in school. It is further based on data from the survey “Multisectoral approaches to prevent teenage pregnancies in secondary schools in Togo” conducted by the Demographic Research Unit of Lomé University in 2018. The results revealed that, – being socialized in a context where sexuality is a taboo subject – parents rarely discuss subjects relating to sexuality with teenagers. This silence which, according to parents, aims to preserve adolescents as much as possible from the practice of sexuality, however, has a setback for them, because instead of being informed within the family unit with all the possible explanations, they rather discover it via uncontrolled channels (media, social networks) or third parties which are not necessarily the best channels for learning about sexuality, hence (partly) the resurgence of teenage pregnancies in schools in Togo.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":45416,"journal":{"name":"Sexologies","volume":"31 3","pages":"Pages 156-164"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90710685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to highlight various factors that contribute to the conjugal and sexual satisfaction of older couples, and to discuss the stressing of these factors in a crisis context. 534 participants aged between 18 and 74 years old answered several questionnaires measuring their degree of sexual and conjugal satisfaction as well as the areas of strength and fragility in the relational dynamics of their couple. In addition, five couples also accepted a semi-structured interview on their relationship dynamics and their vision of the ageing couple. The results highlight the major impact of several variables contributing to an increase in relational and sexual satisfaction within couples (e.g. health concerns, conflict management, fondness…). Furthermore, a comparison between the scores of the over-51s and the younger ones highlights the areas of strength of older partners. These different factors will be discussed.
