It focuses on two biographical interactions and the influence the elder poet Moore played upon the younger poet Duncan: the first, her 1957 reading in San Francisco, and the second, her letter to Jack Spicer which yielded a poem from Duncan in response. Duncan’s first interaction with Moore came in 1957 when, as Assistant Director of the San Francisco State College Poetry Center (now San Francisco State University), he invited her to give a reading that he introduced. The other noteworthy exchange that Duncan had with Moore begins with a letter she had sent to Jack Spicer. By focusing on these archival exchanges, this essay considers Moore as one of Duncan’s modernist influences.","PeriodicalId":44702,"journal":{"name":"BULLETIN OF HISPANIC STUDIES","volume":"1 1","pages":"189-194"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147914571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pound’s <italic>séjour</italic>s in Spain and his ties to Spanish culture have been an unchartered field. While this volume does not exhaust this area of research, it opens new avenues of investigation into a still unknown territory in Pound studies. Without attempting to be comprehensive, these chapters present a clear picture of the extent of Pound’s engagement with Spanish letters and the impact he has had on Spanish-speaking writers. His varied relationship with Spanish literature adds another international touchstone of his oeuvre, as it generates new theoretical contexts in which Pound’s work continues to stir strong reactions. The book divides into two parts: Part One comprises eighteen critical, scholarly, and biographical essays on Pound’s intricate links with the Spanish world, his study of classical Spanish literature, the Spanish dimension in <italic>The Cantos</italic>, his Spanish connections among his contemporaries, and his impact on and legacy in contemporary Spanish literature. Part Two provides a READER that gathers for the first time in one place Pound’s original writings (postcards, letters, and essays) tied to Spain and Spanish writers, as well as his correspondence with and articles by José Vázquez Amaral, the first Spanish (or for that matter any) translator of <italic>The Cantos</italic> in its entirety. It also includes three testimonies by Spanish <italic>Novísimos</italic> poets, Antonio Colinas, Luis Alberto de Cuenca and Jaime Siles, written explicitly for this collection.","PeriodicalId":44702,"journal":{"name":"BULLETIN OF HISPANIC STUDIES","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147899216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It then discusses all of Ferrier’s fictional works set in Japan: <italic>Kizu, Tokyo : Petits Portraits de l’aube</italic> and <italic>Sympathie pour le fantôme</italic>, as well as his critical essays on Franco-Japanese creative and cultural relations, and shows how Ferrier’s knowledge and experience of Japan – of modern, hybrid Japan as well as the more traditional Japan – have had a profound effect both on his portraits of the country, and on his own aesthetics and writing style. The chapter also analyses Ferrier’s website, <italic>Tokyo-Time-Table</italic>, which is not just an ‘author’s website’ but a site dedicated to disseminating knowledge about Japanese culture to a Francophone Internet audience, a kind of mapping out of his relationship with Japan in the continually evolving space of the Internet.","PeriodicalId":44702,"journal":{"name":"BULLETIN OF HISPANIC STUDIES","volume":"1 1","pages":"17-50"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147919484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Criollo society showed lexical preferences as well as other processes that went on to shape Latin American Spanish. The aim of this study is to present textual evidence through a case study of the literary and historiographical work Historia del Huérfano (1621) written by a Spanish clergyman who was involved in Lima society at the time when he was writing. The text does not evince an author who was interested in the Indigenous peoples and their culture. The use of a comparative methodology with texts from different repositories has allowed us to find evidence of a vocabulary that can be defined as American due to the extent to which it is spread among different authors.","PeriodicalId":44702,"journal":{"name":"BULLETIN OF HISPANIC STUDIES","volume":"57 4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139344496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
