Since the beginning, women professionals’ roles and responsibilities in different capacities have been quite phenomenal. The present study highlights the contributions published in the Journal of Documentation for the period 2015-2019. It attempts to study the variations existing in research output from a gender perspective and a brief review of women professionals’ journey and job-related aspects from traditional to contemporary times. The information is collected from the Journal of Documentation (JoD). The study focuses on the year-wise distribution of articles and authors, collaboration patterns among the gender, authorship pattern, geographical distribution, the annual growth rate of female contributors, and average productivity of male and female authors per article. The findings revealed that the annual growth rate of the female contributors was 28.6 in 2019. The male author’s average productivity per article is 1.23, and 1.12 is the female contributors’ average productivity per paper. The study is beneficial in understanding the women’s contributions in international journals, and it has also revealed that the publication gap is not huge. Still, it is minimal except in a few circumstances.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"140-147"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47645312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the lack of research on the accessibility of Iranian medical libraries’ websites, the aim of the present study is to evaluate the compliance of the central library websites of Iranian universities of medical sciences using the latest WCAG2.1 guideline. The research includes all the 51 homepages of the central libraries of Iranian medical universities. The accessibility evaluation of each homepage performed using “Webaccessibility” automated testing tool. The Kruskal–Wallis one-way analysis of variance was performed to explore the association of the compliance score of libraries’ websites among the three categories of medical universities. The findings of the present study revealed that none of the central library websites of the Iranian medical sciences universities are fully compliant with WCAG2.1, and the mean compliance score of accessibility was 77.26 ± 5.862 percent. The low accessibility of the library websites may result in making online information services and resources inaccessible and unusable to users who are disabled. Therefore, it is necessary for library managers and website designers to solve the accessibility problems and improve the accessibility of the websites to make them accessible for all users.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"102-107"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44856868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study investigates the information channels preferred by the students of Institutes imparting Diplomas in the Government sector in Odisha. The study adopts a questionnaire method to collect data on the use of print resources only for 3 weeks in January 2020 with the due permission of the faculty members of the institutions. While considering the optimum number of responses 400 sets of questionnaires have been distributed among the community of students out of which 351 reciprocated. The collected data has been analysed by using different statistical methods like simple percentage, mean, correlation coefficient, etc. The main objective of the paper is to find out the attributes of preference of print media over other formats, to compare the perceived values of print formats by the students of two branches i.e. civil engineering and mechanical engineering and to analyse the expectations of students from the library services. To establish the validity of the objectives, two hypotheses have been framed and tested. It is found that out of the four major formats of sources viz., print, electronic, audio, and audiovisual, the print resources have some unique advantages for which they are still preferred but the library needs to update its collections to meet the expectations of its users.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"148-156"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45202905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research in biotechnology and other allied areas were analysed in terms of their chronological growth, activity index, collaborations, preferred journals for publication, country collaborators, popular keywords and scholarly impact. Scientists from the six institutes published 6, 076 journal articles representing 73.65 per cent of nationally collaborated articles and 25.03 per cent of internationally collaborated articles. Of the DBT institutes, the National Institute of Immunology (NII) published the highest number of articles and the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) shared most patents. Publication frequency was the highest for Plos One journal and the countries with which scientists collaborated included the United States, Germany, United Kingdom and France in that order. The publishing outputs of DBT institutes suggest a need for greater international collaborative research in order to gain scientific competency and increase the quality of research outputs. Also this study may be helpful to government officials and policy makers in determining allocation of resources to boost the scholarly outputs of DBT institutes.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"157-165"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42508022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current study is a descriptive-analytical study using confirmatory factor analysis. The study population included students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. A randomised sampling method was used from the available population, including 140 participants selected as the study population, and the research instrument was a questionnaire constructed based on the Expectance Disconfirmation Theory (EDT) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The findings indicate that factors of the TAM, that is, perceived usefulness (PU) (=β0.64) and perceived ease of use (PEOU) (=β 0.42) have a positive and significant effect on student’s use of e-books. Other findings indicate that the suggested model is able to depict over 47 per cent of effective factors in using e-books by students. Thus, the combination of TAM and EDT models is appropriate for depicting students’ behavior in using e-book. The results of this study clearly identified the effective factors in student’s use of e-books, including PU, PEOU, confirmation, and user satisfaction. The results of current study can be beneficial for the implementation of e-books in libraries and educational settings.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"88-93"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41400468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In-text citation patterns have been used as the basis for citation analysis previously, but all the evidence has come from international journals. However, many countries have more local journals than international journals. This paper uses in-text citation analysis to examine local journals in Indonesia. The paper aims to determine the location-based citation pattern in the text and its effect on the articles’ and authors’ rankings. We collected articles from seven food science journals and then parsed these articles to detect the citations and their locations within the text. Pre-processing included normalizing section names, developing a database, and matching citation identities. The rankings were based on sections and then evaluated using the Spearman rank correlation in the final step. The results revealed that Indonesian journals did not exhibit the same patterns as international journals. There were differences in the section locations of the highest percentages of citations, the distributions of publication years, and the ranking methods. The correlations between sections indicated that the citations in the results and discussion section should be give the highest weight, followed by those in the method section, while the lowest weight should be assigned to citations in the introduction. These results need to be strengthened with further research using more extensive data and fields. Other findings, such as nonstandard and inconsistent citations, made developing an automatic citation detection system for local journals challenging.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"94-101"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41664655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was a descriptive survey involving 41 libraries from higher education institutions. Data was collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire. The findings revealed that the major challenge was the inability of librarians to effectively use all the modules in Koha because of a lack of skills. The modules that are mainly used are circulation and cataloguing modules. The other challenges identified were poor Internet connectivity, lack of technical support, and difficulties upgrading and backing up the Koha database.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"82-87"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47546423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These two approaches are highly contrasting in their epistemology and contrary to each other. A single composite indicator that reasonably senses both quality and quantity would be significant toward performance. This paper evaluates the potency of the combined metric for quality assessment of publications (QP) in India’s National Institutional Research Framework (NIRF) exercise in 2020. It also suggests a potential improvement in quality measurement to obtain the rankings more rationally with finer tunings.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42010262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
